Friday the 13th

It's Friday the 13th! This date has been associated with bad luck for centuries. Many people believe that this day is cursed and in an almost Halloween-like atmosphere, tell spooky tales about misfortunes that have taken place on this day. The fear of Friday the 13th has been called paraskevidekatriaphobia, from the Greek words Paraskeví (meaning "Friday"), and dekatreís (meaning "thirteen"), and while it may seem like an outdated concept to fear the day, the superstition still lives.

According to some estimations, the world loses $700 to $800 million in revenue on Friday the 13th because people do not want to conduct business. And it's not just that, 80 percent of the high rise buildings reportedly skip the 13th floor and many airports and hospitals skip gate 13 and room 13, respectively. The fear of the number 13 has also been given a scientific name: "triskaidekaphobia."

Several theories have been proposed about the origin of the Friday the 13th superstition. But the one that we like the most is that in numerology the number twelve is considered the number of divine organizational arrangement or chronological completeness, as reflected in the twelve months of the year, twelve hours of the clock day, twelve gods of Olympus, twelve tribes of Israel, twelve Apostles of Jesus, the twelve successors of Muhammad in Shia Islam, twelve signs of the Zodiac, the 12 years of the Buddhist cycle, etc., whereas the number thirteen was considered irregular, transgressing this completeness.

How to celebrate Friday the 13th:

Your Buddy Verner suggests that you should have a Friday the 13th Movie Marathon and invite your family and friends to join you. Nyah ha ha ha! :)

'Friday The 13th' Movie Quotes To Celebrate The Spooky And Unlucky Day

From The 1980 ‘Friday the 13th’ Movie:
“It’s not bad enough to have Friday the 13th, we’ve gotta have a full moon, too. We keep statistics. We have more accidents, more rapes, more robberies, more homicides, more of everything when there’s a full moon. It upsets people. Makes them nuts.” -- Sgt. Tierney (Ronn Carroll)

From The 1981 ‘Friday the 13th Part 2’ Movie:

“I don’t wanna scare anyone, but I’m gonna give it to you straight about Jason. His body was never recovered from the lake after he drowned. And if you listen to the old-timers in town, they’ll tell you he’s still out there, some sort of demented creature, surviving in the wilderness, full grown by now ... stalking ... stealing what he needs, living off wild animals and vegetation. Some folks claim they’ve even seen him, right in this area. The girl that survived the night at Camp Blood, that ... Friday the 13th? She claimed she saw him. She disappeared two months later ... vanished. Blood was everywhere. No one knows what happened to her. Legend has it that Jason saw his mother beheaded that night. Then, he took his revenge, a revenge he continued to seek if anyone ever enters his wilderness again.” -- Paul (John Furey)

From The 1988 ‘Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood’ Movie:

“There’s a legend around here. A killer buried, but NOT dead. A curse on Crystal Lake, a death curse. Jason Voorhees’ curse. They say he died as a boy, but he keeps coming back. Few have seen him and lived. Some have even tried to stop him. NO ONE can.” -- Narrator (Walt Gorney)

From The 1989 ‘Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan’ Movie

“Walking corpses are not real.” -- Charles McCulloch (Peter Mark Richman)

“There was this boy named Jason Voorhees who drowned in Crystal Lake about 30 years ago. None of the counselors heard him. A bunch of years went by, and everyone forgot about it. And that’s when the murders started to happen ... His mother blamed the counselors for her son’s death, and she tried to kill them all, but she got her head chopped off by one of them. Legend has it that Jason came back to get even, vowing to kill every teenager in the area. And every now and then, the murders just start up.” -- Jim Miller (Todd Caldecott)

From The 2009 ‘Friday the 13th’ Movie

[After handing over a hockey stick to Jason.] “Are you looking for this? Because, uh, it completes your outfit” -- Chewie (Aaron Yoo)

“Jason, say ‘Hi’ to Mommy ... In hell.” -- Whitney Miller (Amanda Righetti)

LinkNationaltoday.com and LinkNationaldaycalendar.com had nothing about Friday the 13th. I , Verner, first wrote and posted this on the Texas RMB for Friday the 13th September, 2019. Thereafter, I will be using this info for future Friday the 13ths. Nyah ha ha ha! :)

World Kindness Day

World Kindness Day is an international holiday that was formed in 1998, to promote kindness throughout the world and is observed annually on November 13 as part of the World Kindness Movement. It is observed in many countries including the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia and the U.A.E. World Kindness Day presents us with the opportunity to reflect upon one of the most important and unifying human principles. On a day devoted to the positive potential of both large and small acts of kindness, try to promote and diffuse this crucial quality that brings people of every kind together.

