Melbourne is an amazing city - it’s one of the most multicultural cities in the world, relatively harmonious, has heaps of parks and gardens, a great public transport and cycling system, best education system in the country, set around a beautiful bay, 2hrs to the snow, 2hrs to the Australian Alps, 2hrs to dozens of surf beaches, cheaper than Sydney, the sporting capital of the world, the cultural capital of Australia and was the world’s most livable city for about 5 years (we’re now 2nd to Vienna), is one of only 4 global cities of literature and pretty much on par with Sydney for population.

Think of Portland or Vancouver in the size of Seattle that is safer, more progressive and more multicultural! I feel I live in the best city in the world!!!

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE

Today is the International Day of Peace. Let us come together in reflection, hope and prayer for a world with less violence, conflict and injustice and one where peace, justice and kindness rule.

Jesus said, ‘Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God’ - Matthew 5:9.

Dear God,
In a world so full of conflict and division and in a world where hope can often feel distant, we come together, as members of the body of Christ to pray for those that find themselves in situations of violence, conflict and injustice, they they may find peace and rest in you. We pray for the rulers of the world, that they may work to end war and conflict and work for the good of all. We pray that the church may be a beacon of hope, light and justice for all the world. We pray for the protection and safety of those who work for peace and the elimination of violence often placing their own lives at risk to save those of others. We pray that you can give us the wisdom, strength and guidance to follow Jesus’ words and actions to be peacemakers in the world. We pray that as a region we can be an example of this teaching through creating peace within our region, serving as an example to others and furthering the cause of peace in NationStates. God we pray that your will for peace may be done on earth as it is in heaven and for the soon return of your son, Jesus Christ, where we will see an end to suffering and the flourishing peace. We say this prayer in the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Amen.

I would also like to share an incredible campaigner for peace and justice. Eleanor Roosevelt was the First Lady of the United States from 1933-1946, served as the US Representative to the United Nations, oversaw the drafting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and was a prominent campaigner for youth, women and racial minorities in the United States. She was a woman far ahead of her time whose resolve and influence has fundamentally changed the world for the better.

This quote by Eleanor Roosevelt has been a favourite of mine for many years. I hope it inspires you, as it does me, on this important day.

‘It isn’t enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it. And it isn’t enough to believe in it. One must work at it.’

Blessings to you all on this important day.

In another region I had a friend who said he’s gonna stop to play NS. He returned in like 20 days. This game is just too tempting to leave.

Lord Jesus, you called Matthew from collecting taxes to become your apostle and evangelist: Grant us the grace to forsake all covetous desires and inordinate love of riches, that we may follow you as he did and proclaim to the world around us the good news of your salvation; for with the Father and the Holy Spirit you live and reign, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Even if you're not going to read this, good luck, my friend. Please take care of yourself. If you need anything at all, my tgs are still open. I'm sorry that you don't feel like you can be here, but you're welcome anytime.

Hello friends! I hope everyone has a great monday. I would like to share with you an excerpt from Eduardo de la Serna's last post on his blog, a Catholic priest whom I read frequently. The post is titled "A contribution to spirituality from the Covid" and addresses the issue of meetings and celebrations of worship, which have been banned since March in the country to avoid contagion of the virus:

"Looking at some expressions, some certainly unfortunate, we must admit, it seems that believing human beings cannot "meet God" without the possibility of worship. Churches (and Synagogues, and Mosques, and Temples) are closed and, it seems, that God is closed for us, but is that so?

(...)

God chooses Israel as a people, not because they are the best, nor the strongest, nor the wisest, but simply so that they live in right and justice, and thus show the other nations (“light of the nations”) that another world is possible, not a world of oppressors and oppressed, masters and slaves, superiors and subjects, but a society of brothers (and sisters, let's add, although this idea is not developed in the Hebrew Bible). That is to say: God is found there, in the brother, in the practice of these qualities, only afterwards worship is an option of encounter. "After". If "worship" is the area of encounter with God, then it must be stated clearly: that happens in the brother, not in the temple (or its subsequent circumstances) (...) If it is about "encounter", certainly we will meet God "where he is" and not where we would like (...) This new family, gathered around love is what the followers of Jesus will call “Church”. The Church is, then, a community gathered in the love of sisters and brothers with their Father.

(...)

All this leads us to conclude undoubtedly that it is in the other that we meet God; only “after” does the community meeting of worship make sense (...) In times of pandemic, of so many sick people (known or not), of so many who are spent and wear themselves out to serve (essential services personnel...), of so much suffering, loneliness, anguish... where do we find God? The father of the poor, the orphan and the widow, the rescuer (go'el) of the impoverished and enslaved, the one who recognizes himself present in the hungry, thirsty, sick and imprisoned is certainly there, in the brother and sister! (...) ".

Is not this fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? (Is. 58: 6-7).

Question for everyone.

With the ratification of Treaties, what does everyone think is the best process for them to be ratified? I can think of 4 practical ones:
1. Founder/Director of Foreign Affairs Signature
2. Approval by The Elders
3. Approval by The Legislature
4. Referendum

Curious as to what everyone thinks will work best going forward.

I would propose it going through the elders and then assembly.

Sorry about the double post, first of all. But could you guys please join me in praying for the preservation of democracy, for the people of Louisville, and for Breonna Taylor's family?

I suppose the referendum is good for regional involvement however using a US style system would mean only the Elders would need to approve it. The second is simpler but democracy is good too!!

SPEAKER ELECTION
My time as speaker of The Assembly has now come to an end. It has been an absolutely privilege to serve in this role. It is now up to The Assembly to elect a new Speaker. I'm going to run the Speakership election pretty much the same as an Elder election - the key difference is that only members of The Assembly can nominate and vote. If you'd like to nominate, please let me know within 2 days and we'll then vote. This is an important role in the Region and I strongly encourage everyone to get involved. During the next 2 days, I'm going to put up a political parties registration poll just so we understand where the majority of the region lies :)

Here's the part of The Constitution that deals with The Speaker:
10.3 The Assembly shall appoint a Deacon, from a member of The Assembly, to serve as 'Speaker of The Assembly' for a period of 6 months. The Speaker shall be responsible for overseeing the business of The Assembly and ensure The Assembly's proceedings are conducted in an orderly and timely manner. The Speaker shall act independently and impartially and may only vote to break a tie in The Assembly.

I have a question about the parties. What do they do within the system of this regions? Like, what is their purpose?

I believe that a referendum would be the ideal and most democratic option. Also approval by the Legislature, which includes the Elders as the upper house. However, I would try to establish a majority that takes into account how many active Nations there are in the Region so that this is not an obstacle when collecting the votes.

That’s a good question! More than anything they quickly identify candidates and individuals with a specific philosophy/line of thought which is helpful for elections and also outline a vision for the region through their manifestos.
