The Protectorate of Wake DPR is a very large, orderly nation, remarkable for its vat-grown people, soft-spoken computers, and irreverence towards religion. The hard-nosed, cynical, humorless population of 380 million Wake DPRians are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

The relatively small, corrupt, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defense, and Healthcare. The average income tax rate is 14.3%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The strong Wake DPRian economy, worth 23.9 trillion 4th Edition Trench Dollars a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a slick, highly efficient, fairly diversified black market in Door-to-door Insurance Sales, Woodchip Exports, Basket Weaving, and Arms Manufacturing. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Playground injuries are considered academic progress, the nation's girls answer "apple" when asked what makes pi, protesters against the government are hanged as a warning to others, and life-saving resuscitation is denied based on decades-old teenage diaries that declare "I want to die before I get old". Crime, especially youth-related, is well under control, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Wake DPR's national animal is the Black Spotted Tabby Cat, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation.
