I am keeping the Maximusian Dollar. End of story.

Neither candidate has supported a new universal currency yet. It isn't on Trive's though (and frankly, I doubt he would support a universal currency). With that said, we haven't actually seen Lauchenioria's platform.

I personally do not like the idea. I wouldn't mind an exchange rate though.

I believe that this was tried before. The IDU still uses it.
A good idea for the future would be an IDU stock exchange, though!

I mean like an optional RP sort of thing.

A universal currency would be a neat idea, in a RP sense. In actual RP though, Xiomera wouldn't buy into a universal currency because the Xiomerans are very touchy about their sovereignty. It could be fun to use as a roleplay device though.

A stock exchange woul certainly be cool. Zam and I talked about it a couple of months ago but our discussion never went anywhere.

A stock exchange would be a great idea. Especially for RPing purposes.

I have been in the IDU for around two years now, and I have absolutely loved being part of this region. I am running for WA Delegate because I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in the region so far, and to work towards ensuring that we can be even more successful in the future.

World Assembly
I would make sure I approved resolutions drafted by IDU members. I would make sure I took into account the votes and views of IDU members when deciding how to vote on WA resolutions. I would also encourage all region members interested in submitting resolutions to visit the drafting section on our forum, as we have so many distinguished WA resolution authors in the region.

Interregional Relations
I would like to ensure that events such as the Cheese Festival and Film Festival are advertised to other regions so we can achieve greater participation from our friends and allies. One of my priorities, if elected, would be to get a regional update drafted and sent out to our embassy regions. It is my hope that we can strengthen our ties with other regions.

Role Play
It has been a fantastic year in terms of regional role play, and I would like to ensure this continues by creating a guide to regional RP. It is my hope that this will encourage new members, especially those who have little or no RP experience to have the confidence to get involved. It is important to me that everyone has the opportunity to participate in regional RP.

I apologise for the delay, some real-life stuff interfered yesterday.

In my opinion, both candidates have great ideas! I especially like Trive’s suggestion of allowing the IDUSA to appoint ministers and Lauch’s idea of considering everyone’s opinions when voting on resolutions. Both policies would further democratic participation in the International Democratic Union. We’re lucky to have trustworthy members like Laeral, Trive 38, and Lauchenoiria who are willing to serve the community!

I'd love to see more polls utilized in the region and maybe a "nation of the month", just to get to know each nation in the region.

And is there a way to have both speeches by the candidates available somewhere because It might get lost in the RMB.

If they both get lost I will go in, find them, and copy/paste both into an RMB showing both candidate's platforms verbatim later in the week. In the mean time I would encourage individuals to vote if they feel they have given enough information to make a decision. If not, question the candidates until you are able to narrow it down to one individual.

Couldn't have said it better myself!

Best of luck to both candidates, and thank you to Laeral for stellar service over the past 18 months or so.

Also to remember all, regardless of the outcome of this election, there has to be Speaker elections too! I hope to see nations like United New England, Libertas Omnium Maximus, or Zamastan consider putting themselves forward.

I am not certain The IDU has quite enough active members to have a "nation of the month" (We might run out of nations after like... 8 months) but I would agree with you that polls are something severely underutilized here.

We could have a lot of fun with "favorite pizza" or "JK Rowling vs JRR Tolkien (my favorite author) vs CS Lewis vs HP Lovecraft vs Kurt Vonnegut vs Ernest Hemingway" for best writer of the 20th century. The point is we could have a lot of fun with them.

Sanctaria wrote:Best of luck to both candidates, and thank you to Laeral for stellar service over the past 18 months or so.

Indeed. I believe that many congratulations and honest thanks are in order for Laeral. I believe it was George Washington who mused (this is major paraphrasing) that one of the most important things a president [or leader] can do is gracefully relinquish his power. It is this mindset that allows the democratic system to work. I believe that Laeral exemplifies this concept, even agreeing to be the commissioner for the election that shall replace him.

I will be sad to see him leave office and would like to thank him for serving this region as delegate for nearly 2 years.

Trive 38, North cross, and United New England

Hoo-boy, that sounds like it will be quite a can of worms to open :)

As much as I appreciate the sentiment, life is way too busy for me to be involved heavily in the direct politics of the region - I just got back from my honeymoon! I will still be submitting my votes and participating in RP's and what not, but a leadership position may not be my strong suit.

I have to be honest, I'm going to have to think on this vote a bit, both candidates are good. Also, as Sanctaria mentioned, thank you to Laeral for his period in office, which was well run.

I can’t believe the dandelions actually won! That’s so great. Sorry for not being around to make something festive RP-wise; life’s busy. Won’t be around much for the foreseeable future, but I’ll keep the old nation alive at least.

I support Lauch for Delegate. Capable and awesome person.

Pertaining to the Election

As I said, if and when both or one candidate's platform post(s) migrated off the RMB front page I would do a recap of both. That time has come. Here is a recap of both candidate's platforms.

Trive 38's Platform

1. He has been in The IDU for a very very long time."Almost all of its existence" He says.

2. He would like to increase the number of apolitical RPs as he believes that this type of roleplaying is essential to increase new member's activity (As sports RPs are arguably the easiest and most user friendly) and to avoid having nothing but political RPs define the region.

3. He would create far more region-wide sports bodies. He would want to hold international team and club tournaments.

4. He would want to open up The IDU to interregional RP.

5. He would ease the restrictions on regional Embassies (via IDUSA).

6. He believes that it is in the IDUSA's rights to appoint our new Ministers.

Lauchenoiria's Platform

1. She would make sure to approve resolutions drafted by IDU Members

2. She would take into account the views of IDU members when deciding how to vote on WA resolutions.

3. She would encourage the use of or drafting rooms for resolution drafting.

4. She would open festivals up to other allied regions to achieve greater participation.

5. She would instate regional update (monthly/annually?) to make our ties with other regions stronger.

6. She would work to create a beginner's guide to Roleplaying.

7. She would encourage new members of the IDU to participate in RPs.

My Vote

I have ultimately decided to vote in favor of Lauchenoiria. With that said, both candidates were highly qualified and had ideas that could really make the IDU an even better region. I hope that Trive 38 will take his ideas and put them to good use too, even if it isn't as the Delegate.

Gnejs wrote:I can’t believe the dandelions actually won! That’s so great.

Yes, congrats again!

How will the voting take place? Will there be a poll? Or perhaps on the forums?

North cross wrote:How will the voting take place? Will there be a poll? Or perhaps on the forums?

Voting is taking place on the forum, but unfortunately as you are not an IDUSA member you cannot vote.

Lauchenoiria wrote:Voting is taking place on the forum, but unfortunately as you are not an IDUSA member you cannot vote.

Ha, I'm not? My bad...I thought I went through all the stages of applying for citizenship. Not a problem, probably for the best, as I'm such a new member.

Not being an IDUSA member yet, I can't vote either. That's probably just as well, since I am too new to really make an informed choice. I do like both platforms though.

North cross wrote:My bad...I thought I went through all the stages of applying for citizenship.

You did go through all stages. The IDUSA is the IDU's legislative body, it isn't a part of citizenship.
