Looked like Doritos would pull of the win but we ended in a tie. You have 1 day to vote in the runoff election.

**** New WA Resolution Notification *****

There is currently a new Security Council Resolution at vote. When expressing your opinion, please note which Resolution it is for. And remember Texans, your individual vote does count!

The new Resolution is called:
"Repeal: "Liberate Politics Amino"
A resolution to repeal previously passed legislation.

Category: Repeal Resolution: SC#277 Proposed by: Lord Dominator

Security Council Resolution #277 "Liberate Politics Amino" shall be struck out"...

<see the Security Council for full text and to vote>

Commentary: The Security Council wishes to undo the Liberate Politics Amino which was put in place to protect them against invaders. Invaders are gone, time to give the region back to the people. You know the drill. NewTexas will go on record as FOR on this Resolution. This is only the opinion of NewTexas. We look forward to other Texans' opinions and comments on this Resolution. If good arguments to the contrary are made, we will reconsider our position.

The Texas response was down on the last SC vote -- Condemn Darkesia -- which was passed after gaining 87.2% of the vote. As a reminder, all we are looking for is a simple 10% of Texans to say one way or another. We are a force for change in the WA. Every vote counts! There were 2 publicly-expressed opinions on the last Resolution with the final Texas tally running 0 FOR and 2 AGAINST and 0 ABSTAIN and 0 UNDECIDED. Texans were unanimous! Yay!

If you would like to take part in shaping the world you live in, please vote. Voting is a right and a privilege, please consider using it. And, if you are not a member of the World Assembly, we strongly encourage you to join.

All Texas WA Member nations please vote. Please make your Texan opinions known in Texas by 11:00 PM Tuesday and in the World Assembly voting booth by 11:00 PM Texas Time on Wednesday the 8th. Current voting in The World is running - Votes FOR: 9779 Votes AGAINST: 3014

Big Tex

PS: Remember, be sure to vote at the World Assembly too!

Ladies and Gentlemen of Texas,

Today, May 11, 2019 is National Eat What You Want Day!

Restricting yourself from your favorite foods can be difficult. That is why, on May 11, we celebrate National Eat What You Want Day! On this day, people are encouraged to treat themselves by giving in to their sweet tooth, carb-loading without having a marathon to run, and eating breakfast for dinner. Because on Eat What You Want Day, no one can tell you what NOT to eat.

Full Ranking of Foods Americans Would Eat Everyday If They Did Not Have To Worry About The Consequences

#1: Pizza (13%)
#2: Pasta (12%)
#3: Burgers (11%)
#4: Ice cream (11%)
#5: Tacos or burritos (9%)
#6: Chocolate (9%)
#7: French fries (9%)
#8: Donuts (7%)
#9: Cake (6%)
#10: Chips (5%)
#11: Cheese (4%)
#12: Cookies (4%)

1. Have breakfast for dinner

One thing that people always seem to seek permission for is having breakfast for dinner. Take the freedom to choose and have a fluffy stack of pancakes with a side of bacon before bedtime. You may throw off your taste buds, but your stomach will be happy.

2. Break the routine

If you normally pack a lunch for school/work, leave the brown paper bag at home. Instead, invite your coworkers out for lunch and try a new restaurant in the area. You will enjoy the company and the break from the same old sandwich.

3. Get the kids involved

Parents are mainly in charge of selecting what's for dinner. Eat What you Want Day is an opportunity for the kids to decide what will be on tonight's menu, and creates an opportunity for them to help out with the meal.

1. The freedom to choose

Everyone seems to be so wrapped up in counting calories and restricting themselves from consuming certain foods. On Eat What You Want Day, you have the freedom to choose what to eat without feeling guilty about it.

2. There might be something we have been wanting to try

For many people, cheat days may not be a frequent occurrence for our eating habits. Going out to dinners and drinks with friends stop us from trying the newest dish or drink on the menu. Today you're allowed to taste those specials that you may have been holding off on.

3. It takes away structure

Many people plan their days out to include exactly what time and what type of food they will be eating. Eat What You Want Day frees up your schedule and allows you to be spontaneous, adding excitement to your day.

