Is the Swiss vet currently living in Austria or lies the problem with the fact that the woman is an Austrian citizen? i.e. is the Austrian government enforcing this law abroad?

The article didn't mention the couple's living arrangements but I think it concerns the fact his fiancee is an Austrian citizen. The government wont let her add the prefix to her name.

I was initially going to propose that when a government tries to enforce a law onto someone who is not precently in the country, is absurd. However she is still a citizen of the country of Austria and i.e. subject to its laws in this case. This dilemma reminds me of a proposition made in the Swedish parliament, that someone who took drugs (I think the question was regarding marijuana) abroad, they would be held liable for that action even though it was not taken on Swedish soil, nor a crime in the country where they were presiding.

It also reminds me of people from the UK who are prosecuted when they return home after taking their relatives to be euthanised in Switzerland.

My morals tells me that such prosecution is immoral and incorrect, therefore if the Austrian woman is presiding in Switzerland, regardless of her citizen status, I think she should be allowed to take her husbands full name.

I suppose if they feel strongly enough they could move to Germany where it's a non-issue.

The President of Austria has also been told his own name violates the law. His name has "van" in it but he claims it denotes origin of birth, not nobility.

That is so stupid I did not even tink about it. Van der Bellen. Von and Van has the same meaning. Just so happens that a lot of noble names have with origin of birth to do.

Do you think the President should drop the "Van" from his name?

If he is not a hypocrite I certainly think he should. And adding to it, it would make him closer to the general public.

As usual, it's one rule for the rich and powerful and another for the everyone else.

Hmmm.... It's a tough choice. Heck, I don't even use the death penalty all that much.

Yeah but it would certainly send a message that dissent wont be tolerated. But on the other hand, he is trying to be a benevolent monarch.

I'd say it would depend on the crime and the peoples reaction.

It's mostly for the sake of England anyway. Most unrest comes from there.

The Issue
Nuclear energy, the source of much of your growing nation’s electricity, has been generating radioactive waste as a by-product. As the shadows cast by the mounting piles of warning-emblazoned concrete casks grow ever longer, a concerned populace is looking to you for a more permanent solution.

“Once again, Science has the answer!” proclaims physics professor Natalia Riker, striking her best heroic pose and pointing symbolically to the distant horizon. “Vitrification! Ion exchange! Synroc! We can separate out the components of the waste, burn off the long-lived stuff in fast reactors, reallocate the plutonium to weapons manufacture, and leave only short-lived waste that lasts merely hundreds of years. This will mean that we will not run out of fuel, and the environment will be spared from contamination. Increased industrial expenses? Yes. Necessary security costs and extensive safety regulations? Yes, sure, whatever. But, awesome Super Science? Triple yes, yes, yes!”

The Talking Point
Nuclear physics is the most popular course at university.

And so once again we are ever closer to our dream of world conquest.

I am quite sure that i would be at least in top 5 in the region for human development score if my average life expectancy wasn't LITERALLY (you can check for yourself) 26.89 YEARs

Got an issue today in the UK about parents being outraged at finding out their kids' teacher is a former porn actress. How did this reach the King's desk?

Ouch. Even more proof of how brutal and inhospitable your nation is.

That's a good question. I guess they made enough noise or they snuck it in with the Royal Mail somehow.

Anyone up for some discussion? Dont really have a good question to start us off just looking for some positive intellectual interaction.

I mean it could be the reason we are so adaptable to it, since we can somewhat force our evolution as a race just to survive.
It also makes our progress in science ridiculous due to it being in the first 2% in the entire NS.
So there might be some relation to this phenomenon of our rapid rise to power.
And its a good way to remain in power for me as people die too quickly to rise up :p And it reminds me of the few days you were here, again sorry for the near death experience.

As for comrade Nuremgard perhaps your people wanted to help you with stress? I mean running/ruining a nation can be rather stressful so perhaps they wanted to give you something easy to deal with? Or they have no respect for your authority.
