National Dog Day
This holiday is always observed on August 26
National Dog Day has two goals: to honor dogs, and to rescue dogs from homelessness and abuse. It's an opportunity for us to recognize and appreciate the value and importance of dogs in our lives.
This day is intended to honor dogs for all that they do for us. In addition to giving love and companionship, dogs help us out in countless ways. They are watchdogs for our safety. They lead the blind. Dogs aid in search and rescue, and they seek out bombs and drugs.
The second goal of National Dog Day is to rescue dogs in need. On occasion, dogs need us to save them from homelessness and abuse. The goal of the National Dog Day foundation is to rescue 10,000 dogs a year. Lend a hand to help a dog in need today, or any day.
Origin of National Dog Day:
National Dog Day was created by the National Dog Day Foundation. Their motto is "Saving 10,000 Dogs - One Day at a Time".
President George W. Bush, a dog owner himself, sent a letter to the foundation in support of National Dog Day.

I've returned to Texas and with more cards than I used to have. Yesterday I pulled a Jakker and

National Just Because Day
On August 27, you won’t need a reason to celebrate. All you need is National Just Because Day. Why? Well, just because. If you want to make spaghetti for breakfast wearing last year’s Halloween costume, more power to you. If you want to climb a tree as an adult, take the risk. It’s a day to stop worrying about the whys.
Just Because Day has also become a great way to spread random acts of kindness. Send a thoughtful card to a friend, just because. Give your grandparents a call, just because. Pick up the trash from your neighbor’s yard, just because.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL JUST BECAUSE DAY
The original version of Just Because Day may be a movable holiday called Because Day that was first celebrated on the third Wednesday in May. It was invented in the late fifties or early sixties, by Joseph J. Goodwin of Los Gatos, California. He turned the gift of a transistor radio for his wife into their own family holiday. For the Goodwin’s, It wasn’t so much about a radio as it was about celebrating life, free afternoons, and family. And so, what began as a wholesome family holiday celebrating the beauty of spontaneity in life, grew into an annual celebration across the United States.
As we grow up and assimilate into the world, we tend to fall in line with always doing what is expected of us. And for many people, that might get a little boring. On this very special day, these unspoken rules society hath paved before us no longer apply. This day is your golden opportunity to do whatever it is your heart desires. This day is to encourage you to march at the beat of your own drum. Your chance to do something with no rhyme or reason. Whether you want to drink milk wearing a cow onesie, going on an impromptu road trip anywhere, or surprise a friend with flowers. This day is your chance to add a little spontaneity to your life. National Red Wine Day
It’s always a good time for red wine, especially on August 28, National Red Wine Day. Today, we throw out all those stuffy rules about how and when to drink this nectar from the gods. Instead, we grab our coolest glass and savor the taste of our favorite red wine.
Red wines including merlot, pinot noir, Bordeaux, cabernet sauvignon and blends like shiraz, don’t always have to rest at a temperature of between 65-70 degrees before you can enjoy a glass. In fact, there are some experts who say it’s perfectly acceptable to refrigerate red wines and drink them cold, especially during exceptionally hot weather.
So, ignore the wine snobs, make your choice and commit to drinking responsibly. Then, hoist your glass in a toast to National Red Wine Day.

Eat, drink and be merry
In honor of this holiday, some restaurants offer a special deal on, you guessed it, red wine! Instead of going for a single, heavy meal, consider a tapas crawl. Small plates are shareable and they won't make you drowsy (although red wine contains melatonin, so you might have to fight the urge to catch some z's.)
Make sangria with your friends
There are too many types of sangria for you to make by yourself. Instead invite your friends to bring over their own sangria recipes so you can taste and compare. Have everyone suggest a flavor, and settle on a recipe that combines the best of each idea.
Cook and unwind with a glass of wine
Make a meal using red wine. You don't have to look very hard to find recipes for wine-based apps, entrees, and desserts. We have a feeling that the pairings will be spot on.

National Lemon Juice Day
When life hands you lemons, make lemonade! And when life hands you a chance to celebrate National Lemon Juice Day on August 29, do it! This puckery fruit may be hard to taste all on its own, but it’s a versatile addition to many of your favorite drinks, dishes, and even wellness concoctions.

With just a little olive oil, lemon juice, capers, and a few other spices for good measure, this chicken and potatoes dish is sure to please. Put up a lemonade stand
Both kids and kids at heart can appreciate the fun of a lemonade stand. Don’t worry about going all out on the stand itself — pay attention to the product! Make the lemonade from scratch or use good ol’ Country Time for your patrons. Make sure you have enough cups and juice to go around. Frankenstein Day
Frankenstein Day takes place on the anniversary of the birth of Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein; or The Modern Prometheus, also simply known as Frankenstein. The day commemorates Shelley and her novel, which is seen as a paragon of Gothic horror and science fiction during the Romantic era. Shelley, along with her soon-to-be husband Percy Shelley, and other friends such as poet Lord Byron, decided to compete to see who could come up with the best horror story. This was where Frankenstein originated from. "Frankenstein" is the fusing of two words: "Franks" who were a Germanic tribe, and "stein" which means stone. There is a Frankenstein castle where an alchemist once lived, and it is possible this was an influence on the novel, but it is not mentioned in Shelley's journals. It is unclear if she ever visited the castle, although she did take a trip nearby it. In the novel, Victor Frankenstein reanimates human life, but he rejects his creature because of its hideous appearance, and it continues to haunt him throughout the story. The creature is never referred to as "Frankenstein" in the novel, but the word is now synonymous with the creature. Frankenstein was first published anonymously, in 1818, but Shelley's name appeared on the second edition, which was published in France in 1823.
How to Observe
The best way to celebrate the day is to curl up and read Shelley's classic novel. If you have already read the novel, there are other works of Mary Shelley that you could read. There are many adaptations of Frankenstein in film and television, including Frankenstein, starring Boris Karloff as the monster. This was followed by the sequel, Bride of Frankenstein. If you are looking for a more lighthearted way to celebrate that day, you could watch Mel Brooks' classic comedic adaptation, Young Frankenstein.
