The hard-nosed, cynical, humorless population of 35.462 billion Geckocidians are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

The tiny, corrupt, moralistic, well-organized government is primarily concerned with Defense, although Industry, Education, and Healthcare are also considered important, while Environment and Welfare receive no funds. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Necropolis Spire. Income tax is unheard of.

The frighteningly efficient Geckocidan economy, worth an astonishing 23,309 trillion Gecko Eyes a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a large, well-organized, broadly diversified black market in Arms Manufacturing, Information Technology, Uranium Mining, and Retail. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is a breathtaking 657,296 Gecko Eyes, but there is a large disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 2,703,266 per year while the poor average 105,370, a ratio of 25.7 to 1.

The working classes live and die on the fields of the farming communes, the nation's streets have become a winter wonderland of salt and sand, global warming is heating up, and it turns out that trees grow on Gecko Eyes. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, despite the fact that it is difficult to make it through a day without breaking one of the country's many laws.
