The Reichswehr has existed in some capacity since the formation of the Austro-Germanic Union in the mid 1860s, with the unification of the Germanic states in eastern Usonea into one (at the time) nation state. It’s early history is both unremarkable and tumultuous at the same time, as it was suffering from the teething issues of the merging of over a dozen different national militaries and a fair amount of navies into a single military, as such it was having issues with both organization, but also coordination. Not only that, it was marked by both disjointed expansions and a fierce rivalry with 5 Kingdoms of Britannia, having the now brand new Kaiserliche Marine growing at an extreme rate thanks to this rivaly and the nascent emperor, Kaiser Karl I, being a proponent of his brand new nation asserting itself as a major power on the world stage. It participated in conflicts over the late 19th and early 20th century such as the Austro-Lechian War, the Edelmann Campaign, and the Anel Uprising. Victories in these chaos of early conflicts expanded the borders of the Union along with securing its position as a significant player in the politics of Eastern Usonea. However, the most significant event was the “Victory” in the Austro-British Naval Arms Race and Rivalry as a whole, with the Kaiserliche Marine proving, by the 1920s, to become the stronger force compared to the Royal Navy. With this, it cemented Austro-German dominance in Usonea, and as such allowing it to eclipse 5 Kingdoms of Britannia as the leading power in the region. As the 20th century continued, it continued to participate in further wars of expansion and subjugation, with it evolving, having a air brigade formed in the 1910s, and it furthering into the Lüftstreitkrafte by 1915, before becoming a fully independent branch in the late 1940s.
The Reichswehr consists of three main branches; the Kaiserliche Marine, a full blue water navy that consists of over 380 ships, which is paired with the Seelandetruppe, which is the specialized amphibious infantry contingents of the Reichswehr, not only functioning as light infantry but having its own mechanized force and air support. The next branch is the Deutsches Heer, the premier land warfare forces of the Austro-Germanic Union, which also consists of the venerated Panzerwaffe, the SOCOM and legendary Shadow Force, but also the Airborne Shock Troops. The final branch is the Luftwaffe, which is the highly advanced and sophisticated air branch of the Union, which operates one of the largest and most modern air fleets in the region, with a diverse portfolio to support it and the other branches whenever and wherever possible. It also has the infamous Fallschirmjägers, which are the elite paratroopers under the branch.
The Commander-In-Chief of the Reichswehr is the Emperor/Empress of the Austro-Germanic Union, which is currently the incumbent Kaiserin Victoria II, whom which all swear allegiance to.
