The city of Bellefontaine is known as the "home of football" in Saint-Auguste, and the most well decorated team, Bellefontaine FC, is based there.

History

The first football club was introduced to Saint-Auguste in 1893, as described in a newspaper article by The Canala Post, which stated "A number of Britcani gentlemen living in Bellefontaine have lately organised a football club... The football contests take place in the Bois de Boulogne, by permission of the authorities and the locals amazingly."

Ligue 1 was inaugurated on 29 September 1932 under the name National before switching to Division 1 after a year of existence. The name lasted until 2000 before switching to its current name. The current champions of Saint-Auguste are Bellefontaine FC, who were awarded their fourteenth title in 2021.
