“That’s what I’ve been gathering...Lysithea, she’s alright, but where is she and where are we for that matter? Why aren’t we on Szel...Ferdinand, he didn’t..”
“The capital no longer exists,” the doctor said gravely. “Fortunately, the rest of the Republic showed up in time and drove off the Imperials but I’m afraid they won’t be gone long... As for the Chancellor, she's currently meeting with members of High Command on what our next strategy will be. That, and the sudden New sistonian ships...”
He leaned back in disbelief. The crazy bastard did it, he actually did it. “How many died in the attack?...Moff, is he dead? New Sistonian ships?” he said, bombarding the poor doctor with questions.
He paused for moment, “Is there anything I can do?...” He asked. He suddenly had an influx of ideas.
“I can’t tell you the exact total, though I can fortunately say many did make it out,” the doctor sighed. “As for the Imperials, they managed to escape though they took heavy losses. As for the Sistonians, couldn’t tell ya, none of my business.”
“For now, just rest. I will let the Chancellor know you’ve awakened.”
Godro should of known better than to expect this poor doctor to know such details. “Thank you.” Godro replied. He laid down and began to go into deep thought.
He looked up stunned. “My, my, I must say you got here rather quicker than I anticipated. It’s nice to see a familiar face.” He replied. “I’m alive thanks to you...Well Chancellor to what do I owe the honor of troubling you all the way here to check up on an ex Imperial Admiral.” He added.
“Yes I remember...I wish I couldn’t, but I’ll have to live with what I’ve done. Correct, I’m never going back..I’m ashamed to have ever been apart of it” He replied
“If that’s the case, what will you do now?” Lysithea asked. “I know this may not be the best time to ask but...whatever secrets you know about the Empire, they would be a great help for our cause.”
“I was thinking perhaps you could grant me Citizenships into the Republic...After all, I’ll already be a wanted dead man by the Order once they learn of me living. Maybe I can help serve against them?” He suggested. He took a minute to think before giving what he knew, “I can provide you with how many Fleets they have, where the system is, what to expect and so forth...”
“I-..I don’t have any current family. I lost most of them when I was young and was drafted into the Navy shortly after that.” He replied. “I do want to serve and bring an end to the tyranny if I can or die trying.”
He sat up a little, wincing in pain as he did. Once he regained himself, he gave her a slight smile. “What do I have to lose?” He said gently.
”Well, if I’m granted citizenship I’d like to join the Republic Navy if I can...I have plenty of experience and with me knowing the Imperialists ways will only give me an advantage.” He explained. He positioned himself up in the medical bed. ”Do you have a moment to chat or do you have to be running off?” he said motioning towards a chair for her to sit in.
“I guess it all really depends, to be frank I was shocked they left in the first place. Usually they just call in more Fleets.” He said. He took a moment to think. “I’d expect a counterattack, but if it hasn’t already happened than it may not be for some time. There’s a reason for it, but I wouldn’t know now.” He added
With the flames of war sizzling in the void above, the brave people who dedicate their life to protecting Bucksden are... spending their time playing card games simulating those very same flames of war. Hey, better than nothing!
A military base somewhere near Arcburn
"Faen, he's late. He's never late."
Sitting around the table in their corner of the common room, a group of soldiers were anxiously awaiting the return of their superior. The one who just cursed was Geir, a heavyset man who started up the group in the first place. Then there was Elof the goatman, who usually spoke in grunts and overexaggerated gestures, and Lea, who really just wanted to get away from her squad's ridiculous discussions about old videogames. Together they'd started doing game nights with their commanding officer Tore. One of the standard games was Shuttleshock, a card game that has caused many screams and fits of laughter in its time.
The basic gist of the game is that you purchase ships from a central shop, before raiding other player's fleets and stations in order to rack up as many points as possible. With all of the cards being based on real ships, one has to wonder how the company behind the game got the rights to all of them, but that's a secret.
"Knowing him, he's stuck in traffic," Lea comments. Elof snorts and nods.
"OH, I WAS! But not anymore!"
Tore suddenly bursts through the door near them, carrying a shopping bag.
The three soldiers lazily salute, before letting Tore settle down.
"Alright, guys, I took some of the supply money and bought us something real nice."
Concerned, Geir chimes in, "...is that allowed?"
"Who cares? It's only a few pons! And trust me, it's worth it," Tore retorts. Emptying the bag, he reveals what he's bought.
Lea is the first one to speak up. "Wait, isn't that the new expansion pack for Shuttleshock? That's out already?"
Elof grunts and shakes his head.
"As our fluffy friend here says, it ain't. But I know some people."
Geir sighs, "Of course you do. Now tell us how this pack works."
