I was referring to our dwindling numbers. We used to have many more nations in our region.

Of course. It appears to be a reoccurring thing around NationStates.

Agreed. International Incidents devolved into a mess of mostly one lined, half-thought, posts of nuclear annihilation due to a player sending 900,000 troops into their countries within the span of 3 minutes. It's sorry.

I don’t think I have seen many regions at all that are still operating roleplays. Even if that region was solely dedicated to one.

I've never done region-based RP. I've always used the forums, and I usually go through Discord or TGs to coordinate things.

But yeah, times certainly have changed.

I've been on NS since 2013. In that time, I've done Region-based and Forum-based. I've always preferred Region based for its organized, tidy and closed-lore setting.

I’ve been here since 2016 maybe, but as a different nation. I’ve only ever done region based RP, but I think the region one of my other nations is in currently has a discord based RP that I seem to be the only one using.

Of course. So let us brain-storm.

We could possibly have located an uninhabited set of star systems that are very rich in resources. So a bit of colonization dispute.

Sounds like a good place to start.

(Alright I’ll Start)

*After months of stargazing and mapping the Federal Terresan Government has discovered an uninhabited star system. This system contains nine planets with two possibly being capable of sustaining colonies. One of these worlds is peppered with bodies of water and brightly colored natural fauna. The other planet is mostly arid, but still contains many riverways and seas. These two worlds have been designated Kotaris (Foresty one) and Drakon (Desert). To further investigate these worlds, Terresa has assembled a team of scientists and explorers to be sent to this planet. This team will be provided by the “Survey Corps”.*

President's Office, The Citadel, Executive District
Geneva, Switzerland

"Breaking news coming in from the Mariner Valley tonight, where riots have persisted for nearly five weeks now. The leader of the riots has refused to comment but Alliance officials have-" The screen, once filled with vibrant colors have since fallen silent and dark at the press of a holographic prompt. Alone in his office, Elias sighed heavily as he reclined in his chair, arms draped over his head, creasing his fresh suit under his arms. The stress of the position as President had grown burdensome to him. Outer colonies on the brink of collapse, inner colonies on the brink of rebellion, such as the Mariner Valley riots on Mars. The Alliance was dying and partisanship would be it's executioner. The Golden Age of Earth was coming to a close.

A knock on the door caused Elias's body to jolt as he stared blankly out into the snowy cityscape of Geneva surrounding the massive white marble and stone structure known as the Citadel, center of Intersystem Alliance power. Elias put his hands on his desk and cleared his throat.

"Come in." the doors opened, revealing an older man, late seventies, grey-haired, wrinkled face, worn eyes. A member of the Old Guard, a faction of politicians that remained from President Juarez's administration during the height of the golden age. Only two remained, Mr. Kevin Younger, Minister of the Interior and Mr. Jinn Wright, Minister of Transportation.

"Mister President, got something you're gonna want to see." Minister Younger said as he hobbled into his office. The Minister had a bad hip, but instead of implementing cybernetic implants that much of the Alliance enjoyed, he was content with old fashioned pain killers and getting back to work. A mentality that has been in short supply, one that has been desperately needed.

"Show me what you've got."

With a few presses of his hand terminal, his office terminal lit up with cartographic displays of a Star system, sequences of numbers and letters next to the star and the various planets, moons and asteroids.

"A new star system, untouched. Nine planets in total with at least two that are habitable. We've been sending probes here for two months and compiled enough data to initiate an expedition. This expedition will be assembled with a team of scientists, colonization specialists and security forces to hold the site while we prepare to bring the system into the fold. The expedition will target 2D66A, or Harvest. Plentiful bodies of H2O, flora and fauna. The second, 2D92B or Bounty, while also habitable is mostly arid. Harvest is priority one."

President Walker nodded In approval at the discovery of new territory. A boost to the I.A.'s economy, for sure.

"When will the expedition begin the trip?" Elias asked with tight lips, grasping at a gold pen with some inscription given to him by one of the Vice Presidents, a name he couldn't remember.

"Within 72 hours is what I was told. My office is requisitioning the science vessel Magellan from the Home Fleet, but you know bureaucracy better than anyone. Things take time." Elias thought on this for a moment.

"Right....I'll make a few calls. I bet I can shave a few dozen or so hours off of that wait time. I'll call you."

With that, both men exchanged hand shakes and parted ways, leaving Elias to contemplate the future of his people and his administration before making calls.

Terresan Chamber of Legislation, Armonia Silta

Miko Hitoma Commander of the Kotaris and Drakon expedition entered the tucked away hall, pushing open the great wooden door. Inside the room was a great wooden table which consumed most of the space, around the table were 12 seats of which eight were occupied. Miko took a seat
“You’re late, Hitoma” scolded Tylis Holsey
“Sorry sir, I was with my family.” He explained
“Fair enough, we are still waiting for the Navy anyhow.”

Hitoma pulled out a cyberdisk from his shirt pocket and handed it off
“Here is our planned routes, and cargo manifests as requested.” He reported
Right then the door opened as three naval officers entered, Minor Admiral Oscric Itcan, Commander Tillis Osric, and a Minor Lieutenant entered filling up the remaing empty seats.

