Woohoo, 3rd for lowest unemployment rates.
[quote=lymonya;15411303]How was everyone's thanksgiving? We had our Thanksgiving last month because we're CANADIANS!
We're definitely a big, old region full of peaceful stuff though. Like, if you started a debate here, I'll bet you it'd keep civil.
IDK, setting up Christmas for or something since the start of -ber months or something.
It's kinda weird in here (Romania); We seem to have snagged all kinds of commercial holidays.
Take for instance Valentines Day, we have fullyembrace the concept of paying ridiculous amounts for plushies and other kind of lovey-dovey disgusting things that end up in the garbage after a couple of days. This, despite thenfact that we did have our own local version of Lovers Day, but sadly it did not involve buying stuff.
Same goes for Haloween, it was mainly brought here by multinational companies that wanted snazzy office parties, although Media had something to do with it, as usual.
Christmas and new year are also prime examples of consumerism, with supermarkets starting to stock up on overpriced made in china decorations sometimes around mid-september. November is usually considered a good time to start blasting jingle bells over the PA of any self-respecting enterprise.
Black friday, we got that aswell, although this great nation seems to have missed the point of it, in here prices get artificially inflated one week before, then you get amazing 3-9% sales prices that are in fact the old prices. And to really make sure anyone gets to enjoy the new flatscreen tv mindwashing device, Black Friday is extended to the whole month of november.
After this, it's already time to advertise the Easter sales, that obviously are not as stupendous as Black Friday, getting only like top 5% discos, and thus serving to artificially inflate prices.
Wildly enough we also sort-of celebrate 4th of july, or at least acknowledge it as "America Day something-something like in that movie we all loved Independence Day".
Oh yeah, almost forgot, we also celebrate St Patrick day as the "Wear something green and get drunk" day, but that is totally understandable since getting drunk has been a long time tradition and favorite past-time in here. Along side our favorite Unofficial National Sport: beating your wife, that goes oh-so-well with the inebriation activities.
You took the bait.

And may we remember that we love this country for more than just one day per year, and act like it.