***** Texas Saturday Breakfast *****

Okey Dokey Texas! We have a request from our favorite convalescing Texan for, <dun, dun, dun>, Saturday "Eat What You Want Day" Breakfast! Man, that is some wide open breakfast there! We will endeavor to satisfy your every wish. We will start with Verner's request that may be your request as well. It is the Lamb Chop & Egg Platter! Choose between 2 thin-sliced, flash-fried sirloin chops with a beautiful sear or 2 thick loin chops grilled to order! Woo! Add 3 eggs cooked your way™, hashbrowns and a big ol' piece of Texas Toast and you have yourself one stellar breakfast! Enjoy Verner! Our researchers did their surveys to make sure we are prepared for the most-requested foods. Coming in at #1 was Pizza, surprise, surprise! So, we have a fine selection of breakfast pizzas we are offering up - South of the Border Breakfast Pizza or Country Breakfast Pizza. The SotB version is a big burrito-sized tortilla smeared with a thin layer of refried beans, add some gently-scrambled eggs, sprinkle with super-crispy bacon, topped with plenty of grated Longhorn-Jack cheese, baked to crispy yummy perfection, sliced, and served with salsa. The Country version consists of giant biscuit, halved and topped with a generous amount of sawmill gravy, crumbled sausage and topped off with Monterrey Jack. Mmm! The second most popular food peeps would eat every day is pasta. As a breakfast pasta offering, we will be serving up Carbonara with spaghetti noodles, eggs, bacon, and Parmesan cheese. Colazione! Burgers come in #3 and we have them any which way you can! Make your own Dream Burger request and we will fulfill it. We even have extra cows out back, just in case. Coming in #4 for what everyone would eat every day is ice cream. Our breakfast version comes with a scoop of vanilla resting on a Krispy Kreme donut topped with sprinkles and a scoop of chocolate sitting on a chocolate-covered Krispy Kreme topped off with chocolate sauce. Roll your eyes back in your head and order it! And, rounding out the Top Five is, drumroll please, Tacos! Oh Yeah! Rest assured that we have absolutely all your breakfast taco needs covered. We will start endless breakfast tacos for the next untold weeks, but you can get any of them that you want today, including, <dun, dun, dun>, the El Fregadero Taco de Desayuno - this mammoth breakfast taco has everything in it including the kitchen sink! It starts with a full 12" handmade flour tortilla smeared with refried beans, topped with Texas farm-fresh, hand-picked, hen-house, Grade A, golden yellow scrambled eggs, crumbled, spicy in-house-made chorizo, ultra-crispy bacon, shredded Longhorn Jack cheese, an entire half of perfectly ripened avocados, a small scoop of Spanish rice, all topped off with ooey-gooey jalapeño queso and your choice of salsa, all made just for you! That is just a small sampling of our offering for Eat What You Want Day. Request your heart's desire and we will make it just for you! The Juice Bar is open with only the standard juices - Orange, Apple, Grapefruit and Tomato. For today's funky one, that is not so funky here in Texas, we have the Michelada - Tomato Juice, hot sauce, lime, plenty of spices and Lone Star beer! Try "The Suicide" - all of them, in one glass - we dare you! It doesn't get much better than this! Start your day off the right way; munch out and go back to sleep. Of course, The Never Ending Urn of Coffee is full and ready to help you wash it all down. Come on down and start your day right Texas. You know you want to!®

***** Texas Chat Reminder *****

The Texas Weekly Chat Session will be Saturday (TODAY) at High Noon Texas Time (CDT) ***Saturday***. And, if you can't be there right at Noon, that is Ok, Texas Chat usually runs 3, 4, 5 hours with some Chats running as high as 7 or 8 hours.

The Texas Chat Site is here: http://texasregion.net/blab70/login.php

Please register with your nation name. This is a great opportunity for nations old and new to Texas to find out what is going on! We chat, we debate, we talk about the weather, we talk about stuff we like, stuff we hate, random stuff and more stuff. But, it is never stuffy. Usually, it is about meeting your fellow Texans and talking about the latest and most interesting stuff in NationStates at the moment. But then again, sometimes NationStates does not even come up. It is wide-open chatting with peeps from around The World both IRL and NS. It is Texans, EuroTexans, WannabeTexans, ex-Texans, and plenty of Friends of Texans. We have it all and all are welcome. Texas Chat, 738 weeks and running! For the math-challenged, that is over 14½ years! Check it out! Good stuff!

Ladies and Gentlemen of Texas,

Today, May 12, 2019 is Mother’s Day!

On May 9, 1914, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Mother’s Day a national holiday to be held on the second Sunday of May. Mother's Day is a celebration honoring the mother of the family, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society.

Mother’s Day is an inclusive celebration. Maybe the woman who gave birth to you is not with you now - but it’s a good bet that there are other strong, influential women in your life. Mother figures come in many shapes, so do not take Mother’s Day too literally. Say thank you to any or all of the women you know who work hard and love others, since that is essentially what mothering is all about.

Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms and Mother Figures in Texas!

Mother’s Day History

Mother’s Day has been celebrated around the world since, well, since motherhood. Celebrations go back to ancient times when Greeks and Romans held festivals in honor of the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele. However, the early Christian festival known as “Mothering Sunday stands as the modern precursor. This European tradition fell on the fourth Sunday in Lent. Many believed the faithful would return on this day to their “mother church”— the main church near their home — for a special service. The Mothering Sunday tradition shifted over time into a more secular holiday where children would give their mothers flowers and other gifts. This custom would blend into the American Mother’s Day in the 1930s and 1940s.

In the United States, American author and poet Julia Ward Howe, who wrote “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” became the editor of Woman’s Journal, a widely-read suffragist magazine, in 1872. She inspired the first movement toward a national Mother’s Day during the Civil War. Appealing to the public for a “Mother’s Day for Peace” after witnessing the devastation left by war, Howe went on an international crusade. During that time, she wrote an “Appeal to womanhood throughout the world,” which would become known as the Mother’s Day Proclamation. The document asked women to fight for world peace following both the Civil War and the Franco-Prussian War. While her efforts never gained formal recognition for an official observance, she was acknowledged posthumously in 1988 for her achievements and her efforts for women’s rights. Howe then launched a failed attempted to start a “Mother’s Day” celebration on June 2. Two decades later Howe suggested a Mother’s Day celebration every July 4. This also failed to take hold, but set the stage for a future attempt.

It was in 1905 when Mother’s Day was finally introduced successfully by Anna Jarvis, the daughter of Ann Marie Reeves Jarvis who had followed Howe’s campaign and had pursued her own volunteer efforts during the Civil War. Her mother died May 9, 1905, and she missed her greatly.

Anna Jarvis successfully initiated Mother’s Day after her mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis, died on May 9, 1905. The daughter of Ann Marie Reeves Jarvis she had followed Howe’s campaign and had pursued her own volunteer efforts during the Civil War. Jarvis noted that Mother’s Day should contain a “singular possessive,” (hence the apostrophe) so each family might honor its own mother - as opposed to all mothers. Jarvis, who neither married nor had children, organized the first official Mother’s Day celebration in May 1908. A Philadelphia department store owner named John Wanamaker lent his financial support to the cause. That same month thousands of people attended a Mother’s Day event at one of Wanamaker’s stores. She started a dedicated letter-writing campaign to declare an official Mother’s Day. Through Andrews Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia, the first Mother’s Day was observed on May 10, 1908.

The modern holiday of Mother's Day was first celebrated in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother at St Andrew's Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia. St Andrew's Methodist Church now holds the International Mother's Day Shrine. This day, to honor Anna Jarvis’s mother, grew into a National Observance until in 1911 when every state participated. Soon it was spreading internationally, and on May 9, 1914, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Mother’s Day a national holiday to be held on the second Sunday of May.

Mother's Day Activities

1. Togetherness

Ever notice how your mom always says she does not want expensive presents? Believe her. She just wants to spend some time with you (yes, it is a cliché, but that does not make it any less true). So, take a hike or plan a picnic. Help her in the garden or hit the town. Even if it’s no more creative than a big bowl of popcorn and a movie marathon, your Mom will enjoy the Quality Time more than any tangible present.

2. Treat her

Take her out. Find an amazing restaurant and treat Mom to a mimosa or three. Planning on taking her out later? The sky’s the limit for lunch and dinner options. Plan ahead. Make a reservation. Remember, you are an adult now.

3. Listen up

Listening is an act of love. So, with that in mind, take a break from talking about your own problems and listen to her talk about her life, her dreams, or her favorite memories. If you have siblings, get the family together and tell stories!

4a. Here are some ways to honor Mom without giving in to commercial pressure:

Cook her a meal
Mom has, no doubt, made us countless meals over the years. Let’s return the favor.

Work on the family tree
What better way to ensure the memory of your mother lives forever than to make sure it is well documented?

Family photo shoot
Mom would love to have up-to-date photos of her loved ones to show off.

Run errands for Mom
Does mom need groceries? How about a new tank of gas?

Get crafty
Surely, there’s a DIY project with your name on it.

Go strawberry picking
The juicy gems are in season right now and there’s a good chance you’re close enough to a farm to make a day out of it.

Workout together
Get your sweat on. It’s about spending time together.