“Alright we’ll get started, Hitoma want to explain your plan?” Holsey suggested
“We have four Survey teams of 36 members and eight crew members for our main ship ready to depart in the next eight hours.”
A holoscreen became active and showed images of the two planets and the ship.
“As soon as we enter the system each survey team will board their own ship loaded with necessary supplies. Two ships per planet, one will survey and land on a western portion of the planets while the other will land in the eastern portion of the planets.” He informed

The visual changed to show a depiction of the landings.

“About how long will the teams last without resupply?” Questioned Commander Osric
“Each team will have necessary supplies for a month without resupply. For which our main ship will be able to provide orbital supply drops.”
“And when the ship begins running low is when the navy comes in correct?” Assumed Admiral Itcan
“Correct Admiral, about every four months a ship will be needed to provide resupply.” Miko answered
“Other then that Admiral, the Federal Nav can not be directly involved with planetary efforts. Public would go insane if they heard we were using our soldiers on a foreign world” informed Holsey.
“Fair enough, however we would request Minor Lieutenant Jon Tulso be included on the main ship’s crew as a military liaison.”
Holsey and Hitoma glanced at eachother before Holsey shrugged
“Yeah we’ll make room, we’ll be departing in the next eight hours and are expected to arrive sometime tomorrow afternoon. We have plenty of communications equipment and will keep you informed” Hitoma concluded
“Why such a long travel time?” Questioned Osric
“We’re going to minimize slipdrive use to preserve fuel.” Responded Hitoma
“Glad to hear it, this meeting has now concluded.” Holsey declared.

With that all members then exited the room, Hitoma and Tulso boarding a vehicle to a Naval Port where the Calsey exploratory vessel was docked.

Kotaris Atmosphere

“This is Survey Team 1, we are descending into the southwestern portion of the planet, so far so good.” Reported Yuli Omil Commander of ST1.
“Roger that ST1, once you hit he ground engage phase one settlement protocol once you land” Responded Commander Hitoma
“Yes Sir, we are approaching ground and have engaged thrusters to prep a landing.”

A few minutes later the Survey team’s shuttle landed and the crew began pitching shelters. They were hexegon shaped and made of a hardened fabric supported by metal poles. There were three shelters, one was a barracks, another was a laboratory/greenhouse, and the third was a communications center. This system was standard for scientific expeditions, however more equipment is provided based on environment.

“This is ST1 we’ve constructed our facilities and have begun building the solar array, walls, and comms dish.” Reported the ST1 Commander
“Roger, whats it like down there?”
“The air is breathable, and we have landed in a meadow with a thick forest to our west. Our pilot said their is a lake to the south.”
“Affirmative, when available send a team to do water samples.”
“Yes sir, we’ll have it done by the end of the day. Has ST3 landed?”
“Negative they are loading now ST2 on Drakon has reported a successful landing near a watering hole. Shelters are in place and they are conducting research currently.”

Yeah I advanced a little since originally I said the explorers would be there in a day. Yes you should deploy your units.

The I.A.S.S. Eratosthenes
Entering the Heliopause of the Cybele System

The cramped square shaped halls seemed to grow tighter as the majority of the Eratosthenes' science and security crews moved as one from crew quarters to the bridge. A few of the light panels above flickered as they walked past, the orange and yellow striping running parallel to the grey metal panel floors in desperate need of a new paint job. Despite the President's and the Office of the Interior's requests, the illustrious Fleet Admiral Harper of the Home Fleet gave the Cybele Expedition the 'legendary' explorer ship Eratosthenes instead of the practically brand new Magellan. In truth, while the Erat had served in the Navy for 87 years and surveyed 39 star systems during the Golden Age, the ship was barely holding together. Patch jobs and partial system overhauls were the only thing keeping the expedition crew members from cold abyss of space. It's not that the Magellan was unavailable or even attached to a service cycle. The ship had been sitting in Drydock #397 on Luna. No, this was a matter of politics, an ancient institution that never failed to rear it's ugly head within the Human civilization. It was a matter of party lines and whose hand to shake while stabbing another in the back. While the Intersystem Alliance Armed Forces answered to the President, having close friends within the senatorial opposition put Fleet Admiral Harper in a bad position. Instead of focusing on helping the Alliance as a whole by working together, he chose to hold strong to his own policies that aligned sharply with his party, showing his hatred for President Walker by waving around a sword of bureaucracy capable of keeping the Expedition on hold for at least three months. President Walker backed down, and so the Mission received the legendary Eratosthenes.

The teams arrived on the bridge to see the titanium plate shutters open up across the array of windows. They gazed at the faint dot of yellow-white light, not all that different from Sol when viewed from the same distance back in the Sol System.

"So this is it? The Cybele system. Home sweet home." Stated Staff Sergeant Henry Hayes, servicemember of the Intersystem Alliance Marine Corps and chief of security of the Expedition. All eight members of the science team and eight members of the security team were present as Captain Trevon Corpier entered the bridge from the elevator leading to his cabin. An older man, Captain Corpier served aboard six different vessels before retiring in his late 40s. By age 46, he was back in, first on reserve duties, then returned to full time service with the rank of Captain, a full three ranks higher than what he was when he retired. Instead of giving him command of his own Atlantis or even a Dagger, he gets the Erat. Despite a posting to an old ship, he acted proud of it. Proud of an old ship like this that's lived past it's expiration date.

As the teams got caught up on their objectives, the ship's crew was dealing with an alternate set of problems. Such as why their system-wide scanners were picking up artificial signals from orbit of Harvest.