WHEN IS WORLD KINDNESS DAY 2020?
World Kindness Day is celebrated on November 13 every year. It’s an international holiday that is observed in many countries including but not limited to the U.S, Canada, Australia, Italy, and India.

HISTORY OF WORLD KINDNESS DAY
World Kindness Day was first introduced as a day of observation by the World Kindness Movement. In 2019, the organization was registered as an official NGO under Swiss law, but the history of the group stretches back to a Tokyo-based convention in 1997. An array of institutions and associations based in countries including Australia, Thailand, the United States, and the United Kingdom had been assembled at this conference because of their dedication to championing kindness in society. The initial configuration of the World Kindness Movement would form as a result of this event, with the written declaration of their inception stating their “pledge to join together to build a kinder and more compassionate world.” In 1998, in pursuit of this aim, they would facilitate the launch of the inaugural World Kindness Day.

The purpose of World Kindness Day as outlined by the World Kindness Movement is “to highlight good deeds in the community focusing on the positive power and the common thread of kindness which binds us.” Since its creation more than two decades ago, the day has achieved truly global notice; events associated with the day have attracted participants from every inhabited continent. These have included activities such as concerts, dance mobs, and the distribution of “kindness cards.”

While, at present, the day is one of unofficial observance, it remains the hope of the World Kindness Movement to attain official recognition status by the United Nations. Should the group be successful in their efforts, World Kindness Day would join the ranks of recognized days of observance such as International Day of Peace, Human Rights Day, and World Health Day.

RELATED NEWS AND CONTENT
The objective of World Kindness Day is to spread kindness with small gestures. The main tradition of the day is to be kind, and to try and encourage kindness to prevail over hatred. Whether it’s helping out someone with chores, taking the time out to ask how someone is doing, or complimenting someone, the name of the game is kindness, and we all have it in us.

STATS FOR KINDNESS DAY
Start with children

1 in 4 children in the U.S. experience bullying at school on a regular basis. Teaching kids to be kind to everyone, even if they’re different, and to stand up to bullying when they see it, turns them into brave and kind adults.

A day of unity
Though the movement isn’t affiliated with any religion or political movement, over 28 nations participate in this unofficial holiday. The World Kindness Movement is hoping the day will soon get picked up by the UN for it to become an official international holiday.

It pays to be kind
People who are constantly kind produce 23% less cortisol, which is the stress hormone. Because of the lower levels of stress, people who practice kindness age slower than the average population.

WORLD KINDNESS DAY FAQS
What is the purpose of World Kindness Day?

As outlined in the World Kindness Movement’s description of the day, the purpose of World Kindness Day is “to highlight good deeds in the community focusing on the positive power and the common thread of kindness which binds us.”

How did World Kindness Day start?
World Kindness Day started after the formation of the World Kindness Movement. It was their hope and goal to create a day that would help to raise awareness of the importance of kindness as a unifying power between people everywhere.

Where does the word kindness come from?
The word kindness has its roots in the Old English word “kyndnes,” which itself is derived from the Middle English word “kindenes,” meaning “courtesy.”

WORLD KINDNESS DAY ACTIVITIES
Commit at Least Three Random Acts of Kindness Today

Give compliments. Smile at strangers. Hold a door open. Give up your seat on a crowded train. Perform at least three random acts of kindness and see what magic follows!

Give Extra (and Extra-Long) Hugs Today
Kindness and connection go hand-in-hand. Take a few extra minutes to hug your loved ones and friends today. They might wonder what got into you, but they’ll appreciate it nonetheless!

Write a Love Poem to Yourself and Read It out Loud
You should be kind to yourself, today, too. Write a short (or long) poem highlighting the things you appreciate about yourself and your life.

WHY WE LOVE WORLD KINDNESS DAY
Doing Things for Others Is Actually Fun

Many people are focused on their own lives and can forget to take a moment to think about what other people need. Ironically, doing something nice for others isn’t only good for them - it can be good for you, too!

It Offers an Excuse to Get Creative in Your Kindness
Other days of celebration encourage people to take their appreciation of things to the max. World Kindness Day allows for the chance to think of extra-special or unique ways to perform acts of kindness.

Kindness is Important
Celebrating kindness and the benefits we derive from this core aspect of the human condition is valuable. It reminds us that we are neither alone in our lives nor do we live in a world where goodness is not apparent.

