SEVENFOLD RITES
OF
ILLUMINATI
In 2005 Illuminati was first founded by our first Grand Chancellor, Roma Qochasiva. It fell in 2007 after the Triumverate Grand Chancellors. In 2008 It was revived a second time, by Grand Chancellor Solenoc, and cycled through a series of rises and collapses. Illuminati had both good leaders and bad, active leaders and inactive, some were legendary, some are all but forgotten. Illuminati has conquered many regions, and has been conquered several times. Its people have been displaced several times, nations have infiltrated it with the attempted goals of destroying it, drawing people away, or founding new places. In 2016 the fall of Illuminati took place. Spurred on by a purge, then civil war, then infiltration, then foreign invasion. 2016 was different, because by then its citizens had grown wary of the dynamics, and let it fall. By 2016 Illuminati was not destroyed by a single enemy, nor did it fall in a single day. Its decline came slowly through internal fracture, failed leadership, civil conflict, ideological division, exhaustion, and finally foreign occupation. For the next decade our region slowly deteriorated. Its institutions vanished. Its archives were scattered and lost. Its culture fragmented across exile, memory, and silence. Nations who were once proud were silenced, and the rest simply scattered and disappeared.
Many believed that Illuminati had died forever. Some believed it would eventually return. Others swore that if it ever returned they would attempt to destroy it again, while others simply ignored it from afar like a footnote in history. An entire decade passed with little action. Some felt bad for Illuminati, some felt it got what it deserved. Some swore to always rise again to destroy it, while others longed to see it return.
But Illuminati has not survived on NationStates forover two decades because it had a successful region. At the moment, we don't even have our home region. Illuminati has not survived on NationStates because its government remained intact... We have had dozens of constitutions, coups, purges, and reformations. Illuminati has not survived on NationStates because it was memorable. Many regions have great cultures and people. Rather Illuminati has persisted all this time because we simply chose to.
This region was founded not as a replacement or copy for the old Illuminati, but as its continuation. Illuminati will forever be our homeland whether we reside there or not. Here we have built a new foundation raised beyond the collapse of the former world. Not everything was preserved. Most histories are lost. Some traditions survive only in fragments. Some names are remembered only by a handful of nations still carrying the memory forward. Yet the central idea of Illuminati endured: that Illuminati must be built consciously, defended continuously, and carried across generations by those willing to preserve it. How do we reconcile, remember, and honor our past while looking to the future?
Standing at the center of Illuminati is the Monolith.
The Monolith is the enduring symbol of Illuminati. It represents continuity beyond governments, founders, victories, failures, occupations, and collapse. Every nation entering Illuminati now stands before the same Monolith with the same hope and awe as those who came before us. Just as the GuideStones have remained with us for decades, so too will the Monolith stand the test of time.
The Sevenfold Rites exist so that nations become more than temporary Citizens of Illuminati. They exist so nations may become part of the Illuminati story itself. The First Rites you took when you entered the region establish arrival, but the Sevenfold Rites establish belonging. Through them, nations are asked to reflect upon the meaning of Illuminati, contribute to its growth, both preserve and define its principles, strengthen its continuity, and determine what legacy they themselves wish to leave behind within the civilization.
These Rites are deeply tied to the Ten Illuminati GuideStones, the foundational principles carried forward from the earlier civilization into our era. The GuideStones represent the enduring philosophy upon which Illuminati continues to stand: continuity, service, strength, leadership, discipline, wisdom, ambition, secrecy, unity, and collective purpose. They were not abandoned with the fall of the old world. People in this game have fought wars over those GuideStones. The Sevenfold Rites help you understand why.
Completion of the Sevenfold Rites marks a nation as fully initiated into the deeper civic structure of Illuminati. Those who complete them are permanently recorded within these archives. To complete all seven earns you the title, Ascended Citizen.
