The Currency Control Law was created after currency exchange posts on kosaki city began reporting legal tenders without security features such as dust and paper. To remedy the problem, the Hostile Currency Act is used on these currencies but, since the Hostile Currency Act can only be applied to hostile nations, it did not fully solve the problem and therefore, requires a new law for restricting what currencies can be exchanged in Kosaki City.
The justifications used by those in support of the Currency Exchange Control Act are:
a step into isolationism, security,tax dodging and keeping foreign countries in check.
Those opposed to the law used these justifications:
Human rights,ease of trade,pacifism and tax dodging.
Even on the Municipal Assembly, the law is controversial with it being split along party lines, the economic libertarians and their free economy party being opposed to the law in every way,while the social democrats and their labor party were only opposed to the fact that it restricted who they can trade with and the right wing nationalists and their reunification party is fully supportive of the law.
During the week where the law is being discussed, shouting would often erupt and in the 3rd day, a brawl occured between the reunification party and the free economy party leading to the politicians involved being ordered out of the Assembly during the session. The law was be passed on a narrow margin as 2 independent candidates voted in favor of the law.
After the law was given to the municipal court, they reviewed it and found the law to in compliance with the basic agreements and given to the municipal officer,Mayor Mae Hanako, who vetoed the law but was overturned, and at 20:00 the mayor signed the law and it's officially enforced at Nov.27 23:59.
Once the news broke out, there was immediate public backlash with the libertarians complaining breach of human rights and some companies lobbied for it's withdrawal as it practically mean they can no longer trade with nations with weak security features on their currency but, the majority of the population was indifferent as they felt it does not affect them.
