Sörslúth - officially Deachdaire Poblachd de Sörslúth (Basic: Totalitarian Republic of Sörslúth) - is a fascist one-party totalitarian dictatorship, located on the east of the Romaxia continent, in the south-west of the Democratic Socialist Assembly, and bordered by Talamia to the west. According to article 1 of the constitution, Sörslúth is an "independent socialist State".

Until 1877, the state was known as Asghaid and was a federal republic governed according to democratic principles by elected presidents. On 29 October 1877, taking advantage of the population's discontent over a severe economic crisis, General A'Chiad Aírleth took power with a coup d'etat. Since then, the Aírleth dynasty has reigned supreme over the nation, reaching its fourth generation today.

Located on the edge of the Ghasi desert, its capital is Eigobair. The official language is Cànan, a modern constructed language, theorized towards the end of the nineteenth century by the then official government linguist Dùnadh Beul. In some remote parts of the state, some ancient linguistic stock spoken by indigenous peoples still resists today. The unofficial spoken dialects are Dùth and Chasach. The national animal is the Bonelli's Eagle (Aquila Fasciata), symbol of absolute power.

Etymology

Reconstructing the etymology of the word "Sörslúth" is very simple. When in 1877 General Aírleth took power, he surrounded himself with the most cultured men of the time, in order to exploit them for propaganda purposes. The linguist Beul was commissioned to create a new language for the newly born state. Beul was very loyal to the General, having previously been his companion in the army, and completed the job within a month. On 1st December 1877 the "Cànan Foclair" (Cànan Dictionary) was published and distributed to every family in the nation. On the first page of the book - which is still used today as a grammar text in primary schools - stood the description of the word Sörslúth, the very first constructed by Beule and the new name of the country. In Basic, Sörslúth literally means "freed from the past" (Fìor-Ghaidian's words "Seaar": "free" + "Lùth": "past").

In order not to create too great difficulties in the population, the new language found its roots in an ancient Asghaidian dialect, then spoken by General Aírleth and considered by him as the purest strain of the fragmented languages of the nation: Fìor-Ghaidian. At the time Asghaid had nine different dialects in its territory, all united by the common stock of the ancient dead language Gunsgriobt. After the publication of the new dictionary, it was difficult to make the new language take root. In the cities, many people rebelled and were consequently killed, while in rural areas it was necessary to fight illiteracy first. Aírleth decided to oppose by force. Following the great genocide of 1880, five of the nine ancient dialects disappeared. The nomadic peoples Dùth and Chasach managed to escape the massacre, thanks to their desert survival techniques and theri languages are still today alive, even if not officially recognized by the government.

The standard way to refer to a citizen of Sörslúth is "Sörslàidir".

History

Antiquity
According to the "Leabhar-Làimhe ùr ’Fhalbh" (New Handbook of the Past), Sörslúth's history begins in the year 1877. There is no trace of Asghaid or of what came before in the book. Fortunately, thanks to the emigrants to the Talamian land of the 1930s, we have received some ancient Asghaidian history books.

Asghaid was legendarily founded by a woman named Todhar, queen of the waters, who, fertilized by a squirrel, generated all the Asghaidian soil giving birth to it. The effort was so great that Todhar died, leaving the squirrel Feòlag to have to put order in the mess left by the birth. Feòlag divided the earth into nine parts, the waters into nine parts, the sky into nine parts and the men into nine tribes. He managed to reign benignly on the new country for nine hundred ninety-nine years, before he died. At his death, the waters shook and dried up: Todhar and Feòlag could finally be reunited after life. The drying up of the waters gave birth to the Ghasi desert.

The following nine tribes corresponded to the nine populations which then founded the nine states of which the Asghadian Republic was formed:
  • Biadh

  • Chasach

  • Dùth

  • Fìor-Ghaid

  • Gainmheach

  • Kraobh

  • Speur

  • Thramh

  • Uisge

Each tribe had its own peculiar form of government, each with its small differences. However, they were all united by developing around a family unit and by having a female head, called "Taighiadas", and an under-ruling man, called "Fo-Chumhachd".

For centuries, the nine tribes lived in harmony and ignorance, before they could politically establish themselves. The desert populations were nomadic and lived moving. Some managed to settle and gave rise to several inhabited centers. These, however, were not connected to each other, due to the adverse climatic conditions and ended up being soon abandoned again in favor of nomadism. On the contrary, the populations that lived along the Abhainn River managed to settle. It was the Kraobh tribe who founded the city of Bhaile-Mòr (today known as Eigobair), along the banks of the river, in the year 333. With the passage of time, more and more cities began to be born and the division between nomadic and sedentary populations was increasingly clear.

Modernity
With the passage of time, more and more cities began to be born and the division between nomadic and sedentary populations was increasingly clear.
however, coexistence was peaceful. The nomads, in the hottest periods, reached the cities for refreshment and were well received. It was in this period, around the year 600, that Asghaid first came to know trade. From the desert, goods arrived that the cities no longer knew and that they had never seen before. In the great "Wargaidh", similar to today's markets, objects of all kinds were traded and money had to be set up. The oldest coin ever found on Sörslúth's soil dates back to the year 654.

