Biography

Marty Anndrasdan is the 17 year old adopted son of President Larisa. He is not a vampire like her, but a kitsune. He is also a ghost, for reasons that will be detailed below.

Marty was born in 1855. His biological parents seem to have disappeared when he was only an infant, though Marty has always had Linka picture of his mother. She has 8 tails in the picture; kitsune ascend to the heavens when they gain their ninth tail, and it's possible that this happened to her unexpectedly, forcing her to abandon her son.

Marty was found by Larisa Anndrasdan (now Sitka's president) on an empty, unmarked lifeboat in the Novoarkhangelsk harbor that had drifted in after a violent storm. The apparent disappearance of any other occupants without a trace fits with the theory that Marty's original mother unexpectedly became a spirit and crossed over against her will. The origin of the boat could not be determined, but a Japanese steamer had been lost with all hands during the same storm.

Larisa raised Marty as her own son. They lived for a time in the Anndrasdan family mansion on Marlon Street before moving to a residence near the Sitka Institute of Magic so Larisa could be closer to her job as a professor. Growing up among vampires, Marty felt closer to them culturally than to other kitsune. For a time he asked Larisa if he could be turned into a vampire himself, but Larisa tried to sway him away from this, not wanting Marty to spend eternity hiding from the sun. Marty also became nocturnal, but as the entire country of Sitka operates on such a schedule this wasn't really due to his specific upbringing. As Marty grew up, Larisa reconsidered the idea of Marty becoming a vampire, as she dreaded the idea of him growing old and dying while she stayed young. His death, however, made this impossible.

In 1867, when Marty was 12, Larisa was elected mayor of Novoarkhangelsk, and Marty began to see more of the inside of Baranof Castle, the capitol building that would later become Marty's home when Larisa became president in 1871.

Also at age 12 in 1867, Marty met LinkMelody Roth, a vampire his age. Melody was the daughter of the ambassador from Prussia to the new Sitkan nation, who later became the ambassador from the North German Confederation and finally the newly-formed German Empire. Melody quickly became Marty's best friend, and then his girlfriend. Marty's other friends were, and still are, his vampiric cousin Samuel and a native lycan named LinkWendy.

In early 1871, a few months before Marty's 16th birthday, he was investigating an abandoned mansion on Marlon Street when he was attacked and ultimately killed by a rabid wolf. The next thing he remembers is waking up as a spirit at his grave in the city's graveyard. After calming himself down somewhat, he made his way home, where Larisa was extremely grateful to have him back. As there are only a few hundred spirits on Earth, she never expected him to return. She still blames herself for what happened, often having flashbacks and feeling as though she isn't worthy of being a mother. Marty insists that his death was due to his foolishness alone.

Marty's existence as a spirit is rather peculiar, for the simple reason that no other kitsune has been known to become one in this way. All kitsune become spirits once they gain their ninth tail at age 800, but records are silent on what happens when they die prematurely. This is due to the very low population of kitsune worldwide and the secretiveness of the species as a whole. In any case, Marty seems to be stuck in a sort of limbo between his 'true' spirit form and being a mundane ghost.

Personality

Personality wise, Marty's mood swings back and forth between being happy and cheerful about everything and being gloomy and depressed. One cause of this is the uncertain fate of his biological parents.

He is quite nervous about the afterlife and what he might find there, sometimes outright scared. He's afraid that it could change him in some unwanted way, and most of all fears being trapped there without his family. Sometimes concerned people attempt to convince him to cross over. Marty steadfastly rejects these attempts, and if anything they only strengthen his resolve not to leave his life and family behind.

Still, when he's cheerful you can tell that he really likes being a ghost, and wouldn't have it any other way. He can often be seen reading in the forests around New Archangel or flying around the islands enjoying the view. He also likes to sleep on the same schedule as when he was alive even though spirits don't need sleep, as he enjoys dreaming.

Marty can be somewhat childish and immature at times, but this should not be mistaken for a lack of intelligence; he can easily go into detail about any part of history, or discuss the latest developments in physics.

He can also have his feelings hurt rather easily. He sticks close to Larisa, especially when something scares him. He seems to have a second frequent mood swing, going from being brave to very timid.

Something that worries him is the possibility of his friends dying in the future and not coming back. He's already lost his biological parents and even his own life; he doesn't want to go through any more emotional pain.

Marty carries a picture of his biological mother with him wherever he goes.

Marty's biological mother is actually an ancient Japanese kami. She created him, and he has no father. Marty doesn't know any of this, having never seen his biological mother.

Like all kitsune, Marty can take on a more foxlike form. When he does so, he looks Linklike this. However, he prefers his 'normal' form and almost never does this. He does wear this outfit sometimes, though.

Also, the pictures of Marty in this factbook are from before he became a ghost. He still looks the same, only white and semi-transparent.
