The Pen #2 - Election Drama

by Copyright infringements

Welcome to The Pen, CISB's regional newspaper!

ELECTION DRAMA IN CISB!
An ongoing election for President of CISB has caused a lot of drama between Samwych and Loustania. There have been reports of blackmail and overall bad attitude. It is unclear if this is why a prominent member of CISB, Umm al-sahra, has left the region. Both candidates have sent regionwide telegrams insulting one another. Some members have not voted in expression of their disdain for each candidate, most notably Khingan, with Copyright infringements and Kankerautisten following suit. Khingan believes this election is much like the American election between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

The recent exchange of power from Reti to Loustania is fueling some of Samwych's complaints and rebuttals against Loustania's decision to run. Meanwhile, Loustania's supporters argue that Samwych made it much harder for Loustania to handle the exchange of power.
If you haven't voted yet, make sure to do so by visiting CISB's offsite forums!

RECRUITMENT UNDER WAY
After declining numbers of nations in CISB, Loustania and Copyright infringements have kicked off a recruitment campaign with no successful results as of now. The recruitment campaign telegram goes as follows:

I'd like to extend a warm invite to join CISB, a relatively new region founded in September 2016. Right now we're having our flag voting & presidential elections, and there's a lot of drama, so don't miss your chance to get in the fun!
CISB stands for Capitalism Isn't So Bad, but you don't have to be capitalist to join us!
CISB is the premier legislative roleplay region, and there's always a proposal to discuss & vote on, and you can make your own as well!
We take part in semi-serious debates while deciding how to vote on something but we're also a laid-back community, and if you're here just to chat, that's absolutely fine! We have an active community, RL debates, and some spam games if you're interested in that sort of stuff.
Anyway, we wish you luck in this great world of NationStates!
Good luck on your journey,
CISB

A new recruitment telegram is also being written by Loustania to add on to the campaign.

INCREASED ACTIVITY WITHIN CISB
A discussion concerning the WA Delegate elections that may or may not take place in the future has taken up 100+ posts on the RMB. The discussion is being led by Copyright infringements and Loustania with input from Samwych, Kankerautisten, Ligrace and Missisquoi. The regional RMB is also nearing 100 pages worth of posts. The regional forum is also experiencing increased activity, with a record being broken for most users on at one time (33) on January 14 at 3:10pm.

FLAG DESIGN COMPETITION
There is an exciting flag competition going on meant to relieve citizens of the recent turmoil, organized by Copyright infringements. There are 18 submissions and 3 parts of voting, with the top 3 submissions from the first two parts going on to compete in the final. Submissions include those of Ligrace, Missisquoi, Copyright infringements, Khingan, Loustania, and Reti. Currently, Ligrace's submissions have taken an early lead, but there is still a lot of voting left to do. If you're a resident of CISB, us at The Pen encourage you to vote via the poll on the page. A Factbook with the flag submissions can be found here: page=dispatch/id=752956

The Pen's second edition!

Khingan and Samwych

This is what I personally think:

1) Founder- some neutral player (elected or otherwise)
2) President and Executive WA delegate.

This is why, an elected President should have executive authority in the region. If they were founder it would be too much- they can stop the WA delegate from being executive. Also, if the President is WA delegate they can make appointments as they wish, whilst being one nation (I'll use the example of some of the confusion we saw before, when Loustania was using Pascala to carry out executive duties). This way the supposedly neutral founder can always keep the WA delegate/ President in check, whilst allowing the President to have some executive authority.(I'm loving the civil discussion btw.)

I second this.

Copyright infringements wrote:This is what I'm thinking as well.

I think we need to add a WA Delegate amendment, maybe the Delegate is like on the Supreme Council or like a Chancellor.

Maybe we can have it so that the WA Delegate is the Chancellor and the President is well, the president.

I'm just quick editing it so there's also a flag section as well. I forgot about that :P

Maybe we can make a Youtube Channel for the CISB and send out links to videos.

The videos could be of debates, news, etc.

We could have like a 1920's Newsreel on the Channel.

Kankerautisten

Kankerautisten wishes to announces the  withdrawal of it's vote for president of CSIB

The only problem about relying on the WA delegate for anything is the fact it slightly hard to control. I mean at the end of the day it is impossible to force the people to endo the President. I still think that having the Pres and delegate as one is the best option though.

:(

Anything I can do to persuade you otherwise?...

Meh, personally I don't think that's needed right now. Maybe if we grow ;).

Mmmmm, not too liking of that, once again, too much centralized power.

Kankerautisten wrote:Kankerautisten wishes to announces the  withdrawal of it's vote for president of CSIB

Looks like the vote is tied.

Kankerautisten wrote:Kankerautisten wishes to announces the  withdrawal of it's vote for president of CSIB

I would like to point out, that with all due respect, one of the candidates is still going to be elected, regardless of the amount of people who disagree with the candidates.

It still means that the vote is tied.

Meh, it makes a good story for the newspaper.

Loustania wrote:Mmmmm, not too liking of that, once again, too much centralized power.

I don't think so... being elected President does not give you any additional power in NS... (it would be the same as just being executive WA delegate - just another title in effect.)

I've finished the recent edition of The Pen. I'll be tagging it onto the WFE and posting it on the forums shortly.

Of course. By the way can you see anything in the electoral act that provides for a draw?

Still not liking it, I would prefer that there would be a President and a Chancellor, the WA would be the Chancellor.

I completely understand that, it's just that i do not wish to support either candidate, i could vote for the candidate i agree with most but that's not really how i do things
