The Reliance on Others

Televisions all across Ruzalka were on and on the same channel. Every news outlet had reported that President White was going to give one of the most important speeches of his career, and possibly one of the most in modern Ruzalkan history.

As aides ran across the office, applying makeup for the cameras, and crews making sure the cameras were fully functioning, crews began to step behind the cameras.

"We're on in 5, 4, 3 ,2" the cameraman suddenly signalled 1 and then began gesturing for the White to speak.

"My fellow Ruzalkans. Over the past 4 year our country has seen growth levels beyond expectancy. This shows how my tenure will impact Ruzalkans as we begin providing people with real jobs, for real money. Our war against communism has seen a reduction in subversive activities all across the country as those decadent elements of society are removed. Those who threaten our way of life will not be tolerated.

However, the matter which has brought me before you today, is a constitutional as well as moral one. Over the past 40 years, the Ruzalkan Parliament and Congress has taken some disastrous decisions. Entrusting our future to buffoons has led our country to ruin, with alliances with Khalite, the destruction of the Ruzalkan state and its institutions and leading us into a cold war with the Combine. Therefore with immediate effect, I am invoking the power of The Commissioner's Prerogative, and disbanding the Ruzalkan Parliament, and curbing the powers of the House of Representatives.

The powers taken away from these houses will be divided up between the Senate and the office of President, while a new constitution is to be arranged for 5 years time. The new constitution shall seek to establish a new system based upon the ideas of Separation of Powers, Checks and Balances, a free and fair judiciary as well as keeping the rights of Ruzalkan citizens safe. Upon that day, a new dawn will shine upon this land.

However, now comes the time to address the elephant in the room. For several years now, we have laid in a cold war with our most hated enemies, who seek to infringe upon our sovereign rights. Of course, I am talking about the Eastern Combine of Khaltie. With the fall of the Global Transhuman Front, and the death of their so-called immortal leader, they are weak. Ruzalka, has a moral duty, as the epitome of freedom and democracy, and the arch nemesis of communism, to act.

I, as your president, must know confront the storm in front of us. That storm, is war, against an enemy more dangerous than even that of The Ascendancy. It has endangered, not only Ruzalkans abroad, but Ruzalkans at home. We have always hoped for a peaceful solution, however the combines unreasonable demands to take control of our nations affairs, were too high. The Combine is blind to reason, and for that reason we must respond with force. The time for conversation has passed, no matter the consequences. But mark my words, the Combine will be destroyed. In short Ruzalka, we are at war.

This will be the most total war Ruzalka has ever fought, and more extreme than anything we have ever waged. Soldiers will die. Civilians may die, There will be pain. We will be confronted with the most horrific and corrupted aspects of humanity that has ever walked upon this planet. We are confronting evil itself. But we will triumph. It is not a war we will lose. And if the worse happens, remember that our nation has faced dark days, but we have never been defeated. We will always, be a free people. Thank you, and thank you to all who believe in and fight for freedom, and democracy."

