Magic in the world of Astoria is broadly divided into two categories: elemental and non-elemental magic. There are four basic: Fire, Air, Water, and Earth, as well as two special types of elemental magic: Dark and Light. These, combined with the non-elemental magic, make up the magic system of Astoria. This system is present in every nation within the roleplay, however individual nations may create their magic systems as well with prior RP Moderation approval.

Elemental
Fire Allows the creation of fire magic, this is one of the more offensive-focused matchups with a variety of spells allowing for a variety of ways to burn your foes to a crisp.

Water Allows the creation of water magic, including the sub-types of healing magic and ice magic as well. Healing magic usage will be subject to RP Mod Approval

Air Allows the manipulation of the air and air currents, can be used to increase mobility especially. Flight is allowed for short distances and with a long period in between as it takes a great amount of mana to use.

Earth Allows the manipulation of the earth itself, also includes the sub-type of metal manipulation, though note the more earth you move the more mana you spend so it is one of the most intensive types. With Earth magicians commonly tiring out quickly.

Light light magic in Astoria serves as general defense magic against other types of magic as well as dark. Can be used to remove status debuffs as well as lighting up areas and for brief distractions of enemies. It is an all-around useful type of magic though not particularly strong in any one area.

Dark Highly unstable magic primarily focused on offense, requires a great deal of control and mana to use. Sacrifice can be utilized to use more powerful spells in addition to a greater mana requirement to use them

Non-Elemental
Teleportation: A small subset of mages can use teleportation magic. Said magic can be used on small groups of people but does not allow for the mass teleportation of people at once. To use it the caster must have a clear image in their mind of the location they are teleporting to as well as have been there themselves in person first before teleportation will be possible. Assuming both factors are true once the incantation has been stated after a short period the caster and potential people they are bringing along will be teleported to said location. Mages also have to wait a decent bit between casting teleportation spells as it takes a large amount of mana and magical energy to execute.

Summoning: A rarer type of magic allows the caster to summon beings from other realms to their current location, or to move themselves into those realms. This is highly dangerous and requires both a large amount of magic energy as well as a great deal of control. Failure to control the summoning process could lead to the summoner losing control of the summoned creature or creatures with potentially disastrous results. It is also worth noting that the summoner could potentially be banished or killed in the process of attempting to control the creatures they summon.
