I think we still maintain Germanic grammar and although we do have many French/Latin rooted words, the majority of our vocabulary is still germanic rooted. For every French/Latin rooted word there tends to be a Germanic rooted synonym you can still use

Like all gatherings of humans, the larger the unit, the more chance for corruption. There isn’t a place larger then a hamlet that doesn’t have some, and I’d be willing to bet some little hamlet has the mayor’s kid getting cushy jobs for influence.
