2. ???

3. If Tibet is to be free, it must be in alternate universe where everyone on Earth loves democracy and the environment is such that Tibet is a republic. Handing Tibet back to Dalai Lama as a theocracy will only makes things worse. Also, this raises bigger questions. If Tibet is to free, what about others? Forget other regions, let's take China itself. There are roughly 60 "nationalities" and Tibetans are just one of them. If Tibetans deserve their own free country, why not these other peoples?

4. Why bother? There is not going to be any Nepal or Bhutan (cough, cough...Kashmir and Laddakh...cough, cough South Tibet/Arunanchal Pradesh which is in India but China claims...cough, cough Sikkim) a couple centuries from now. Landlocked countries in the middle of nowhere sandwiched between two giants (who will likely dominate the next few centuries to come) are doomed anyway; why even bother creating more :P

Well that's depressing.

Havalland wrote:Well that's depressing.

It is depressing, because China (communist or nationalist) will never give up Tibet.

Is the CCP slowly assimilating/removing Tibetan culture? Yes, it is. It violently puts down any resistance. But will China give up Tibet? Heck, no.

Physical reasons why China wants to hold on to Tibet: The large rivers that made the Han civilization thrive and still continue to be China's lifeline originate in Tibet.

Geopolitical reasons: Economic corridor with Pakistan, rival of their rival India. Not to mention that an independent Tibet (like Bhutan IRL) would be friendly to India rather than China.

But will an independent Tibet (which would be an another landlocked least-developed country) ruled by a theocrat be any better than Chinese-occupied Tibet? That is the question. Nepal and Bhutan both depend on their bigger neighbors (and third parties) for almost everything that the bigger question is: what is the point of saying you are an independent nation when your constitution has to be approved by New Delhi or Beijing? Are you really independent when your bigger neighbor can just blockade you (and the entire world is like: "what blockade?")? When your leaders are removed if the big brothers don't like them?

Would it not be better to be a province of theirs instead and not worry about debts, the trade deficits and all other problems and you know, no longer being a least developed sh!thole?

And the less said about Kashmir the better. The entire region was screwed from beginning.

Bring back the Yuan dynasty

I will bet on a decade or so before those Mongols are thrown out by a peasant army whose leader becomes the leader of a new dynasty and writes bad stuff about the former :P

And don't bother. I tried to bring this issue like three times or more before. Doesn't go anywhere. Having our own head-canons is better.

I suppose so

Or the Tang

Saw Joker today.

Media would have me believe that makes me want to oppress women and minorities as well as shoot up a movie theater (here's exactly how they would do it, too) because only incels see movies like this

Couldn't be further from the truth. I don't have access to a gun.

In all honesty, I liked the movie. Went with my dad, with no expectations, and we both decided it was a pretty good movie. Especially for DC. Joaquin Phoenix was really, really good

I agree. It's not fair, dude :P

India and China should be like Europe with 20-30 countries each.

That just means it's going to be more difficult for the US to bankroll all of the countries that commit crimes against humanity

And American countries as well. No exception for you guys :P

Even Chile is big; spanning all the way from the northern tip of Scotland to the southern edge of Algeria.

Calling all merchant republics from 1066-1444.

please tg me if you were or contained (county, duchy, etc.) a merchant republic during this time period, TWI needs merchants to battle for trade zones.

You never really think of Chile as big but it is actually very big.

The real shock for me was Indonesia, which would strech from Britain to Afghanistan

A message to you all
With a heavy heart, I must say that I am leaving this region. I may be back, probably, hopefully, but for now, it's so long suckers.

Good to get to know you all.

Ironically enough, I went with a girl (no, it wasn't me mum or any relative of mine) to see it at the weekend.
Personally I felt the ending was a bit rushed, but other than that it was really good.
