Welcome. Because the region just opened on Wednesday, we're still trying to set up the government. I've appointed Mike the progressive the head of government until an election can be held later this month, but he currently doesn't have any endorsements.

Does anyone have any ideas for a permanent constitution? (A link to the provisional constitution is on the World Factbook Entry.)

Before a debate on euthanasia begins, let me just point out that this region is anti-abortion. On all other issues, including life issues, the region as a whole is neutral; though, individual nations, including members of the government, may hold and advocate positions on non-abortion issues.

Personally, I oppose euthanasia because I do not believe doctors should be in the business of killing people. I believe euthanasia is unethical and immoral. I do not think that most people who request euthanasia are in a clear state of mind; therefore, any request for death should be considered invalid.

(Let me just restate that you can be both pro-euthanasia and welcome in this region.)

A "right" to die makes little, or no sense. Saying that there is a right, but it is only applicable when you have been "checked over" is a contradiction of terms. Either you have a Natural Right, it is your right no matter what the circumstances, or you don't. There's no "I have a right to this... Sometimes." It simply is impossible.

That said, I support euthanasia. While I feel, strongly, that any action that is not coercive should be legal... I find that such an argument is not always the most compelling, which is why I usually see a utilitarian side to the position. If anyone, anywhere, wants to die; there's a certain wastefulness in using our resources on those individuals when there are those who are desperate to live, but may not because of the realities of life. Namely, we have infinite needs and finite resources. It makes little sense to tell a person that they're dying, that they cannot hurry up the process but that they can take ever more resources to titillate our sense of self-righteousness. 'Every life is equal' may sound good in a traffic jam, but when it comes down to the nitty-gritty; they're not. I do not, and probably will never, support an innate, macabre ideal in which I place far more value on my decisions over individuals' lives than I do for their own.

NSG is the land where those who appeal to emotions accuse others of the same deed. I've long given up on prolonged debating in NSG, even on economic or social policy.

Most of the forum is basically people screaming at each other.

Due to the early departure of Mike the progressive, Bizantinea, the region's only World Assembly member, has been appointed premier. I encourage all residents of Right to Life to join the World Assembly to endorse Bizantinea. (Endorsing the premier is mandatory.)

Because there is only one World Assembly member in the region, the election has been delayed until further notice. A constitutional convention will not be held until after a premiership election occurs. I'll try to recruit more nations to the region this week.
