The first interstellar

Taledonia wrote:1) I'm not entirely sure, but can imagine it ranges from Interstellar-like realism all the way to 40k level fantasy tech. Do as you wish.
2) There is great discord between our people on these message boards, but there is no Discord outside of here. United front to outsiders, you know?

Also, allowing for such a fluid range from near-reality to basically fantasy would create very unfair power balances.

My pedal-powered spacecraft have never left me lacking. Sure, travel may take generations, but children are happy to pedal in the same seat that their father pedaled in, and his father before him, and his father before him, and his father before him, and his father before him, and his father before him, and his father before him, and his father before him, and his father before him...

The amount of realism (or lack thereof) largely depends on the individual player. Speaking for myself, I tend to be hyper realistic in with regards to planetology, astronomy and stellar cartography. Furthermore, biology and all that that entails is also based on hyper reality. Technology is different, as I use FTL (which is ubiquitous for most), while others I've seen are hyper realistic in this regard. It boils down to what one feels comfortable with.

This sounds rather cyclical...

I'm aware, but was attempting humour. There is no Discord, as we are not a united region. This is but a place to reside with other FT players. As to power imbalance, that has, and always will, exist on the forums. Best way to look at it is that technology is more like icing, and it may be incredibly attractive and thick, but you can't say your chocolate cake beneath is better than anyone else's chocolate cake. If I go pew-pew with railguns or missiles, you should assume they're just as effective as a pew-pew from an Infinity Beam™. Within reason, that is. Basically, don't say that your hyper-tech ships are invulnerable to Zarathoft's pedal operated munitions.

Both to be honest!

The first interstellar wrote:Questions:

1) How hard is the level of science fiction in this region?
2) Do we have a Discord?

1) As hard or soft as you like, really. Yes, that is what she said. I just said it.

I know at least one nation lurking in here prefers their tech hard-boiled, with floaty crewmembers, big radiators to keep the floaty crewmembers from boiling alive, and G-force-inducing engines that kill them with thrust anyway, and all that jazz.

Then there's me, teleporting all over the shop like somebody who never stopped to consider whether or not transporters kill the original person and create a copy of them at the othe- wait...

2) Take it up with Taledonia. I don't like Discord, personally, so I'm relieved by its absence. Or more precisely, my laptop doesn't like it. Also I don't like it.

It's up to you whether you choose to roleplay with people on the opposite end of the spectrum. Personally some of my favourite RPs have been driven by a power imbalance, though - whether that be myself or others. Don't discount them on face value. The key is to evaluate whether or not the person you're roleplaying with is "in it to win it" or just wants to tell a good story. If it's the latter, you can probably work something out.

He left, presumably because of our dislike of Chaos. I mean Discord. I mean...wait, Interstellar Planets is a she? The more you know! And knowing is half the battle. The other half is the battle. Which really doesn't make sense, does it? How can something be half of itself, when its other half is something else? Would you have to have something new? The battle+knowing can't equal the battle. Unless knowing is equal to 0, in which case you know nothing, and so you're always halfway to the battle. Hmm, I don't know what to think, which must mean I'm about to do battle.

Oh. Well now I feel stupid.

Also, what?

You appear to be heading into battle, as well.

Half of me is! Apparently!

Which half? Will you divide yourself down the middle, so that you have one eye, one arm and one leg to fight with? Or will you split at the waist, and send a powerhouse of kicks or punches?

Oh boy, how long have I been out?

I tend to go for a diagonal cut, myself. It's not necessarily practical, but it's fair.

Tal's been hammed 75,295 times since you last logged on.

Hammed?

I assume Interstellar Planets is using hammed in the sense that I've gotten hammered, as in drunk. Less likely, and to my great chagrin, she means that I consumed pork 75,295 times in roughly a week. What a fatty I would be, but the bacon, oh, the bacon!

Spread love and peace-peace yes-yes

Taledonia condemns, in the strongest possible terms, this new resolution by Arstizikistan. Your lack of compassion for the galaxy is despicable. Why won't you allow us all to move forward into a greater future populated only by those who can support themselves?

Tisk tisk.

Also, I have no idea what you're talking about, and feel like one person runs both nations. But whatever the case, welcome to the region! I hope you enjoy your slow descent into madness.