Currently, we are debating whether to deploy our soldiers to assist in extermination of infected birds worldwide. DIRECTOR OF THE INTERIOR BANS PINEAPPLE PIZZA (Tues)
During a slow day in the Council, one unidentified Director suggested that they should get a pizza. However, they couldn’t decide which kind to get, and to end the debate between pineapple pizza and pepperoni pizza, the Director of the Interior forced any business that serves pineapple pizza to give up their business license. COUNTRY DIVIDED OVER PINEAPPLE PIZZA DEBATE (Wed)
Riot police and the military were sent in to create order in the Business District of Centraelis this past Wednesday, as rioters calling themselves “The Pineapple Knights” destroyed Anti-Pineapple Pizza Act-compliant businesses. So far, the Act’s death toll is ranging from 250-500, with at least 1000 injured, 300 of those critically injured. Unlicensed doctors are being drafted into the nation’s hospital. One of our reporters went to St. Bernard’s Hospital in Centraelis, the epicenter of the medical catastrophe taking the name of pineapple pizza. We interviewed a doctor calling himself “Doc xX_swagnemite_Xx”; his real name was unknown to the public record, the hospital’s systems, or to his patients. When we asked him about his medical training, he replied “I main Medic in the latest Call of Battlefield. I’ve revived more players than I can count”, he says, as he pours medicine into an IV bag without checking the label, patient information, or dosage recommendation. After seeing this, we asked him about his surgical practices. He said nothing, but motioned for us to watch him play the latest installment of the popular Surgeon Simulator video game. He lost the patient in the game, and while playing, lost several patients in real life. He then went to perform a heart transplant, and killed another man by throwing his vital organs out the window, saying that they aren’t necessary.
The Council remains divided 2-2 on the issue of pineapple pizza, stating that they are currently pointing guns at each other over the issue. Upon hearing this, the leader of the Assassin’s Guild told our reporters that business had reached an all time low. People were killing each other out on the streets, including heads of state. The public remains in chaos, but you can still trust the Sentinel to post all the news worth publication.
FORTRESS TO BE CONSTRUCTED OUTSIDE THE GOVERNANCE DISTRICT, PUBLIC UNREST REACHES DESTRUCTIVE LEVELS (Sat)
Other nations are urged to help Celoniae’s cause in crushing riots “By any means necessary, barring a nuclear strike.” The Directoral Congresses and their stewards have been working 24 hour days tearing down buildings near the Governance District of Centraelis, in a strong effort to build “Yuuge walls”, as the Economic Director put it. The media is still allowed in, but our camera was not- it looked too much like a weapon. Sentry turrets are placed outside the walls, and are set to shoot anything that moves. The local police forces have been killed to the last man, and whole neighborhoods have received fresh “red paint” after recent mob killings. Again, any and all assistance from anywhere is requested. As we are broadcasting, the mobs are trying to break down the door. We may not be able to report soon, as we will be fleeing to a nearby airship to house our operation. Once we are there, as always, you can trust the Sentinel to publish all news worth hearing.
NEW STEALTH BOMBER DEVELOPED (Sat)
The Celoniaen Aerospace Institute recently finished the Nesasio bomber, named for the scientific name of birds of prey. It is capable of carrying enough to level a small city, but not large enough to carry nuclear weapons. They are not in production, but are being rushed to the assembly lines to help the cause of the riot control. Again, foreign inspectors, manufacturers, and engineers are appreciated and will be paid handsomely.
TRIAL OF POLICE CHIEF PUT ON HOLD (Sun)
After a local police chief arrested the leader of the local thieves’ guild, he was put on trial. However, due to a remarkable lack of a courthouse for various reasons, he was simply convicted of disturbing the peace, a ruling that has somehow managed to create more civil unrest. It is currently an all out war on the streets from what we can see up here, as our reporters are too scared to descend. It would appear that 97% of the population is rioting, and the other 3% have fled to their apocalypse bunkers or to other countries. The Directoral Council has issued an official state of emergency and request of assistance to all other nations.

Making Work

Ossyrus. A bleak and harsh landscape, shrouded in clouds from its many mountains, with the majority of her peoples protected from the elements inside the hollowed ranges. Outwardly, the land appears to be dead, still scarred from its terrible nuclear past, but deep inside the mountains a nation exists that awaits any who dare set foot on the desolate soil.

Within Calassya, a tense silence filled Lady Viktoria Adler's office, as the white-haired woman stared intensely at the three men that nervously stood at attention.

"...Und? Was ist es? Warum bist du hier?" The queen inquired icily, her piercing gaze crossing between the three wary figures that shifted uneasily under her scrutiny. "...I would assume that you did not come to me well before your scheduled progress report just to note that progress is normal, so explain to me why you are here and not working on keeping production flowing."

The men looked at each other nervously, before the center man finally spoke up with a slight stutter. "...W-well... meine Königin, i-it seems that, after evaluating every vehicle within our country's inventory... uh... for some... for some bizarre reason, we don't..."

"...We don't what, herr Krohn?" The queen shifted, growing quite agitated at the slow response to her question.

"...i-it seems that Ossyrus does not have a fully-outfitted military force, ma'am." The man finally finished, ears laid back in fear, his nervous expression growing terrified over the brewing storm.

