Yea I heard. It makes me feel sad. Grub's one of the key players that defined defenderdom on NationStates. He's been a close comrade for many years and an old friend of Yggdrasil since the beginning. He wil be missed and remembered by history.
Is 10ki/TITO planning some kind of farewell party for him? I know 10ki and Grub are both low-key types but let us know if there's anything planned.

I'll organise a twenty one gun salute...with my main nation at least.
Today, I am 2nd in Yggdrasil and 287th in the world for Most Compassionate Citizens.

Well, I didn't know they are rare, but actually like them both. Not so long ago, I wanted the Corporate Bordello because my tiny government is a plutocratic tetrarchy, with each tetrach being the head of a major corporation. But now I like the Anarchy a lot more since, as you said correctly, it means more civil rights. My way to get it was reducing public expenditure in all areas (and taxes, of course), reducing law and order (a.k.a. pigs) and legalizing everything the issues allowed me to.
What kind of aristocracy rules your nation?
The Foreign Affairs Office for Yggdrasil wishes to congratulate Grub on 14 years of well earned achievements and accomplishments for their role in a wide-variety of topics which helped improve both the region and universe we all share.
Woonsocket has a large role to fill, and we most certainly look forward to a continued alliance between our regions.
Thank you, Grub.
It is an Aristocracy in the ancient meaning, of "the rule of the best", not in the sense of oligarchy, but in contrast with representative democracy. Anyway, i sometimes imagine it becoming heavily influenced by a few dynasties that control advanced technologies, own mega corporations, and have transhuman bloodlines.
In my aristocracy, people have three types of citizenship: Subjects, Citizens and Nobility.
Subjects have almost all rights of Citizens, but only Citizens may vote. People can become Citizens by: achieving higher education; serving in the civil service or the military; working in any institution of education or research; being part of the richest 10% of a province or vassal kingdom; being part of the richest 3% of foreign countries; or being relative of 1º degree of a noble.
The Nobility, in their turn, are the only ones who may run for elections. People may become Nobles by achieving the top 1% grades in Imperial Examinations; serving in the civil service for 35 years, or 20 years in the case of educators; joining Aristocratic, Military, Philosophical or Merchant Orders (receiving medals of merit); being directly appointed as noble by the Emperor, an Exarch or Despot; inheriting the position as head of a House of the High Nobility (Royalty, Patricians, Dukes, etc); achieving top positions in the meritocratic Executive or Judiciary branches; or being relative of 3º, 2º or 1º degree of a member of government, or of a head of House of the High Nobility, according to their rank.
There is also a great emphasis on strong institutions and checks-and-balances, with the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary branches of government very independent of each other, but with prerogatives of interacting with each other.
The people may also organize themselves into Guilds to push their interests by themselves or by political influence, and may help to coordinate with the government to implement public policies of their interests.
When religions achieve a certain notoriety, they are obliged to organize and hierarchize themselves, to enforce discipline among their own priesthood and establish official relations with the Empire.
There are Provincial Councils of the most illustrious minds of civil institutions and academic knowledge, of areas like all the major industries, culture and media, which may oversee funds going to those areas, as well as opine on legislation related to them and propose their own laws.
The people may spontaneously form their own legislative assemblies (including subjects), and enact their own policies with the resources that they gather voluntarily, as long as they follow the Constitutional Charter. And some municipalities have systems where neighborhoods may elect Chiefs, which may voluntarily gather resources to improve their communities, and also help to oversee and denounce irregular public spending or abusive public servants. Also, anyone may appeal to the judiciary to sue another civilian, or the government, even for infractions not yet legislated or without judicial precedent, with basis on their Constitutional rights which may were being transgressed, but with the maximum penalty of compensatory fines or prison of at most 5 years.

26th most compassionate reporting in,
A title is just that a title,
I do not agree with the promotion of apathy or superiority in a government, a society should be based on the need for all and how it carries it's less fortunate/common man not a select few, I spit in the face of aristocrats, we should educate and reform and help others to achieve their best not subjugate or separate rights and freedoms, because it's a slippery slope from there in corruption, transparency in all things.

True, but the objective is still to become Post-human. As far as the singularity, no. No we have decidedly not hit the singularity. Nope. Not at all...
Death, disease, mental illnesses, basic fleshy frailty... Most of those we got rid of with the cloning... Limits on mental acuity and physical capabilities... They don't have integrated weapons and such... You know. Typical mushy mortal failings.

Well, if you excuse me, i may say that i too agree with you that the ultimate concern of a government should be the general good of society, which we govern by their consent. But about the way to achieve that general good, if it is that the point in which we disagree, i would like to say that greatest thing that makes me support an aristocracy over a democracy, is that i value reason over public opinion.
I believe that there are occasions where choices need to be made, between paths equally good or equally bad, and in which the political opinion of the populace should make the decision, or at least be merely moderated by the government. But i also believe that in other issues it is not a question of the opinion of the majority, but of what is justice itself and what is the only correct choice to be taken. If i could choose one reason among those that i have to dislike democracy, it is that democracy often fails to take the side of that justice, when the opinion of the passionate majority swallow the lives of the rational minorities.
Nevertheless, i do not ignore the merits of democracy, in that at least they are formidable to promote peace and stability, and with that the prosperity which allows individuals to grow and overcome their ignorance and of their compatriots, with the due time. Nevertheless, i also do not ignore the flaws of democracy, nor flinch in front of the possibility of something new, not distinct by popularity (as is in a democracy), nor by class (despite what some may claim), but distinct by enlightenment. After all, "the rule of the best", if true, will be "the rule of the best, for the good of all".