How to Complete the Sevenfold Rites
1. All Rites are submitted on the Regional Message Board (RMB).
2. A Scribe will review your submission to insure it follows the rules as outlined here.
3. A Citizens who complete all seven of the Rites gain the title Enlightened.
4. Enlightened Citizens will have their name recorded in the Archives here and in the History Log.
5. Rites do not have to be completed in order but it is recommended to do so.

I. The Rite of Vigil
Purpose
The Rite of Vigil marks the formal arrival of a citizen into the legacy of Illuminati. In earlier generations, nations entered the old homeland of Illuminati beneath the weight of its history, joining Illuminati among the great powers on NationStates. The homeland was lost through internal fracture, civil war, failed leadership, and eventual foreign occupation. Yet even after the fall of the homeland in 2016, Illuminati, transformed from a blazing fire, into a flicker of light. After the Monolith was built, that light shines a little brighter.
This Rite exists so that the light of Illuminati may be carried forward to future generations.
To complete this rite, a nation must publicly introduce themselves before all of Illuminati. Who are you? Tell of your interests, your ambitions, your history, or of the path that lead you here. There is no required format for this and no expectation of perfection. You wish to carry the light of Illuminati forward, but first lets shine that light on you, an honored citizen of the region.
What is Expected
On the Regional Message Board, create a public introduction describing your nation, its gameplay history (if any) and your arrival within Illuminati.

hobbies or interests

or anything else you wish fellow citizens to know

1. Explain why you wish to perform the Sevenfold Rites
2. How you can carry the legacy of Illuminati into the future
3. How you can contribute to the region.

II. The Rite of Reflection
Purpose
The Rite of Reflection asks a nation to look beyond the surface of Illuminati and consider what the very idea of this region represents. At the center of Illuminati stands the Monolith, an enduring symbol carried forward from our era. It now survives as a symbol of the homeland, the fragmentation of the past, and the years of silence. it also reminds us to look forward, to build atop the ruins of the old something greater and stronger, and for the continuity of the region. The Monolith will be here long after you yet for all its importance, it also has no singular defined meaning.
Some nations see order within it. Others see ambition, truth, mystery, vigilance, permanence, pride, destiny, or warning. Some view it as a monument to the Illuminati civilization, that it can endure if enough nations chose to perserve it.
The Rite of Reflection exists because Illuminati was never built solely through laws, elections, or authority. It has always had a shared belief that something larger than any individual nation holds it together. Even after the Fall of 2016 when everything was lost, we are here today. How does the Monolith explain that? How do you?
To complete this Rite, a nation must reflect upon the Monolith at the center of Illuminati and explain what it represents to them personally. There is no official interpretation and no require philosophy. Every citizen of Illuminati sees the Monolith a little differently. This is because every nation has their own beliefs, experiences, values and ambitions. This Rite asks you to explain your interpretation. Some reflections may be philosophical. Others historical. Others symbolic or deeply personal. All are welcome and valid.
A sincere reflection, regardless of length carries greater value than grand performances without meaning. Collectively, these reflections represent another layer to the evolving memory and identity of Illuminati itself. You become the legacy you reflect.
What is Expected
Describe what the Monolith means to your nation personally. You may describe it philosophically, spiritually, politically, aesthetically, symbolically, historically, or emotionally.
Minimum Expectations:
1 layer of interpretation (philosophically, spiritually, emotionally, etc)
3 paragraph explanation
Exceptional Expectations:
A complete 5 or more paragraph essay.
Numerous layers of interpretation; (spiritually, symbolically, historically, etc)
Requirements
1. Reflection must be 3 paragraphs
2. Must be posted on the Regional Message Board
3. Notify a Scribe or Founder of your submission.
III. The Rite of Service
Purpose
The Rite of Service exists to ensure that the light of Illuminati never again fades into darkness. The old homeland of Illuminati was not destroyed in a single moment. Its decline came through years of internal fracture, civil conflict, failed leadership, exhaustion, and the gradual loss of continuity between generations of citizens. As fewer nations carried its traditions, culture, and institutions forward, the civilization weakened until the homeland itself was eventually occupied and lost.
Yet even after the fall, some nations refused to let the civilization disappear completely. The Rite of Service honors that responsibility.
No civilization survives through founders or leaders alone. It survives because ordinary citizens choose to preserve it, strengthen it, teach it, and carry it forward into the future. The Monolith may endure across generations, but it is the citizens of Illuminati who ensure its light is not forgotten.
To complete this Rite, a citizen must actively assist newer nations entering Illuminati and help guide at least one nation toward completion of the First Rites. This may include welcoming new arrivals, answering questions, explaining regional traditions, introducing the Sevenfold Rites, encouraging participation, or helping newer nations understand the culture and history of Illuminati itself.