Silence reigned for what seemed to be an eternity, before the five-foot-nine and subtly built Lady Viktoria stood from her seat to eye the three officials with a cold anger. "...You must be quite mistaken. This military is fully equipped with the best weaponry possible within this region. Do you mean to tell me that there are individuals who are refusing to distribute equipment to the appropriate divisions?" Her cold voice was like a dagger as it sliced through the silence, piercing the men's souls and filling them with abject terror.

"N-nein! Das ist nicht das problem, it's... w-well--"

"Ossyrus has not developed the equipment, meine Königin." The young male to the right of the center figure interrupted quickly, to try to help his comrade out. This only had the queen's focus suddenly shift solely to him, which made him inwardly very uncomfortable, but only showed it outwardly with a little shifting of his feet.

"...Excuse me?" Lady Viktoria spat, her anger beginning to bubble to the surface as she stepped around her desk and walked up to the male. "I do not like jokes, herr Ulrich, and I do not like lies, and your statement appears to be both at once. Do not test me with this false statement."

"My statement, unfortunately, is not, meine Königin. There are several types of equipment that are conspicuously absent from any log or record of production or maintenance within the past several decades." This earns an emotionless stare from the queen.

"...Fortsetzen."

"...Ossyrus conspicuously has a lack of self-propelled guns, namely artillery guns and howitzers. We also have a conspicuous absence of engineering vehicles and armored personnel carriers. All of these roles are all currently being filled by the Rhinos."

"And why do we need these vehicles if we can perform these tasks with the vehicles we currently have?"

"Meine Königin, the Rhinos are only managing marginal amounts of success in these roles; the Rhino cannot fulfill a full-time self-propelled gun role as it is needed on the frontline as a breakthrough tank, the vehicle's engineering uses are extremely limited even though there is one single variant that has the turrets removed and replaced with a crane for recovery vehicle usage, and the vehicle's personnel-carrying load is also limited. It is a case of trying to do too much at once." The man explained stiffly, looking straight ahead at the wall, trying to avoid eye contact with Lady Viktoria... only to find his jaw gripped firmly by her hand, twisting his head towards her to force him to look her in the eyes.

"...Du bist frech. Very bold. Admirably so. To openly speak in a modicum of detail of the shortcomings of your country's greatest weapons in front of your leader... Very, very bold. You, herr Ulrich, have my undivided attention." She commented warmly (terrifying the poor twenty-something man for the compliments) before glaring daggers at the two older men. "...Which means that your services are no longer needed at this time. Leave." Her tone bore no argument; both of the men not held in place by her vise-like grip immediately vacated the office, closing the door behind them. Her attention then turned back to the younger male. "...Now..." Her grip released, letting the male recoil slightly and rub his sore jaw. "...What is your solution, Maxwell Ulrich? Do you have a suggestion as to what solution can improve our capabilities?"

"W-well... I have a few..." Seconds turned into minutes, minutes turned into hours. At the start of the meeting, Maxwell Ulrich was the low-man-on-the-totem-pole for the Engel Panzerfabrik design team, yet by the end of the meeting he had become the well-funded head of development for the vehicles missing in the country's inventory, which several prototypes would soon be created and tested...

"Feudal Realm"
Aatelisia or "Aatelisia" for short,can be simply defined as a technological backwater,in which the Nobility own nearly all the land,with it's Citizens being simply defined as "Laborers" rather than an actual Population with different skills.The Nobility Hierarchy begins with lowly counts,to several dukes,to the Prince Himself.The Majority of Aatelisians have found Religion to fit into the little free time they have,making the Church have a Large amount of power over the locals.The Military is-in it of itself-a noble Hierarchy,With the Rich always seeming to get higher positions than the lowly "peasants".

The Nation itself relies a large amount on Agriculture as exports.While the Nation is extremely undeveloped,it has helped it from plagues,disease,and general large scale war.The Lack of Crime is surprising for it's bad Economy,Attributed mostly due to it's Militarized Police (U.S levels of Police Militarization).Health wise,the majority of population is able to die of old age,yet Acts of God make 11% of the total causes of Death.The lack of large scale cities and roads,has also caused many to get lost in the massive forests,leading to their deaths.

