Had a big geopolitics obsession, I wanted to find a country game where I could communicate with other people, I didn't need pay for it, I could have multiple nations and I could operate my nation as the way I wanted, not the way the game wanted me to do it.

Royal Alliance III , ahhh the good old days.

No, we shouldn't ask people to give their email. You are not paranoid, you are responsible.

Anonymity cannot be achieved via poll here, which platform would we use?
Preferably one where we would divulge nation name for purposes of counting, without having it assigned to its particular list of answers.

Ideally, a system where each IP address can only vote once. Because I think everything should be strictly anonymous. I will see what I can do with strawpoll, I think it uses IP adresses. We should send the link via telegram so as to avoid having other people voting. Then, we could ask nations who voted to say publicly that they voted so as to make sure that residents of the region actually voted.

So, here are my suggestions for the survey: age, country of origin, mother tongue, current situation (at school, university, at work, etc).
Do you have other ideas?

So, Strawpoll would work with IP adresses, but you can only have one question. We could set several different polls for each criteria though.

For anyone who has Epic Games, the entire Bioshock collection is currently free there.

Maybe the current residence(of course only the country), dream place for holiday, favourite food. These things came to my mind and I'd enjoy seeing how people would answer all of your and maybe my questions.

There is one option, get a disposable email (the 10 minute ones) and that way you could use a google doc

Im a bit confused on the mother tongue part. What exactly is it? Is it the language that is spoken predominantly in the nation you're born in? The language that you were predominantly exposed to in your formative years? What you studied in? Or is simply the language you're most fluent in?

I'm often amazed by how many games they just give away, I mean I don't have anything against free stuff but seeing AAA games given away for free is a bit weird. It's probably a way to try to compete with steam.

Haha yea, personally I use both. But my epic games library is far bigger thanks to all the free games they give out. I stopped pirating games once I started earning, but considering how weak my local currency is at the moment, i'm glad epic gives away new games cz I won't otherwise afford any game, and I don't want to revert to pirating

You're right, it's not that simple in some cases. I would say the language you're most fluent in, and in most cases it is the first language you learnt. If you grew up with several languages, then the language you're most fluent in.

A person could use a VPN to respond more than once, no? Other regions' nations could also vote and we wouldn't know if the nation isn't in LDA for counting. This is going to be hard...

Yeah, you can set it up to not show your email.

We suggest using Google Forms without disclosing email and using a different list on this platform in which the nations that answered will put themselves on it.
Then the ones responsible by the form will make the stats and publish it here.
We volunteer to work the statistics or audit the results.

I agree.

So are we doing the poll NSwide or just across the region?

Sheepiania wrote:So are we doing the poll NSwide or just across the region?

Across the region, for a start.
We did answer a GoogleForms awhile back, but got no results.
So, it's not supposed to be a new idea.

Ah. Thank you for the clarification on that; I was not sure. It will be interesting to see, but I do fear that the people who will respond to this will be the people on the RMB right now.

Indeed, the amount of answer that we will receive will undoubtedly reflect activity in LDA.

We were reading the rules and apparently:
"Privacy violation: Players on NationStates have a reasonable expectation that their privacy will be respected. It is not permitted to post or otherwise share another player's personally-identifying information (i.e. social media accounts, IP addresses, postal addresses, E-mail addresses, telephone numbers, or other real-world identifying information)."
Other real-world identifying information is vague, maybe we could get banned for this census. Is there a way to discuss this with a moderator?

Sheepiania

I can set up the census if you wish.

another player's personally-identifying information

Maybe it just means you cannot dox other people or force others to share their info. Half the regions here run discord servers, I cannot see how that is different than social media or emails.

I would just make this a series of polls and throw it on the in game poll maker. That way you have something to back yourself up, and will remove controversy.

In my opinion as long as they players willingly submit the information and are clearly informed that their information will be anonymously released you should be fine.

I have literally no idea HOW I got here cause I feel like if you don't specifically search for something of the sort, you may never even come across this site - but somehow I've found it looking for country controlling games and I've stayed because I liked the issues, how it changed your nation description regularly and how it helped me practise my English. I've CTE'd a zillion times over the years and only stuck around for the last 2-3 years after I've finally started interacting with the community.

Yeah, google forms works without e-mail address, incognito as can be.
