What if you were on the fence about running and one of your good mates made a nomination for you, but the slackers running the polls didn't notify anyone who was nominated that they were nominated and never updated the campaign list? Maybe you even knew you were nominated, but since the list never got updated you were never sure to start campaigning, or did start campaigning but was not put in the poll??

Unplannedland wrote:I've been thinking about the poll, it's a shame more people aren't voting for option #2. As well as what you said, if option #2 passed it would mean that it would be fairer because everyone would start campaigning at the same time whereas with option #4 some people could get nominated more quickly and start campaigning earlier, thereby giving them a head start.

It seems like most people who voted #1 are not people who have ever run in the LC or participate much in the RMB. I guess I'm very confused if people are being deliberately obtuse to troll/hinder the LC elections. I wont complain if nothing happens after this poll though. I tried my best and the region gave me its answer.

Looking at the current polling, something like 5 days nominations + 5 days campaigning might be the most acceptable solution.

Then maybe the problem lies in fixing the people running the polls??

It would be better, but I prefer a 7 day combined period (which wasn't an option). 10 days is too long I believe for the whole process, based on the amount of campaigning that happens. 3 days is too short to accept nominations, especially when the EC doesn't update the list regularly. Some mix of options 2, 4 and 6 seems right to me.

I'd agree - none of the options matched exactly what I would favour.

But, from the various options and based on how people have voted, five and five is probably the way forward.

Good to see discussion of the poll options. A few people have mentioned that the electoral commissioner can be slow to notify people that they have been nominated, but unfortunately this is something outside of the control of the local council.

Personally I prefer the joint nomination period, because it allows the longest time to accept nominations (useful in the case of an inactive electoral commissioner), but I understand people's concerns about the unfair advantage of campaigning early. Maybe a better option would be to have a joint nomination/campaign period, but to only allow campaigning for the second half of that.

This poll is designed to judge what people's general opinions are; I'll likely try to pass the law in a forum-style manner (I'll draft it on the RMB, people can comment on the draft, and I'll amend it until we think it should be voted on - then the poll would be a simple yes/no for the law)

As BCP noted, I haven't heard much on the RMB from those who voted option 1, but giving opinions and explaining why you have them is going to be a key part of the more rigourous drafting of the law.

I thought you wanted a longer nom period.

There actually isn't anything obligating the LC to use an "election commissioner" system, or to specifically use the same person as forum elections. We would simply need to remove the LC part of the Elections Act, which would free you guys up to do whatever type of system you want.

I did wonder about that. I think the nomination process probably could be arranged better in future - anyone got any thoughts on this?

Flexibility? Have a cut of date for nominations, but allow people to accept them until voting begins?

The problem last time was that people had to accept a nomination before the campaign period, which for late nominations meant little time - especially if people weren't informed they were nominated until close to the deadline.

Hello!

Greetings fellow nations/states/whatever-the-crap-you-ID-with,

I, The Federation of Northern Allied Territories (or just TFoNAT [or just NAT]), have created quite the military.
All of my numerous mercenaries, child soldiers, and college conquistadors have received more power thanks to the only true god; SCIENCE!!!
We have developed tech that allows us to clone, edit, and create the most advanced warriors of all time!
But ONE of these supermen can do the work of a HUNDRED normal humans!!
Also, we used our imprisoned hippies and nudists as well as some of our national animal to create unimaginable abominations.

As Billy Mays always said: " BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!!!"
Our conquistadors have found advanced materials on their journeys and sent them back to our scientists.
These materials are harder and lighter like no other!
The most worthy of note is Graphene, a material twice as strong as Kevlar and thin enough for subdermal body armor! (Look it up, it is real!)
With this and some other stuff, we have created advanced ships, planes, drones, terminators, tanks, sports cars, bombs, ICBMs, spacecraft, you name it we have it!!

We may also have a slightly illegal space laser.

So, say your prayers to your false gods, kiss your loved ones goodbye, hide under your desk, and prepare for the war to end all wars.

WHO'S LAUGHING NOW TSUNAMY?!?! HUH!? WHO'S LAUGHING NOW!?!

This has been another friendly announcement by your friendly neighborhood NAT.
Good day!

So. I am #22 in the region for endorsements. I see that I need to up the pressure. If I am not #20 by the Nightly Norman at the end of the week, Norman will die. I will put a sword through his shell and we can all watch together as he thrashes in pain, coughing up blood and taking his last breaths. So do the easy thing and endorse me. Or Norman will die.
