Far in the west of the federation lies the sparsely-populated Deseret Free State (LinkDeseret English: 𐐔𐐯𐑅𐐨𐑉𐐯𐐻 𐐙𐑉𐐨 𐑅𐐻𐐩𐐻; North American Phonetic English: Desïrét́ Frï Sꞇë́t́). Deseret is one of the most religious provinces in the federation, with 73% of it's population claiming to be practitioners of some faith (Almost always Mormonism). The province's infamously strong religious leanings have frequently put it at odds with the federal government.

History

Reintroduction of the Deseret Alphabet

During the referendum on a potential English spelling reform, the Deseret alphabet was submitted as a potential system, but ultimately placed poorly in the final vote. However, largely as an act of defiance against the federal government, Deseret voted to implement a reformed version of the script in lieu of NUFÎ́ anyways. The system became widespread within Deseret, and by 2045 had surpassed traditional English in the province. The federal government attempted to discourage use of the script in favor of NUFÎ́; but, in a Supreme Court case titled "The Deseret Free State vs. the Congress of Soviets" it was decided that, because Deseret English was distinct from Traditional English, the script was protected under the Linguistic Preservation and Revival act of 2032. However, it was also decided that education in NUFÎ́ would be important for communication between the citizens of Deseret and the rest of the country, and so NUFÎ́ was added to the high-school curriculum.