Go gardening
Spend the day potting, planting and pruning.

Tell her you love her
It does not cost anything, but it probably means the most.

4b. There’s also no shame in spending money on Mom. Here are some ideas:

Buy a Gift for your Mom
Hit up her favorite stores and buy her something nice.

Go see a movie
Let mom pick the film and the snacks.

Buy her flowers
It may seem cliche, but she probably has the perfect spot for them.

Treat your Mom to a Spa Day
There’s nothing quite like a little pampering.

What are some popular Mother’s Day flowers

Roses
Lilies
Orchids
Hydrangeas
Tulips
Carnations
Daisies

The Spiritual Influence Of A Mother
An attempt to celebrate and honor motherhood and the role they play in all our lives.

The hand that rocks the cradle
also makes the house a home.
It is the prayers of the mother
that keeps the family strong.

Mother rises early in the morning
and bathes her day in prayer.
She talks to God about her family
and places them in His care.

Mother communicates her love
in a thousand different ways.
When there's a need, she is there,
whether it is night or day.

Mother seasons life with love
and gives so much of herself.
God placed in her the best He had
and made her unlike anyone else.

When challenges come our way
and when trials block our view,
Mother kneels down beside her bed
and prays the family through.

Mother is God's special creation.
She is a light shining in the dark,
illuminating the path for her family
and pointing them toward God.

Okay Dude. But Dude, I googled "C-Rations were more dangerous than landmines." and found this:
Survival Lessons from Army C-Rations

Some soldiers like the person who wrote this article liked the C-Rations so how were C-Rations more dangerous than landmines?

Vincent

I think troops have been complaining about military rations since the first war. It's a tradition.

Our friends in 10K Islands have broken the tie. Cool Ranch Doritos put up a good fight but lost to the versatile Tortilla Chip. I will post the full bracket tomorrow.

I now take a break from Poll Master and turn over control to the TRC.

My apologies to everyone for jumping the gun and starting a new poll without discussing with the TRC as to who should go next but this is quite interesting:

Ladies and Gentlemen of Texas,

We have a piece of interesting news for this week’s discussion and it is connected to the poll which I have started:

Senate bill would ban paid loot boxes in games aimed at kids
The proposed law would also fight pay-to-win game mechanics.

Senator Josh Hawley (Republican - Missouri) has introduced a bill, the “Protecting Children from Abusive Games Act”, that would bar games from including paid loot boxes, pay-to-win mechanics and other potentially exploitative elements in games that are either aimed at kids under 18 or knowingly let those children make microtransactions. These practices spur "compulsive habits," Hawley said, and developers shouldn't be permitted to "monetize addiction."

Hawley's declaration is the most serious sign of federal action on randomized loot boxes since they became a somewhat notable political issue in late 2017. Senator Maggie Hassan (Democrat-New Hampshire) called for an industry review of loot box practices over a year ago but stopped short of introducing any legislation. Hassan also took the issue up with the FTC, which announced in February that it would convene a public workshop on the issue later this year.

The Protecting Children from Abusive Games Act

Senator Hawley’s legislation would apply new consumer protections to games played by minors including:

• Games targeted at those under the age of 18.
• This would be determined by subject matter, visual content, and other indicators
similar to those used to determine applicability of the Children’s Online Privacy
Protection Act (COPPA)
• Games with wider audiences whose developers knowingly allow minor players to
engage in microtransactions

In such games, this bill would prohibit several forms of
manipulative design:

Loot Boxes
• Microtransactions offering randomized or partially randomized rewards to players

Pay-to-Win
• Manipulation of a game’s progression system – typically by building artificial difficulty
or other barriers into game progression – to induce players to spend money on
microtransactions to advance through content supposedly available to them at no
additional cost
• Pay-to-win - Manipulation of the competitive balance between players of multiplayer
games by allowing players who purchase microtransactions competitive advantages
over other players

Enforcement
• These rules would be enforced by the Federal Trade Commission, which would treat
the distribution of such games by publishers and online distributors as an unfair trade
practice.
• State attorneys general would also be empowered to file suit to defend the residents
of their states.

No apologies needed. If you have a poll idea, go for it. As far as I'm concerned, it's first come first serve.

Some soldiers like the person who wrote this article liked the C-Rations so how were C-Rations more dangerous than landmines?

Some people like raw snails and undercooked eggs. Others can eat raw hamburger with no ill effects. Go figure. The rations I tried were only slightly more appetizing then warm vomit.

But to tell the truth, the statement was more tongue in cheek than reality.
