How old are you out of curiosity? Most players round here haven't been alive 20 years, let alone married 20 years.

You first. And there are 70 year olds playing this game. lol

I’m 42. I’m the young one. Better looking too.

“It's a common sight to see angry commuters with grenade launchers mounted on their vehicles“

Did nothing for my weaponization

I'm 39, so I guess that makes me the young one now!

Actually, it increased it slightly, but because your weaponisation is "just a little above average", it didn't register enough of a percentage change to show up on the report. Check your graphs, and you'll see the change.

I have another nation that is extremely primitive. I have ban guns numerous time and it has no military and scientific advancement is about the worst it can be. But my weaponization keeps going up. I ban guns it has almost no effect. Some weird issue result bumps it up. It is very weird. Top 2% in world with no guns. Then this nation gets no results for allowing any weapon.

I don’t understand the concept that because I have high weaponization allowing more ways to have weapons has no effect. It should have an effect regardless. People I know that have many guns don’t stop because they have many. They keep getting more. When there is a chance to get more they always do. I see you say it is high so the overall percentage might not be as high each time but it shouldn’t be almost nothing. When people with lots of weapons have a chance to get more they normally don’t just get one. They get many.

Yeah, there's a granularity issue with the simulation. It's just not that clever, and doesn't work out what is rational, and nor do we as editors decide those things.

Rather we decide which of the primary stats shift, then the game engine decides what those primary stats cause movement on.

The big thing violet is doing right now, betaing loads of simulation changes, is 95% form me having a big grumble about illogical game engine decisions in place at the time I first became an editor. Violet is busy all over the site, so stuff took a while to happen, but a lot of sim decisions are shifting around now.

Crime driving weaponisation is an odd one, but basically that's a thing. Rising crime rises weaponisation a little. For your other nation, I suspect that you're advancing some stat that drives weaponisation. No logic beyond that.

Hello friends in Eladen,

Forest's third annual Photo Contest is beginning and as has been the case in past years, submissions are open to anyone from our embassy regions. We'd love to see some submissions from y'all! :)

You can find more information here:

Forest Photo Contest 2017

.

Yes, it's that time of year (and a little bit more)! Whether you're still eating leftover turkey or just looking forward to being done with 2017 already, the third annual Forest Photo Contest is back to spice up the last month of the year!

Here's what you need to know:

🌲 This year we have more categories than ever before! Our four categories will be:

  • Trees (this category is permanent each year)

  • Weather

  • Sunrise / Sunset

  • Flowers in the Concrete - Nature in Unexpected Places

🌲 You may submit up to 12 photos total. You may choose how to divide those among the different categories, but please do not submit more than 12.

🌲 Please post your photos in the appropriate thread on our forums, located Linkhere.

🌲 The photos must be taken by you.

🌲 Anyone in Forest or in a region which has an embassy with Forest may submit photographs for the Contest.

🌲 Timing:

  • Submissions will be open from November 26th at 23:59 GMT (7pm EST) to December 23rd at 23:59 GMT.

  • Voting will begin on December 24th at 23:59 GMT and end December 31st at 23:59 GMT, so that we will select the winners in the first minutes of 2018!

🌲 Due to the larger numbers this year and the restraints of forum polls, voting will take place on a Google Form. Needless to say, please no puppeteering!

🌲 The photographers with the top three photographs in each category will have their photos acknowledged on our RMB and in our regional newspaper, the Forest News Leaf. A banner will also be created with a collage of the top photos to applaud the winners, and participants in the competition will be encouraged to add it as their nation's custom banner. Forest's flag will also be changed to the 1st place photos in each category for a week after the Contest.

Now it's time to head out and start photographing!

Good luck to everyone!

A note on the forums: Forest's longtime forum host, InvisionFree, is currently closing and transferring all their forums to Tapatalk. Forest's forum was unfortunately transferred early and so we'll be operating on this platform until we can resolve the problem and hopefully move to Zetaboards or a similar, more familiar and customisable software. Apologies to everyone for any features which may be inaccessible while we're temporarily on Tapatalk.

When did this become the "fun" region?

Soldiersend Archive wrote:I'm 39, so I guess that makes me the young one now!

Ok. I'm the old geezer here. I'm pushing 49. Shh! Don't tell the ladies since I look 38....

Ok, don't tell my girlfriend I said that!

Do you guys get paid Soldiersend Archive?

Wagria and Uan aa Boa

I haven't been logging on for a while guys and gals due to some RL issues and travel.

I think I must have appeared in the #1 world spot recently since I got a bunch of hate TGs.

Loving it!

I don't get paid for nationstates, no. I got offered a silly small amount of cash once and declined, as accepting material payment carries with it certain expectations that I'd rather avoid. Mostly it's nice just to make something for its own sake.

Why would this ever raise income equality? It makes no sense. If you can fire a worker at any time it would increase wealth gaps, not lower them.

Wealth Gaps decrease because economic freedom decreases.

Economic freedom decreases, because of the game engine and your starting position. See the FAQ in post 1 of this thread: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=424650

Broadly, your nation already had maximally free wage laws from the point of view of employers, so becoming signficantly freer in that did not change your bet economic freedom. However, it also simultaneously had a high level of economic freedom for workers. The relaxation of laws that protect the right to strike basically infringes on the economic freedom of workers, by a very small amount.

The net result is that sum economic freedom falls, and this wealth gaps decrease.

That's the technical situation, though actually it highlights a systemic flaw, which is that the rights of the little guy / the employee being suppressed should not really be correlating with wage gaps at all. I'll raise that with violet and the technical team, and see if I can get them to beta excluding employee freedoms from wealth gaps calculations.

Thank you. Because it could also be seen that allowing workers to strike impinges economic freedoms as well as allowing employers to fire employees for any reason big both are allowed any effect should be negated.

Besides 16% is pretty significant. If a stock market drop was that much it would cause nationwide panic.

Here is another one:

“After years of costly military build-up, the military now has a state of readiness capable of responding to all threats, both foreign and domestic. There is extensive debate among government officials, the military, and the average citizen over what, if anything, should be done with this powerful asset.

The Debate

“No one even thinks to look at us funny now,” says Field Marshall Lionel Mandrake as he taps a swagger stick against his hip. “So think about how they’d act when the military is in proper charge of the country? We’d say jump, and they’d jump, by jingo. Oh, and if you don’t agree with me, consider this a coup.”

Accept

“There’s no point in having a military this size when our closest adversary has a water pistol strapped to a scooter and calls it an armoured brigade,” says noted economist Gillian Huffington. “Besides, the military’s been getting uppity with all its funding anyway. Slash its budget, sell off its surplus, and put the money into tax relief and... of course... maintaining all those contractors. Sure, they won’t make tanks anymore but they can sure make plenty of commemorative plates with all that money!”

Accept

“The military is too powerful!” cries famous peacenik Elvis Gandhi, smelling of petrol and holding a Zippo in one hand. “All those tanks and bombs threaten us and the environment - we’re number one, and someone’s gonna try and take us down because of it! The people are tired of eating grass soup so the army can get another stealth ICBM launching flamethrower tank. Cut military funding and rebuild our schools, hospitals, welfare, and environment... or else!” Upon which he flips open the lid of the lighter threateningly.

Accept

Dismiss This Issue”

Why don’t I have the privatizing the military option. If there is any nation that should have it mine would be the one. I don’t understand why that option isn’t offered to me.

It's actually got two checks, that option. One for capitalism, and one for democracy.
