See that's what I thought for the 1st question, but couldn't find evidence of Ballooning being an Olympic sport.

Upon further research, I see where I went wrong. I just followed the links from the Wikipedia home page until landing on the Olympics article. However, most articles don't list Ballooning as a sport from the Olympics. If you scroll all the way down on the 1900s Summer Games page it mentions it was a sport at the World Fair, but apparently not the Olympics themselves. Guess next time I'll just hazard a guess.

Why Vader decided to torch his spaceship. On a side note, John from Villian support is probably one of the only people who can question Vader and not get force-choked.

Indian Empire wrote:..."But the defense has unlimited challenges on jurors"...

With all due respect, I don't believe that is true. I could be wrong. If you have a source you can point to, I'd appreciate it.

Indian Empire wrote:Let's add some information here:

<—SNIP—>

And in Singapore the government canes juvenile and young adult offenders. In the Philippines prostitution with young teens is legal. In Mexico to get anything done, from just crossing the border with camera equipment to shooting a few scenes from a movie, you are expected to the bribe local officials in addition to paying the permit fees. In Hong Kong, dissidents are routinely lost in a chinese legal system that makes the Trump trial look fair.

So what? I damn sure don't care what France is doing. They are fixing to collapse under the weight of their socialist government, so they are not anything anyone should hold up as an example for anything.

What happens in other nations, with differing legal systems, differing standards for election, and what does and does not constitute corruption doesn't matter. Nor can it be used as a yardstick to measure what happens in a constitutional republic like the United States.

Indian Empire wrote:Say what you will about Trump's trial and whether you agree with the evidence leading to his conviction or not.

Ok, I think I will.

—In order to charge the President with any of this the State of New York had to ignore the statute of limitations set in their own law.
—The original charge was basically a parking ticket. We are talking a misdemeanor over a paperwork foul. Through the magic of New York corruption, that one misdemeanor was transmogrified into 34 felonies. That has NEVER been done before in all of US legal history. Not even during the war on the Mafia in the 1960's.
—The New York system of randomly assigning judges was set aside. No one within that court system will explain why Judge Juan Marchan was hand picked to preside.
—Judge Merchan has always been openly hostile to President Trump. He contributed to Biden and the Democrats. That's against New York State rules and regulations for state judges. His daughter is the president and CEO of Authentic Campaigns, a PR firm actively raising money for Democrats based on President Trump's trial. In all the courts across the land even the appearance of bias is reason for the judge to step down. Here we have actual bias and actual financial conflict of interest, yet Judge Mauchin rode out the trial to the end.
—Judge Merchan treated the prosecution as if they were in partnership by the bench in front of the jury. At the same time Judge Merchan's obvious and repeated disdain for, and abuse of the defense was beyond anything witnessed in this nation since the south was trying blacks on bogus race related charges. (Don't drink at the "Whites Only" drinking fountain, among other Jim Crow law offenses.)
—Let's take a look at the blatant violation of the confrontation clause of the Constitution and the Sixth Amendment. Not only was there no accuser, no one was able to name the charge President Trump was charged with. Instead the prosecution threw a complex combination of statutes at the wall to see if anything would stick. (See the Jury instructions next)
—The jury instructions were convoluted and difficult to follow even by lawyers observing the case. No one reading them has agreed on what they meant. Then the judge verbally told the jury they didn't have to come to a unanimous decision on the charges. That is a violation of both the Sixth Amendment and the Fourteenth Amendments as most recently affirmed by the Supremes under Ramos v. Louisiana.
—The way the trial was handled from start to finish flies in the face of the of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution where it guarantees equal treatment under the law. That clause is supposed to guarantee that no matter who you are, rich or poor, saint or sinner, black or white, citizen or immigrant, even an alien from another planet, the wheels of justice will turn exactly the same for you as anyone else of any other description. The fact is that had this been anyone else but President Trump, none of this would have happened.

And that's just what I can think of right now. There is loads more.

Indian Empire wrote:But the defense has unlimited challenges on jurors- a jury of Trump's peers, agreed upon by his own defense team,

That is completely untrue on two levels. The first is that was not a jury of his peers. That was jury drawn from a population that went over 90% for Biden in 2020. Each side is allowed 10 preemptory challenges to potential jurors. The judge may excuse a juror on a whim, costing neither side one of the preemptory challenges. Judge Merchan was really good about kicking people that showed any sign of favoring Trump. Don't even know why the Prosecution bothered to show up.

Indian Empire wrote:and including a juror who got news solely from Trump's Truth Social postings relayed on Twitter, and a juror who watches no news media at all, convicted him.

Yet another untruth. The man did not say that during voir dire. He said nothing about social media being his exclusive source of news and information. It should be noted that following the President doesn't make him a fan. I follow Biden, Schumer, AOC and a few other relevant communists just to keep up on the latest talking points.

Speaking of Social Media, three or four jurors deep into the selection process on the first day two jurors were excused based social media posts about Trump. The judge getting tired of losing prospective jurors (regardless of their bias) said words to the effect of, "We aren't going to do this with every juror." He stopped the defense from inquiring into juror's social media posting.

Indian Empire wrote:But one thing's for sure: we haven't lost our "free nation" card by any means, regardless of how well the conviction holds up in the appeals process.

No lad, that is anything but sure. What that is, is total bunk. Right now the Republic is on life support. One organ vital to this nation's continued survival is diseased and failing. That failure is in the justice branch of our nation.

One of the things that guarantees our freedoms in this nation is a justice system that does not play favorites, and plays within the rules and the Constitution. Without that basic everyone is treated the same basis, the rest of our freedoms collapse. We will be no better than Russia losing their problem children in a puppet court system that does whatever the government says regardless of the law. From the police through the courts, if we start playing favorites, or in this case picking losers, none of us can every be truly free again.

Lastly, if you cannot see the problem with weaponizing the court system against anyone, regardless of who it is, then you are part of the problem. If you are so blinded by your hatred of President Trump that you cannot see how flawed this process was, and if you cannot see the profound implications on everyone else in the nation, I recommend you go back to the people who educated you and get your money back. They left some really important things out.

If I remember right you are a faithful follower of Democratic Socialism and Bernie Sanders. Both of those are unsustainable, both as a political system and as a candidate. But if I am remembering right, that makes you a profound minority in this nation.

Here is something to consider. If the government can railroad a former President, who is rich beyond anything any of us will ever see, and connected like none of us will never be, imagine what they can do to you should your political beliefs ever fall so far from favor as to make you an inconvenience to someone in power.

Darth Kermit wrote:With all due respect, I don't believe that is true. I could be wrong. If you have a source you can point to, I'd appreciate it.

He cannot because it is not true. Each side got 10 preemptory strikes. The defense used all of their challenges. I believe the prosecution had two or three left. The Judge struck most of the people that appeared even remotely friendly to the President. It was freakin' disgusting.

It is not logical, but it is what children do for their mothers.

Yeah, I don't know where the newsletter got their history "facts" from, but corsets were not the super restrictive garment Hollywood makes them out to be.

The federal government runs on paperwork. It is rumored that if the right paper is not properly completed on a daily basis, the world will stop spinning.

It either is started several days in advance or is completed by 1 of 3 people who are the only people trained on it. Then of course you need someone to verify it's done properly