Edit: Please pray for me everyone. I suffered a Cardiac Arrest this morning and received a defibrillation shock from my CRT-D (Biventricular Pacemaker and ICD) while I was serenading my Beloved Wife Leia with today's love song. Thankfully my heart resumed beating steadily again almost immediately after being defibrillated without Leia having to perform CPR or calling 911 to get help for me at the time. However, despite the painkillers I took with my heart medication after that, I am still experiencing persistent and worsening chest pain. So we called for an ambulance to take me to the hospital to be checked and receive medical treatment, the ambulance has arrived and I am going to the hospital now. Ack! :(

Vincent's Sunday Surprise Beverage Bonanza

Howdy Dudes and Dudettes of Texas!

Today's Sunday Surprise Beverage is Make - Your - Own - Beverage Day! I've got lots of Large Boxes full of drink making ingredients stacked up right here and I'm going to beam them directly into the home of every Texan in Texas. Everyone will receive a Large Box and it'll materialize on the table closest to you. With all the drink ingredients in your box you can make Pumpkin Spice Protein Shakes, Oreo Milkshakes, White Chocolate Mocha and Salted Caramel Apple Punch. There's enough ingredients to make 3 glasses of each drink. You can keep the Instructional Guide CD as my gift to you:

Make Your Own Beverage Drink Making Guide:

Pumpkin Spice Protein Shake

When blending drinks in your blender always add your ice at the end so it doesn't jam up the blender. Also if you've got alcohol in your house and you desire an alcoholic drink just mix your own booze into the beverages.

And today I've included a large container of a dozen Pumpkin Spice Scones and half a dozen Spiced Pumpkin Pecan Muffins in everyone's boxes too. These slightly soft and melt in your mouth pumpkin scones and Spiced Pumpkin Pecan Muffins combine the beauty of a scone or muffin with the dreaminess of pumpkin spice. Y'all might love them or hate them but there's no denying these scones and muffins are delicious!

I hope y'all enjoy today's Sunday Surprise Snack and Beverages Texans. Yeehaw! :)

Thank you President Trump for putting us back in the manned spaceflight business.

Hi all,

Verner my lord is still being supported by Veno-Arterial ECMO full cardiopulmonary support in the Cardiac ICU. He suffered a Cardiac Arrest during the ambulance ride to the hospital but was successfully resuscitated and defibrillated before arriving at the hospital. However, shortly after arriving at the hospital Emergency Room he went into Cardiac Arrest again. He was put on ECMO to provide cardiopulmonary support while he was being resuscitated and defibrillated and he received the Therapeutic Hypothermia treatment after he was successfully resuscitated. Unfortunately, subsequently he suffered several more Cardiac Arrests due to recurrent and severe cardiac arrhythmia and couldn't be weaned from ECMO support. He has upper body, ambulatory VA-ECMO cannulation and is awake and conscious now but he hasn't been allowed to get out of bed to move about or take an ECMO Walk. He’ll be having his 4th Cardiac Catheter Ablation Procedure today. So please pray for him to have a successful Cardiac Ablation procedure and a fast recovery. Thank you everyone.

Issues Test Bed wrote:Thank you President Trump for putting us back in the manned spaceflight business.

a) Shouldn't you thank Elon Musk & SpaceX instead? It's not like Trump actively increased NASA funding or persued another manned spaceflight outside of what we already do with the ISS.

b) SpaceX isn't a government entity so anything they do isn't the responsibility of the US Government (or Trump for that matter). If NASA did it, THEN thank the government. Otherwise, this is effectively corporate space travel ran by an inane South African rich guy who thinks making electric cars with fart noises is funny.

It was 52 years ago this evening that NBC Television Network executives made a decision that would live in infamy. That decision led to the network droping the Raiders-Jets game in favor of their much publicized made for TV movie Heidi.[1]

Prior to the game, NBC President Julian Goodman ordered that Heidi would start on time.

However, by half time the pace of the game had network executives discussing whether or not the game would run long and whether or not to stay with the game. At 6:45 the decision was made to stay with the game and start Heidi late.

Alas, viewers being inundated with promos for Heidi flooded the NBC switchboard. Some were demanding the game remain, others were demanding Heidi start on time.

The call to delay Heidi in favor of the game never made it to master control. Master control personnel executed their last, highest order. NBC left the game with 1:01 on the clock and the Jets leading 32-29.

In the next minute of play, the Raiders scored a two play touchdown, and then the Raiders recovered a fumbled kickoff and ran it back for another touchdown, ending the game in a 43-32 Raiders win.

And the telephone exchange serving NBC went off line. Frustrated football fans even began calling the police in such numbers as to threaten that telephone exchange as well.

My grandfather and I were among those watching that game. He was not a happy grandpa. Had he not been so frugal, he too would have been calling New York.

The next morning the headline in the Rocky Mountain News read, "Heidi You Like That, Sports Fans?" Monday night NBC publicly apologized on the The Huntley-Brinkley Report.[2] They ran the last minute of the football game as part of the newscast.

