For our fathers. For our mothers.
For our sisters. And our brothers.
For the strangers. And the young.
For our elders. And those we love.

This death I dedicate to those who came before.
My sacrifice for those who come after.
No matter the race, the tribe, or tongue.
Under our sun, we will be one.

-A Red Son revolutionary chant moments before opening fire on a BoS convoy, Boston 2267.

Why are you trying to rewatch Naruto

ZOCOM wrote:Why are you trying to rewatch Naruto

Naruto, One Piece, Fairy Tail, and on the smaller side Fururu Metal Alchemist Bruzzahoodo and SAO.

I'm not TRYING to...but I want to. But if I commit to that I won't do anything else for who knows how long, cause I won't WANT to do anything else.

Aaaaaaanyways, finally started on and made a wee bit of progress on the Underworld part of Divinity. Finished Perdition and have started Pitkind: Oh boy, how out of date that stuff was.

Not to mention my own revelations while writing what I have so far in conjunction with what Putnam said before. BIGGEST CHANGE, which I'm saying on the RMB too: Demons harvest and cultivate mortal souls so they can consume them to increase their power. Through consuming enough souls a demon can evolve into a higher caste. Evolution is already a thing that Chthonians do, and with the new clarification surrounding Perditions use for souls it only makes sense that they could evolve too.

What this means is that a black eyed demon, once they consume enough souls (or rather if) would become a red eyed demon. Red becomes yellow which becomes violet, which becomes a white eyed demon. The trick comes in when you consider that the demons in power have all those weaker than them subjugated, and are making these subjugated underlings collect souls for them. If they ever get any souls for themselves it is only supposed to be with the directed permission of whoever is at the top of their local food chain. So for a black eyed demon to gather and collect enough souls to evolve WITHOUT permission, that means they'd have to be stealing and covering up for a whole lot of missing souls that their boss was supposed to be getting.

Naturally demons can still also be created at any caste, so it's not like they all start at the bottom as a black eyed demon and have to work their way up, but any and all demons can try to consume souls in order to eventually evolve into the next caste. The problem is the soul trade is ultimately controlled by those who already have power, so those who don't have to be sneaky about it. And it's not like a handful of souls would do it either, they'd need boatloads to evolve just once. And just like exp leveling in a video game, the higher they get the more they need for the next caste.

Edit: Typos. Also I'm thinking they can utilize cultivated souls for other purposes beyond consumption to make themselves and get closer to evolving. Such as a white eyed demon using the collective raw power of them to make a new plane or even a new demon, with enough properly cultivated souls. After all I feel the raw, unconsumed power of a soul would far exceed what power a demon gets by consuming it, especially when properly cultivated for such a purpose. Not sure what else. Just food for thought.

The difference in letting a soul stew in Perdition and eating it is simple. Eating it is getting a paycheck and spending all of it. Torturing it is investing your paycheck and reaping long term rewards. Eating a soul is quick, but torturing it is a constant source of power forever. Itty bitty amounts compared to Eating it, but that's what a whole plane of the losers is for.

Das some good changes to the demons

How would that even work in context? Is that soul of a particularly messed up individual that its more toxic than the others amongst the sea of losers? Or is the soul prepared a different way? Or if something added to the soul for it to be like that?

The mind boggles at the soul blunt

I figured that the "cultivation" I referred to was actually the torture, like a broken soul does more for them than an unbroken one. So sure they COULD just eat a soul right away but like...why, when the alternative is SOOO much better? Think of it like tenderizing a meat. You can take the meat and cook then eat it, sure, OR you could tenderize the hell out of it. Really make it nice and tender, juicy. So to cultivate souls, to prepare them for their inevitable fate, they torture and torment them in all sorts of ways. Not only does it make it better for their personal consumption, but well...demons. Perdition. Torture. Kinda a package deal. They like to do it. Personal pleasure is a pretty nice bonus. Some are ready quicker than others, all depends on how quickly they break. But even when they break they'll probably still continue getting tortured because why not? Boss ain't hungry yet and he likes the sound of your screams.

Not sure how they'd get power directly from the torture itself unless they were to be able to feed directly off the negative emotions through empathic powers, which doesn't really strike me as a power that suits them. Only other thing I can think of is simply partially consuming the soul but leaving enough left for it to recover and rebuild. No where near as much as consuming the whole soul but they still get something out of it, and again...whole plane of the poor saps.

Too bad he can't steal anything until the fight against the assassin is over outside of time.

I am having a strange desire to do some writing for Felix... I suppose I do need to do some stuff with him, he's the least explored of the main trio of mine so far