The purpose of this Rite is not recruitment for numbers alone. It is the continuation of the civilization across generations. Every citizen who guides another nation into Illuminati strengthens the future of the region and helps ensure that the mistakes which led to the Fall of 2016 are not repeated.
Service is therefore considered one of the highest civic honors within Illuminati.
What is Expected
Actively assist newer nations entering Illuminati and help guide at least one nation toward completion of the First Rites.
This may include:
welcoming new nations
answering questions
explaining regional traditions
introducing the Monolith and GuideStones
helping nations join a PRISM Order
encouraging civic participation
mentoring nations through the First Rites
Minimum Expectations:
1. Meaningfully assist at least one newer nation.
2. Help guide at least one nation toward completion of the First Rites.
Exceptional Expectations:
1. Personally mentor multiple newer nations.
2. Help a newer nation complete the Sevenfold Rites.
3. Recruit and preserve long-term active citizens.
4. Strengthen regional activity through consistent civic participation.
Requirements:
1. Notify a Scribe or Founder and inform of which nation you helped.
IV. The Rite of GuideStones
Purpose
The Rite of Guidestones exists so that every citizen of Illuminati may consciously choose the principles upon which they stand.
The civilization of Illuminati was never built through power alone. Across generations, governments rose and fell, leaders changed, wars were fought, alliances collapsed, and eventually even the homeland itself was lost. Yet through every era, certain principles endured. These principles became known as the Ten Illuminati GuideStones the foundational civic philosophy carried forward from the older civilization into the new era.
The GuideStones are not temporary slogans or political declarations. They are enduring principles intended to guide civilization across generations. They speak of continuity, discipline, leadership, ambition, wisdom, secrecy, service, strength, unity, and collective purpose. Even after the Fall of 2016, the GuideStones survived because nations continued carrying them forward.
The Rite of Guidestones asks every nation a simple question: What principle defines you?
To complete this Rite, a citizen must choose the Illuminati GuideStone that resonates most strongly with their nation and explain why it reflects their beliefs, philosophy, ambitions, or worldview. Some nations may value service above all else. Others may stand upon strength, unity, discipline, secrecy, tradition, or victory. There is no universally correct answer. The purpose of the Rite is not conformity, but conviction.
What is Expected
Choose the Illuminati GuideStone that most strongly resonates with your nation and explain why it reflects your beliefs or philosophy.
Minimum Expectations:
1. Select one GuideStone.
2. Explain why it resonates with your nation.
3. Provide at least one paragraph of interpretation.
Exceptional Expectations:
1. Provide historical, philosophical, or symbolic interpretation.
2. Explain how the GuideStone influences your conduct within Illuminati.
3. Compare multiple GuideStones and explain why one stands above the others for your nation.
Requirements
1. Submission must be posted publicly on the Regional Message Board.
2. Notify a Scribe or Founder that you have completed this Rite for review.
V. The Rite of The Seals
Purpose
The Rite of Seals exists to preserve the truths civilizations choose not to forget. First Introduced by Grand Chancellor Zarvarza, the Seals of Truth have remained an important part of our regions identity and beliefs.
Throughout the history of Illuminati, generations of nations contributed declarations, warnings, philosophies, observations, and enduring ideas that became known as the Seals of Truth. Some were written during the height of the old civilization. Others emerged during conflict, collapse, exile, and rebuilding. Together, the Seals became fragments of preserved civilizational memory carried forward beyond the destruction of the homeland itself.
When the old Illuminati fell in 2016, much was lost. Archives disappeared. Institutions fractured. Histories vanished into silence. Yet many truths endured because citizens remembered them and chose to preserve them. After a decade of nations in diaspora, Illuminati has once again picked up the fragments to rebuild.
The Rite of Seals asks each nation to determine which truth they themselves believe is worthy of preservation.
To complete this Rite, a citizen must choose a Seal of Truth that resonates deeply with their nation and explain why it matters. Some nations may choose a Seal representing vigilance, strength, wisdom, unity, ambition, continuity, or sacrifice. Others may find meaning in warnings born from the collapse of the old civilization itself. Illuminati survive not only through victory, but through the truths they refuse to allow time to erase.
