The United Socialist States of Kalorra is a very large, socially progressive nation, remarkable for its complete lack of prisons. The hard-nosed, intelligent population of 170 million Vakirians have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Social Welfare, and Defence. The average income tax rate is 59%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Tourism industry, followed by Automobile Manufacturing and Book Publishing.

Every product goes through extensive safety-testing by the government, only fully-fledged members of MENSA are allowed to vote, a referendum must be held in order for any new law to be passed, and people can often be seen driving to work in war-surplus tanks. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Kalorra's national animal is the Gojura, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Wuyak.

Pallarvon was ranked #17 in the world today. This is better than their previous high of 18th in June, and well up from a disappointing August in which they fell to 21st.
