The problem with the individual mandate is the enforcement. You're going to fine people for not buying something?!? Either the fines have to be so large and punitive that they're ruinous, or you're creating a new bureaucracy to manage the case-by-case details, or both!

Other nations that have such mandates for health insurance simply auto-enroll their citizens with insurance companies if they don't choose one themselves. They just start getting billed, and non-payment is handled like non-payment of any other commercial bill you get. I don't think such a mandate is the right moral decision, but if you're going to do it, do it right!

Agreed.

And the mandate is partially responsible for the stunning increases in rates. For another example, graph auto insurance rates for the 10 years before and after auto insurance became mandatory by state. The contrast in rates between states in that time where some states required auto insurance and some didn't is very eye opening.

What led you to believe their was anything Anarchist or Anti-Capitalist about this region?

Trump's first 100 days are in the books. How do you think he did?

New poll is up.

Hello! There may be some here but I wouldn't call this an AnCap region.

AnCap means Anarcho-capitalist, not anti-capitalist.

Greetings, residents of the Capitalist Libertarian Freedom Region. Don't be alarmed; I come bearing news, that's all.

Allow me to (re-)introduce myself: I'm Libertatem's recently-appointed Chancellor of State Condealism - I represent President Hyderbourg's administration. In the interest of interregional prosperity and fellowship, I thought I'd stop by, say hi, and let you know that we plan not only to bolster our communications with you and other allied regions, but to make ourselves available to address any concerns or discuss any multiregional endeavors you may have. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to reply to this comment, and/or send one or both of us a telegram. As for how our new foreign policies may affect your region in particular, I have the following information to share:

A couple of things come to mind: Your defiance against whiners and your willingness to debate are most admirable. If your administration is at all interested, I'm sure the populace of Libertatem would be more than willing to participate in a multiregional debating event of some sort - let's talk details sometime. And again, I'd like to hear any ideas or questions you may have about our new administration or how our two regions can collaborate on a joint venture, so please reply - I look forward to hearing from you.

A joint venture? Doing what?

Xyanth wrote:A joint venture? Doing what?

Anything, really - we could host an interregional debate, for example.

We're here and we are listening.

What does everyone think about the healthcare reform as it stands from the House.

Two words: "Good enough."

I just hope the Senate doesn't butcher it.

I hope the senate leaves it alone as well. But they won't.

I disagree with the "good enough" assessment. I would go with "good start" or "good, but not good enough."

The reason is that part about forcing health insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions still exists. This is the same thing as a business owner buying fire insurance the day after his business burns down and expecting the insurance company to cover that loss. One cannot cover their car the day after they total it.

However that is exactly what government is forcing health insurance companies to do. If little miss up and coming young adult finds herself in a family way in October, she can get health insurance at the same rate as everyone else by signing up during the open enrollment period in December. Her delivery, her new baby and any complications that arise will be covered.

Giving people access to insurance pool money that have not paid in is not insurance. It is confiscation.

Don't worry, the Senate will vote it down. My bet's on Susan Collins (R-ME) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) to vote it down, as usual, plus somebody else that will push it to 51-49

Bottom line - health care will continue to be a mess, dominated by government spending and endless regulations.

Now the Snowflakes™ are calling for a special prosecutor to investigate Comey's firing.

If we are going to start hiring special prosecutors Hillary and Obama both are going to have a rough couple of years.

It's amazing he lasted this long.

It's astounding how every Trump hater is convinced of a Russian connection. There isn't. If there were, it would have been found out long ago.

I'm confused.

Weren't we supposed to hate him?

Now he was good and his firing unjust?

Hello everybody!
