1922 - The Prisoner in the Vatican
Not all is well for the Bishop of Rome. The Pope remains a self-imposed prisoner in the Vatican, refusing to leave the Apostolic Palace and rejecting any authority Italy claims to have over Rome. The "Roman Question", while not being a major problem, it is nonetheless a concern on the world stage. The papacy's adversarial relationship with Italy (Paleocacher), while having been improved a little bit with Benedict's more conciliatory attitudes, is still icy and it would merely take one wrong move from either side to cause a massive diplomatic mess.
Benedict himself is unwell, he had developed pneumonia earlier in the year and has become worse over time. Benedict's personal physician claims it is a "Miracle that his Holiness is still breathing" and it seems the entire world knows the Holy Father may be leaving this Earth soon.

Bulgaria in 1922
The Tsardom of Bulgaria has endured great humiliation at the end of the great war, with the loss of eastern Thrace to Greece and southern Dobruja to Romania. Bulgaria has also been subject to a treaty similar to the treaty of Versailles preventing it from importing or producing weapons, this has left Bulgaria surrounded by adversaries, fearful of what could happen if Bulgaria were to reawake and bring about a fifth Balkan war. For now, the Tsardom stands united under Tsar Boris III, but as nationalist elements start to pop up all over the nation, how long will that unity last?
