As Feux has already said, you can have high taxes, high restrictions, and a massive economy. HOWEVER; you must keep a healthy portion of your economy in the "private sector". If you look at Feux's economy, you'll see that less than half of it is owned by the public sector.
That isn't true either, our Private Sector is small compared to our Public Sector, and it was far smaller before.
Well, as you can see with my nation, our Private Sector is non-existence and my economy goes up and down a lot. So having Private Sector could stable it out, but having no private sector, you can still have a great economy.