Geography
The Geography of Aatelisia is dotted with large amounts of Tundras,Forests,Hills,and a large Mountain Range.The Nation is based farther in the North than most Foreigners would be comfortable with (Thinks Siberia or Northern Canada).Their are Large Foresting Companies dotted around as the second largest export to other nations.Majority of Communities are found as Towns or Large Villages,with a culture and dialect differing quite massive,as the Towns are far enough apart that travel is exclusive to the richer (specifically those who can Actually afford a car,the majority of travel is on bike or horseback).A large portion of Wild animals are Forest Reindeer,who travel in large packs.The Pollution in the area is nearly nonexistent,as Only a portion of the economy-all state or government run-has any actual industry involved.

History
The History of Aatelisia is shrouded in mystery.Writing hadn't been introduced to it's Area while other nations were experiencing the Iron Age.And when the Iron Age had made it To Aatelisia, Other nations were far into the use of Gunpowder and Renaissance at that point.Historians have discovered large amounts of old Artifacts within the Ice of the Region,leading all the way back to the first days of Man.The Nation had avoided War for large chunks of time,as any real nation didn't see any value on conquering an Area of Ice,Tundra,and Mountains.Instead,local Warlords carved out the land,establishing their power through war and raiding of other Warlords.

The Age of the First Prince
During a time of Imperialism,Finally nations began moving into the nations borders.The Warlords saw the new threat to their power,and decided to engage the colonizers.At this time,the Armies of Aatelisia were completely fractured,with No real higher command.The Weaponry they had could be described as lacking.All they had were Old Muskets they have bought off traders,with many soldiers still invested in the good ole melee fighting of a Medieval society.The Armies of the Warlords were completely shattered,as they were easily cut down by the far more accurate rifles of rank and file.These Colonizers all came from Tasavalta, a wealthy Merchant republic (and the 12th State to be added to Aatelisia).

The Warlords,not being stupid,decided that they need a leader who could lead them to victory.They looked to Johtaja Soturi,The leader of the Largest Warlord nation of them all,for guidance.He was Intelligent,Strong,Quick,and knew how to run the Economy and Military.The Warlords had no intention of keeping the alliance together,yet Johtaja had plans to expand his power. Johataja Immediately began importing advanced Rifles and Training the Soldiers how to pull a trigger.

The Nation of Aatelisia was able to catch a break when they routed the Tasvalta army on the field,then marching onto their capital. Johataja had no plans of accepting peace with their attempted Colonizers,annexing the Region within only 3 years of his rule. Johataja's job now was simple:break apart his threats from within.Every Warlord submitted to recognizing Johataja's power over them,or were conquered. Johataja made sure his nation would stay together after his death,by making sure his son would take over the mantle after his death.The Monarchy still reigns under his family.

The History of Now
While Aatelisia still runs under a Monarchy,they have learned from the mistakes of the past.Their military is equipped with the most modern weapons money can by,while some farmers still use plows and scythes to gather crops.The lower Nobility lack any real power to Threaten the Prince's reign,with the Military or church having any real influence over the Prince.Rebellions for freedom against nobility have been crushed with an iron fist,with expert precision.Leaders are assassinated,large groups are bombed into oblivion,and those involved executed.The Future of the nation is Shaky,as many don't know if it's time for Technological Enlightenment,or for the nation to fall into Anarchy.

Inspirations for the Nation
The Nation is based on Third World countries that suffer from Economic and Technological Problems.The Politics are based on that of Dictatorships of today,and Absolute Monarchies of Old.It's History is based on that of Medieval Europe and When Africa was being Colonized from European Nations.Culturally,The Nation is based on Finnish and Siberian Cultures.

Signing of the Treaty

Location: Saint Petroburg

"Today the Grand Imperial Prince of Outer asul ame will land in Soviet Petroburg to meet the Emperor and Chancellor Warlurien. Rumor has it that the Grand Imperial Prince Blakye Zhizar and Emperor Martinus Trødhæm have been talking about signing a treaty between the nations for more cooperation and security. In a matter of hours the Grand Imperial Prince will land and the long waiting will be over." Said a news-reporter broadcasting across all Soviet Petroburg.