With the birth of commerce, Sorsluth began to identify politically. Son of peace between nine different peoples, the state immediately defined itself as a federal democracy. In the year 814, the nine Taighiadas of the time met to officially decree the birth of the nine confederate states of Asghaid. The most desert area was distributed equally to the nomadic populations while the sedentary populations already had boundaries based on cultural differences. Bhaile-Mòr, the oldest city, was chosen as the administrative and political capital. A first constitution was born and judicial power was instituted. The heads of government were the same nine Taighiadas, who together with their Fo-Chumhachds formed the Supreme Council. For more than a thousand years democracy and peace resisted.

Sörslúth and the Aírleth family
At the gates of the twentieth century, a serious economic crisis shocked Asghaid. The country's main export was - and still is - based on the carpet trade. The strongest desert storm in the country's history killed more than two million specimens of Caoraich, the typical desert sheep of the area. As a result, the wool industry stopped. Meanwhile, the young A'Chiad Aírleth was appointed general within the army of the state of Fìor-Ghaid. The boy, at the time thirty-six, managed to ingratiate himself with his comrades and march against the central government. On 29 October 1877, with the raid on the Lùchairt Mheadhan palace, Aírleth killed the nine Taighiadas and conquered power.

With the country's strongest army behind, keeping control of a country in economic crisis and always oriented towards peace was very easy. Aírleth surrounded himself with faithful soldiers and men of culture, to totally distort the image of the nation. Drawing on the culture of his ethnicity, he created a new language, a new flag, rewrote history books and renamed the capital to Eigobair. His government was oriented towards racial hatred, exterminating the tribes that rejected the new ideology and trying to preserve only their own as unique and purer. On December 1st 1877 the state was officially renamed Sörslúth. Aírleth also founded a new religion, of which he appointed himself as both the head and the god, naming it Kreideamh.

In 1880, a small group of Thramh ethnic rebels organized themselves to rise up against centralized power and restore democracy. As soon as the plan was known, the repression was severe. Airleth's army killed all the insurgents and mass extermination was planned, to impose the Fìor-Ghaid as the only ethnic group. Millions of people died. Even today we do not know the exact estimate. In the 1930s, some of the survivors emigrated to Talamia, bringing their history to light. In response, Talamia gave the opening of its borders, inviting every persecuted politician to find refuge in its territory.

The Aírleth family continued to maintain power and place men of arms in command of the nation. A'Chiad was succeeded by Dàrna, who reigned from 1911 to 1948, followed by Rithist, from 1948 to 1999. Today the head of government is Kwonchobh, who represents the fourth generation of the family.

Geography

Sörslúth is located in the Democratic Socialist Assembly, occupying a small part of continental territory in the Romaxia continent, bordering with Talamia to the west. The Ghasi desert occupies most of the territory. The climate is dry and arid and in summer it reaches very high temperatures. Going towards the border with Talamia, the desert begins to be called Iseremia, resulting in the homonymous region of the neighboring state. The only river that flows within it is the Abhainn. Along its banks stands Eigobair, the oldest city and the capital of the country.

Regional administrations now stand on the ruins of the ancient nine tribes. Power, however, is so strongly centralized that this administrative division is hardly taken into account.

Demography

Sörslúth has an estimated population of 134 million inhabitants, even if the strict controls do not allow us to have certain information about it. The most populous city is the capital Eigobair.

It is in no way possible for a foreign citizen to obtain citizenship. To be a citizen of Sörslúth you must have been born on its soil and be the son of citizens of Sörslúth. This is to prevent breed contamination. Of the nine indigenous ethnic groups, only three persist today: the main (91% of the population) is Fìor-Ghaid, followed by Dùth (5%) and Chasach (4%), not officially recognized.

Sörslúth's official religion is Kreideamh, whose head and God coincides with the head of state.

Government

Sörslúth, according to its constitution, is an "independent socialist state". However, we can more correctly say that it is a one-party Fascist totalitarian dictatorship. No elections are held and power is passed down from the Aírleth family of male firstborn to male firstborn. There is no Parliament and both legal and executive power are in the hands of Kwonchobh Aírleth.

The only treaty entered into with a foreign nation is that of 1914 with Talamia by the then head of the state Dàrna Aírleth. The borders between the two nations are theoretically open but on the Sörslúth side there is a very strict customs. Anyone who wishes to move elsewhere cannot leave the country and anyone who wants to enter is subject to strict controls.

Economy

Sörslúth has one of the most closed and centralized economies in DSA. The economy is mainly based on the export of carpets and therefore on the Caoraich wool trade. Most of the funds are allocated to the army, considered one of the strongest in the world.

The disparity between rich and poor is enormous. Only those around the head of state can live in a good condition. 95% of the population is considered poor.

Culture

With the taking of power by the Aírleth family, the ancient culture of Asghaid was practically canceled. Today there is no trace of the traditions of the nine ancient tribes. Furthermore, state funding to the world of theaters, cinemas and literature is low. Culture is mostly used as a propaganda method to keep the head of state in power.

The only sport actually followed by the inhabitants of Sörslúth is football. The national team was established in 1914 and has more than a hundred years of friendlies played across the DSA. Its strongest rivalry is against Talamia. Throughout history, the two teams have met twenty-one times, with eight wins per side and five draws.