What is Expected
Choose a Seal of Truth and explain why it resonates with your nation and worldview.
Minimum Expectations:
1. Select one Seal of Truth.
2. Explain its meaning to your nation.
3. Provide at least 3 paragraphs of interpretation.
Exceptional Expectations:
1. Provide symbolic, historical, or philosophical interpretation.
2. Explain how the Seal relates to the Fall of Illuminati or its continuation.
3. Connect the Seal to your nations future ambitions or identity.
4. Chose or compare multiple Seals.
Requirements
1. Submission must be posted publicly on the Regional Message Board.
2. Notify a Scribe or Founder that you have completed this Rite for review.
II. The Rite of Continuity
Purpose
The Rite of Continuity exists so that every citizen of Illuminati contributes something lasting to the region itself. The Rite of Continuity represents the belief that civilizations endure only while their citizens continue adding to them. The Monolith may stand eternal, but the civilization surrounding it survives only through the works, ideas, creations, traditions, and institutions carried forward by its people.
To complete this Rite, a citizen must create, preserve, strengthen, or contribute something meaningful to Illuminati itself. There is no single path to completion. Everyone is different, has a different skillset, and a different idea of what this may mean.
Some nations may contribute through writing, philosophy, art, diplomacy, recruitment, archives, ceremonies, regional infrastructure, cultural projects, or historical preservation. Others may create guides, events, institutions, symbols, records, or civic works that strengthen the civilization for future generations.
The purpose of this Rite is not to judge your artwork or project. It is contribution, recognition of your hard work, and another layer to the legacy of this region.
The old Illuminati faded when too few continued building it. The Rite of Continuity exists to ensure that the new civilization never again falls into silence through neglect or stagnation. Every citizen who completes this Rite leaves a permanent mark upon the civilization itself.
What is Expected
Create, preserve, strengthen, or contribute something meaningful to Illuminati.
Examples may include:
creating regional lore, poems, or songs
writing essays or philosophy
designing symbols, flags, or artwork
creating dispatches or archives
helping preserve regional history
organizing events or ceremonies
strengthening recruitment by donating stamps
building civic or cultural projects
contributing institutions or ideas to the civilization
Minimum Expectations:
1. Create or contribute one meaningful work or service to Illuminati.
2. Explain its purpose and contribution to the civilization.
Exceptional Expectations:
1. Create a lasting institution, archive, or civic project.
2. Contribute major philosophical, historical, or cultural works.
3. Create projects that continue benefiting Illuminati long-term.
4. Inspire further participation from other citizens.
Requirements
1. Evidence of contribution must be provided.
2. Notify a Scribe or Founder that you have completed this Rite for review.
II. The Rite of Ascension
Purpose
To seek office within Illuminati is to declare that the region matters enough for you to help carry responsibility for its future. Leading in Illuminati is no small matter. You will be called to action, service, and expected to make decisions that may not be easy. Ultimately, the torch of light for Illuminati moves forward for you. You will be remembered, judged, compared to, and defined by generations long after you. This isnt simply running a campaign, it is a willingness to carry on the legacy of Illuminati.
To complete this Rite, a citizen must formally run for, seek, or accept any recognized civic position within Illuminati. The Rite is fulfilled through willingness to participate in the stewardship of the civilization itself. This may include Order leadership, regional offices, councils, ministries, cultural positions, diplomatic offices, or other recognized civic responsibilities.
The purpose of the Rite is not ambition for personal power alone. It is participation in the preservation of the civilization after its rebirth beyond the fall of the homeland. We will endure because you allow it to. Leadership is not granted because a nation desires authority. It is earned because our people need good leaders.
What is Expected
Participate in the leadership or stewardship structure of Illuminati by seeking or accepting a recognized civic role.
Minimum Expectations:
1. Run for, apply for, or accept a recognized position within Illuminati.
2. Publicly participate in the government process.
Exceptional Expectations:
1. Hold sustained leadership responsibilities.
2. Help strengthen regional institutions or activity.
3. Mentor future leaders within Illuminati.
4. Contribute to the long-term stability and continuity of the civilization.
Requirements
1. Evidence of candidacy, appointment, or civic participation must be provided.
2. Notify a Scribe or Founder that you have completed this Rite for review.
