We follow an interesting rule around here which is that if one member of a family tests positive, the whole family does. Ergo, one of my parents tested positive and well... For the week I'm in isolation since we were already doing it since Saturday. And thanks, I'll manage since I have a lot of posts to end.

Lillorainen wrote:Ouch. Indeed, I'm hoping, that you're doing fine, and that the time won't get too boring for you.

Or: Ronny Aoire of the Tribe of Monaghan - the guy who's but a simple construction worker and engineer, who, however, also magically appears whenever a blackscreen is needed, no matter where in the world ... ;)

Thank you mate, I think I'll get through as I also have college as well to do.

Around here, if someone you were in close contact with, tests positive, you are put under quarantine for two weeks or, if I remember correctly, ten days, if your test returns negative after ten days and you show no symptoms.

Well not so far away of the system we use around here I guess, btw. I'm having a bit of an issue on how to make that introduction post for ABH's RP, how do you think it would make sense to have an 2 ships task unit or destroyer squadron around the area??

Hm... maybe they're in transit (which would raise the question from where to where, so that might be out) or securing sea lanes... you weren't in Thus, Men of Iron Fought Here, right?
I must admit, that I am a bit stumped.

The Selkie-iteration of that guy? *https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGlPbphlpBg* (All non-Germans may ignore that ...) Absolutely! :D

Mervay wrote:Thank you mate, I think I'll get through as I also have college as well to do.

No problem. My mother has gone through that twice - luckily, the 'worst' outcome of that, was that I had to buy her groceries.

Well, hopefully our Ronny works without yelling at people like that... ; )

Well, damm... Never thought of this... Count out an SEA Operation since your navy seems to be doing it on it's own so... Yeah, perhaps you might ABH's only support...

Yikes! I don't want to imagine how difficult it is to have it twice.

Yeah, that one is a leftover from Pre-SEA-times... though, you might not throw your hope away yet.
An idea I just had: Would there be a reasonable purpose for two of your destroyers to be in the Atlantic?

To make it clear, she didn't catch the Coof. But she works in a retirement home, where in two different cases, someone was tested positively, which made her go through the full two weeks of quarantine.

Something tells me, that it's very unlikely ... after all, I based our Ronny on him. ;)

Yes, but he isn't craning in the black screens, now is he?

If I have to say about it... Perhaps, but it's more likely to see them around the Ceres Ocean en route to the Yangan Federation (Possible NPC I plan on making), unless they were bound to an freedom of navigation operation in the horn of Africa??

Hm... then I'm out of ideas. Maybe ABH has one?

The Selkie wrote:Yes, but he isn't craning in the black screens, now is he?

He indeed isn't - the blackscreen part came later, when we decided to use him for that. Prior to this point, he was a construction worker the same way Ronny in the video is.
(Which even got me to his name - the one in the video is called Ronny Schäfer. All I did was looking up what 'shepherd' means in Irish, then we went with Ronny Aoire. ;))

So, at least he isn't yelling while he gives Cel and Chris their privacy? ; )
(Lol.)

Perhaps, but if not. I'll guess I'll have them be part of the task forces that will get there as soon as things escalate.

He isn't. And someone taking his work as seriously as he does will immediately yell at anyone who's yelling during a scene like that. ;)
(Yeah, I'm still somewhat proud of having created my first unofficial Selkie-chara that way, even though he'll probably be unofficial until roughly the end of time. :D)

If we interpret his role for a moment while considering the person he is inspired by - the only reason why we know Ronny Schäfer is his way of yelling, and he does that for a very legitimate reason, which gets clear by watching the documentary the video is taken from. You cannot place a crane onto soft soil, for if it's upset, which is extremely likely to happen here, there wouldn't only be a financial damage, but also, more importantly, the potential of an immediate danger to human lives. Schäfer is absolutely correct in flipping out at this point. I wouldn't react in any different way.
As he's a man taking his responsibilities seriously, I couldn't think of a single instance in our RPs he would mess up in. :)

I do not deny those points. His responsibility is huge and he takes care of that responsibility. Still, I would think of some instances in our RPs, which he could mess up in - for instance, he doesn't strike me as someone, who could ride a horse. ; )

If we're talking about the person he's inspired by, I wouldn't be sure, either. If we're talking about the person he's serving as in RPs ... well, if he's a Selkie, why wouldn't he? Riding areas and paddocks do need to be solidified, too, after all. ;)

Lillorainen wrote:Though, your point was, that commercial products aren't allowed to be named after God or other holy figures. Civilian ships oftentimes do fall under the definition of a commercial product - after all, a private person is supposed to buy it.

Well, a ship (or boat) is much more than a vehicle - for many sailors and fishermen, their vessels are like second wives or pets to them, and each ship is considered to have her own personality and soul. So to name a ship after a saint is viewed as an honor, same as naming your child after one. In fact, most new ships are baptized by a Catholic priest, before entering the water. In addition, ships aren't sold with names - the naming usually happens after they're given to their owners.

(Given the car culture in Lillorainen, I'd imagine people treat their cars the same way over there - but with a pagan blessing, not Christian.)

However, it's a different thing to commercialize holy names for profit. That's considered to be degrading, not honoring, the holy figure. So you can name your fishing boat after Mary Magdalene, but not your store or restaurant.

Lillorainen wrote:If I were a Portuguese shipbuilder and built a cruise liner named, say, "MS María Madalena", would it make it into the Portuguese ship registry with the same ease the MS Aegir does in the Lillorainian one, or would I get myself into some conflict?

In Portuguese, Maria doesn't have an accent - María is Spanish. That aside, the name would be fine, unless another ship already has it.

The Selkie wrote:Very good question of what one could mean by balanced personality... in any case, you are correct, Everyday Joe has interesting and fun stories (and meaningful and valid and many other adjectives) to tell. I would define myself as a normal person and I have a lot to tell every evening after work.

Lillorainen wrote:I agree. Take my character Lena Mesenich - student of Linguistics, passionate shooter, passionate horserider, living in Lillorainen's most populated state, looking like your average Lillorainian girl, coming from an average household, and before her name change, she was called Lena Pütz, which is as common in Lillorainen as Mary Miller would be in an English-speaking nation. If we all lived in Lillorainen, we'd all know several people exactly like her. Yet, I'd very much doubt, that she has nothing exciting to tell. ^^ Bringing an Average Joe type of character is, in and of itself, nothing that inevitably leads to boredom.

Agreed. Though, the definition of an "Average Joe" can vary quite a lot, from one nation to another.

Take the example of Francisco Escudeiro, an average Portuguese: zealous Catholic, traditionalist, reactionary, homophobe, science denier and anti-vaxxer. Compared to him, Lena (or even Val, who's also Portuguese but with much more moderate views) would be a radical liberal Marxist urban hipster.

And vice-versa - in Lillorainen, Francisco's views would make him be seen as a fanatical religious extremist, while Val would have a much easier time fitting in (except for the heavy beer-drinking).

isn't this just the plot of every shipgirl game

I am completely unsure if I have any "average Joes" in the Confederation involved in PruCh and Piffle + Setz before it, and the closest I could think of would probably be Sherman Piañar before I really fleshed out his character in Piffle and PruCh.

if your character is not a high ranking military officer, a major academic, a major businessman, or a major politican/civil servant, as far as i'm concerned he's average.