The now infamous Heidi game set policies among all the networks and the NFL that are still in place today, 52 years later.
— Master controls all have "Heidi phones" that originate from a different telephone exchange then the home exchange for the network.
— The networks will not dump out of a football game (or most other sporting events) before it is over.
— The NFL put language in future broadcast contracts that guarantees viewers in the home and visiting broadcast areas will see the entire game.

You have to wonder what it was like to be one of those execs desperately trying to call into NBC master as the the opening of Heidi ran on their home TV's.

Incorrect. President Obama ordered the last manned spaceflight programs inside of NASA shut down. Obama made huge cuts in the funding that keeps the Kennedy Space Center up and running, pretty much making sure there would be no more manned flights out of KSC. Hillary had already made noises about taking even more of that budget "for more worthy causes." That is the facility that Space X launches from.

President Trump restored those funds and put a lot of those KSC personnel back to work. The Trump administration made adjustments in contracts to make sure the users of that facility were paying enough to cover government expenses.

Frankly, it sounds like you are Jealous of Elon...

I'll be thinking of your beloved and wishing him the best.

You need support as well. I hope you have kind people to support you. Even if it's by necessity socially distanced by telephone, I hope you have good friends and/or family members with an open ear and open heart.

My best thoughts and all my love.

@Quetzalleia: Leia I'm praying for Verner to get well.
@Fort Verden: Get well soon Verner!

Thanksgiving food poll is up. Apparently, Mac & Cheese is common in some places which is why I included it. I'm sure I left several foods off the list, so there is an 'other' option.

Hey NewTexas I think I found a cousin of Big Tex.

***** Texas Saturday Breakfast *****

Classic Taco Time! Saturday Breakfast In Place time! Bring out the Drones! The NewTexas Happy Taco Stands, in conjunction with the NewTexas Incendiary Corporation, has approximately 1 trillion of the fastest, lightest drones you have ever seen. This fleet is specially designed to deliver tacos to every man, woman, child, whatever, in Texas, all 2,367,766,000,000 of you.

For your dining pleasure, today's special breakfast will Saturday Ham & Egg & Cheese Tacos [COVID-19 Week XXXV Edition]! This is your delicious morning wake-up call Texas! We have been up all night baking hams just so we can dice them up for this delectable ham and egg taco! 100% Texas born and bred piggies plus Grade AA jumbo, free-range, farm-fresh, brown eggs, scrambled to perfection, equals breakfast taco heaven. The super-juicy ham is flash-fried to give it just a hint of browning on the flat top right before they are gently scrambled into the fluffy eggs. These two simple, expertly-prepared ingredients are hand-rolled in a hot, fresh flour tortilla made on the premises multiple times daily. That is all you need right there, but we are going to spice it up to include the Make It Holler kit, which is a cup of freshly roasted green chilis you can add to your taco. And, ham just screams for cheese as do eggs, so we are including a cup of Texas' own Longhorn Jack cheese to boot. For a little fun, there is a special red cup of Habanero Jack if you really want to holler.

Today's Special Salsa is a Texas Two-Fer - Chile Quemado - our fiery roasted salsa made from tomatoes, onions, garlic, and jalapeños roasted fresh on the grill. Additionally, we will include another red cup of - Sweet Mango Habanero Salsa - roasted tomatoes, bell peppers, habanero peppers, jalapeño peppers, mango, and a touch of cilantro and lime juice, only to be tried by the exceptionally brave. The tacos are hermetically-sealed in a Stay-Warm® pouch that is wrapped in the same ol' aluminum foil we are all so familiar with for our breakfast taco. The Juice Bar will not be possible this week. But, for your beverage needs, a packet of Sanka, Tang and a Lipton Tea bag will be included with every delivery as well as salt and pepper and a napkin. Yes, it is different, but it works and you do not even have to leave your residence. Woo! And, watch out for the drones! Start your day off the right way; munch out and go back to sleep. You know you want to!®

Stay Safe Texas. Stay Well.

Update: I got one! :D

Okay, Inaugural College Football Playoff Rankings out and my hometown Cincinnati Bearcats are ranked #7. Whew. We've got a shot at the playoff. Just need to win out and a few losses. Let's see... Clemson, Florida losing isn't that hard, they each have conference championship games left... That leaves someone's Aggies in the way of glory for Cincinnati college football...

Time to root for the Aggies to lose every game from here on out to make sure it happens.

(I'm just going to tag Gig em Aggies because I know that if I don't he'll just show up ranting at me for wanting Texas A&M's demise anyway)
