The Royal Government of Tropicon is a colossal, efficient nation, ruled by König Otto with an iron fist, and remarkable for its vat-grown people, free-roaming dinosaurs, and state-planned economy. The hard-nosed, cynical, humorless population of 6.351 billion Tropiconians are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

The large, corrupt, moralistic, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Education, and Healthcare. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Ottograd. The average income tax rate is 80.7%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The all-consuming Tropiconian economy, worth 947 trillion Smekels a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is an enormous, deeply entrenched, quite specialized black market in Arms Manufacturing, Woodchip Exports, Uranium Mining, and Door-to-door Insurance Sales. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is an impressive 149,157 Smekels, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

The working classes live and die on the fields of the farming communes, top-shelf magazines feature risqué centrefold spreads of ladies' wrists, women who display their ankles are shunned by society, and organ donation is compulsory. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Tropicon's national animal is the Eve and its national religion is Religion of personality.