Soviet Petroburg and Outer asul ame are two nations bordering each other on an island in east Lerodas which have been named "Annulia" by the governments of the two nations. After the two nations made contact with each other it became clear that both nations wanted to work with each other and a possible union between the two. After weeks of discussing and working today Grand Imperial Prince Blakye Zhizar lands in Saint Petroburg to sign the Treaty and to give the signal for more cooperation between the two nations.

"There he is, The Grand Imperial Prince Blakye Zhizar and with Xi Zyn Bon-Sulyn President of Foreign Affairs and Diplomatic Relations as he walks to the car waiting to take him to the Imperial Palace where the Treaty will be signed."

The Treaty contains agreements on Economic, Foreign, and Monetary policies. This ensures unity between the nations and a possible future federaion.

"The Grand Imperial Prince and the President of Foreign Affairs and Diplomatic Relations have arrived at the Imperial Palace to meet the Emperor and the Chancellor. In a matter of hours we will see a historic moment for both nations. Today we will join our brethren of Outer asul ame in a better future for our great nations."

After hours of waiting the Grand Imperial Prince and the Emperor walk outside together holding both a document in their hands. The Emperor steps forward and begins to talk:"Today we have finally signed The Treaty on Unity and Security. With this treaty we hope to spread justice, peace and democracy across Lerodas, our governments also hope that Lerodas will accept this Treaty and other nations may apply for membership if they desire so. But for now let us celebrate this moment!"

The crowd listening started to cheer and party, they all hope for a better future.

“We have received word that Imperial Grand Prince Blakye Zhizar and President of Foreign Affairs and Diplomatic Relations Xi Zyn Bon-Sulyn have just left the Imperial Palace in Soviet Petroburg after signing a groundbreaking treaty committing Outer Asul Ame to form a new monetary and economic union with our neighbor to the north. Reaction at home has been swift.”

“President Bon-Sulyn highlighted not only the economic benefits in his speech to reporters earlier today, but also the fact that the Union will give Outer Asul Ame a greater voice on the world stage and also make it more secure as the nation reenters global politics after decades of isolation.”

“Chief Tribune Zakk Bon-Dryk, who is also the Chairman of the Popular Democratic Movement, echoed President Bon-Sulyn’s remarks, emphasizing that the treaty will force Outer Asul Ame to ensure that it upholds the recent changes to the constitution expanding civil rights and government protections to all members of society. And Chancellor Jan Jursi of the Techno-Socialist Party also issued a statement expressing confidence and a high level of support for the initiative.”

“Not all members of the legislature were as pleased with the agreement, however. Rama Saxo, the President for Defense, Intelligence and Security refused to respond to our requests for comment, but the leader of her party, the Regionalist Libertarian Alliance (which is the third largest party by seat count in the College of Chancellors and second largest in the Grand Central Tribunal) didn’t hesitate to call it “a total and complete disaster” and “absolutely crushing for anyone who believes in freedom, limited government and regional autonomy” that is only beneficial for those who “ inanely want to have their lives micromanaged and souls slowly destroyed by faceless, foreign bureaucrats.”

“The strongest attack on the treaty, however, unsurprisingly came from hardline nationalist politician and known firebrand Frojik Tyraz, who voted against the agreement, and delivered this blistering speech on the floor of Chancery Hall today:

This treachery – nay, this treason – must not be allowed to stand!"

“Chancellor Tyraz’s remarks solicited a stern response from the Presidium of the College, which has placed them under review for possible censure. Tyraz is a member of the National Royalist Federation and the unofficial leader of that party’s arch-nationalist faction. We reached out to NRF leadership to see if they shared his views. Viscount Jesen Duryl, the President of the Treasury and Commerce and highest ranking member of the party, provided us with this statement:

Today is a day for optimism and celebration. I certainly understand that many citizens of Outer Asul Ame – including those who belong to the NRF – are concerned that entering into close relations with a foreign country could potentially affect their life in unpredictable ways. The Sovereign Priestess Rekeinserah of Jotenia would like to lay claim to the land which her nation occupies. This land is located on the land contained in the sectors of 1909, 1908, 1809, and 1808. Jotenia shares the island with the nations of Celoniae and Fiush, and shares its northern border with Fiush.
