Titus Cleraticus, known commonly as Cleraticus, was a Roman statesman and military general who founded and led the Wolfcloak rebels faction in the Squirrel-Wolfcloak Civil War. Cleraticus was a staunch opponent of the short-lived Iroma regime, which he believed had been corrupted by the teachings of the Squirrel Cult. After the civil war ended, Cleraticus was mostly viewed as a hero by the people of 21st Century Rome, but several controversial acts that he committed during his time as the de facto leader of the rebellion cloud his reputation.

Early Life

Cleraticus's origins are unknown. It seems certain that Cleraticus received a good education at some point in his youth. The means by which he attained the fortune which later would enable him to organize the Wolfcloak rebellion are not clear.

Rise in Politics

Cleraticus participated as an ordinary infantryman in the early wars against the Squirrels, giving him a deep hatred of the cult's ideology. His rise to power began after the Kalends of February Coup. Cleraticus became an outspoken opponent of the new regime, he secretly began forming a faction aligned against Iroma, with the intent of purging the Squirrels and their supporters from Rome. He called his soldiers "Wolfcloaks" as a reference to the Linkvelites of the ancient Roman republic, as well as the Capitoline Wolf which nursed Romulus and Remus. Cleraticus also adopted the wolf as his personal emblem.

Leader of the rebellion

As tensions between Squirrels and Wolfcloaks exploded into open war, Cleraticus quickly become the de facto leader of the rebel faction. After gathering a massive army in Germania, Cleraticus marched on the city of Rome, which was occupied by hostile Papal forces. However, after a tense standoff, Cleraticus was able to neogiate the honorable surrender of the city's defenders, thus capturing Rome without firing a shot. For this feat, he took the title Salvator Imperii and converted to the obscure Cult of Blessed Concord. Afterwards, his rebels were able to launch a surprise attack on the Iroman fleet anchored in the Battle of the Bosphorous, crippling loyalist forces in the eastern Mediterranean. Cleraticus was on the verge of invading the loyalist-held Levant when the Iroman regime suddenly collapsed on February 27th, 2020, ending the war.

Postwar politics

After the war, Cleraticus retired to his estate in Armenia. His influence in Roman politics slowly waned after the war ended in a rebel victory. Cleraticus served as the RP Tribune in the reorganized Roman government, but he grew increasingly inactive and lethargic. He argued for a combined Roman army, but this proposal went nowhere. By the time of his death, he was largely irrelevant.

After his death, Cleraticus was commemorated by several nations in 21st Century Rome. The Library of Protos primeros erected statues of him and four of his closest brothers in arms in the central park of their capital. In Olivedrabia, a relief of Cleraticus was carved into the marble walls of the Mausoleum of Heroes and Emperors, which contains the tombs and stories of great men such as Segius III Gladius, Segius "the Enlightened" Gladius, and many more.

  • ANTI-SQUIRRELISM
Cleraticus considered the Squirrel cult as an abomination that threatened the existence of 21st Century Rome. Thus, he had no qualms about brutally eradicating supporters of the cult.

  • EXPANSIONISM

Personal Information

The hard essence of a military leader and unbendingly proper in the Roman sense, Cleraticus was generally considered to be honorable and stoic, an unwavering traditionalist, yet capable of mercy when he deemed appropriate. A deeply religious man, he refused to live in a manner he judged to be dishonorable. He was once a devout follower of the nuclear gods Extermanator and Explodinator, but converted to worshipping the goddess Concordia after his successful march on Rome.

"There is no point in dying for a cause you don't believe in, and no shame in accepting mercy."

“It is a sweet thing to die for my country.”

"Had he, Titus Cleraticus, been born under the flag of this Grand Sequence, I have no shred of doubt that he would have been crowned leader of this realm as soon as he placed his grip on a worthy blade and set his eyes to the future. What potential he held..." - Xenovox Baron Vladimir Harkonnen.
