Canadian davsland wrote:No Greece should have their debt either cut, or totally erased. Germany ot their debt erased after the war int he 50's. Also, the Drachma could help boost the local economy and be a sustainable currency. Also, the only tax evaders are in the IMF (including the head of the organization) and the EU. They are the ones who are corrupt, along with their conservative collaborators in Greece ( Who were in government at the start of the recession). Greeks work harder and longer than anyone else in the EU. Maybe it is about time the rich, corporations, paid more in taxes while the poor and middle class pay less.

The drachma, in its current state, is worth less then the Euro, hence the likely blow-out in inflation should they need to convert back to the drachma very quickly. And while I agree that the ECB and IMF do need to use the case to implement drastic reforms in Euro handling to avoid a similar crisis, Greece isn't going to get off the hook without having to undergo reform of its own, exit or no.

Greek cronyism and proliferate government overspending has contributed to the matter and these will need to be dealt with by the Hellenic government - irrespective as to which party becomes predominant over the next several months (the PM has added that he'll resign if the at-vote referendum is lost). On top of this, some of the actions by the incumbent have veered between the politically questionable to the downright baffling and the resulting uncertainty has only made things worse still for all involved. For example, why call for a referendum on the crisis to be set five days AFTER the now-past June fiscal deadline? If the incumbent government had even the vaguest of clues as to what was going on (hell, it was going on while they were a sitting party!), why wait until less then a month until that major milestone to call for a snap referendum when they've had at least a few months before that to advocate for a vote?

Not to mention that during the time that Greece is going to go through its financial pains, who or what on earth can it turn to to help alleviate the financial burdens that are going to be sent hammering their way by the downturn? Because if they exit, the ECB is clearly out of the question and I doubt the IMF would be eager to help them out without some highly strict strings attached before pen touches paper.

Does there need to be reform in fiscal policy within the EU? Undoubtedly. Will there be financial pain from this mess both within and without Greece and the "eurozone"? You bet. Yet, do I believe that the Hellenic government - both the past members and whoever that may be within the next six months, should be utterly absolved for actions on their end that contributed to the crisis, ignore any of the lessons that may emerge from this and continue to repeat the mistakes of their predecessors? Oxi, I don't.

Party was fun! The cops came but and wagged a finger at us.. as they left we set off a big one and they came back and gave a very stern warning.. sucks fireworks are not legal in city limits but after tonight I can see why.. had A few close calls there.. Also 1 in 10 fireworks just explode unpredictably instead of as predicted to!

Was kinda fun setting one off after the cops left.. a nice middle finger to authority!

We still have our biggest explosives left though.. maybe for New years!

Speaking of fireworks...

Brother and sister were playing with sparklers last night. They got close to my bedroom window to try to get my attention. So I opened it up, reminded them that we don't have house insurance, and shut the window.

yay! I sleeped for 3 hours... *does not feel good*

oh a new issue!

After another movie season dominated by sequels, remakes and spin-offs, cinema boffs have come to your office begging for action.
The Debate

"What happened to the classics of days gone by?" rhetorically questions renowned film critic Robert Sherbert. "The Thembria SSRian movie industry used to be known for such masterpieces as 'The Modfather: Part One', 'A Clockwork Violet', and 'Once Upon A Time In The West Pacific', not the drivel they're putting out these days. If studios want to release films in Thembria SSR they should give us something original."

This is the position your government is preparing to adopt.

"I didn't become a director to make films like 'Rise Of The Planet Of The Snow Ducks Revisited'," gripes Mohammed Lee. "But it's all the studios will sanction. It's such an expensive business making movies, and given the risks it's no wonder we play it safe. Perhaps if the government were to underwrite our projects, I'd finally get a chance to finish 'Heaven's Door'."

"Haha!" chortles Stan Dovey, while watching 'Mad Max vs. Jar-Jar Binks 2: The Unrated Edition' on his smartphone. Shovelling another handful of popcorn into his mouth, he turns to interject, "Oh my god, this is the best part, guys. Will you keep quiet back there?"

YouTube is your friend. I'd link you but I'm taking a break at this restaurant on the highway in the course of a 1000km drive.

I forget exactly why, but that stuff's banned in parts of the eurozone. I think that might have something to do with some additive, though.

I tried youtube but gave up after the first video of loud noise and random flashes.. Also 1000KM? That is like 3 years!

That stuff is very acidic and could be the source of heartburn and gout. Human bodies need slight alkalinity to function. Acids attack teeth and bones and disrupts the natural repair process of cells. I wouldn't drink more than one can at one go.

So it makes you hyper and feel like your mouth is full of salty, dusty chips?
