a flying turtle slowly flies over Texas

Hey guys -

The World Arts Fair is coming up really quickly! Please check out this dispatch and join us in a few days by submitting your artwork, judging a category, or just by being present and supporting the fair. Hope to see you there!

NationStates World Arts Fair
Winter 2018 - January 26-29

It's that time of year again! Bring on your creativity and enthusiasm because the World Arts Fair is back in town. Last fall, we had a great turn out, with nations from all over NS joining in to share artwork and writing, even some musical compositions. We had lots of spectators who joined in to support our artists and it was a success. Here's to hoping that this year is even greater and richer than last year.

There are many ways for you to get involved...

Be a Volunteer
Volunteers of all kinds are needed to pull off this kind of event, so please share your talents with us! The assignments range from forum administration to dispatch writer. Whatever your skill, offer it up if you've got the time to spare. Link Sign up here.

Have Your Region Host the Fair
Hosting the fair has its benefits and perks. As host, nations essentially curate their very own version of the fair, under the supervision of the RIA cultural branch. This kind of event gathers many members from all over the NS world and can spread the word about what fantastic things your region is doing. We want your take on what the World Arts Fair should be, so don't forget to Link sign up to host! - The South Pacific will be hosting this winter's fair.

Submit Your Work
Unmistakably, the fair wouldn't operate precisely if we didn't have artists to submit their artwork, songs, and words. So we need your help to celebrate culture in this festival. Send in your photographs, musical compositions, poems, short stories, pottery works and anything else you can think to share with the NS community. We are here to celebrate all the diversity and creativity around us, so please Linkshare your work even if you don't want to be judged!

Each category (visual arts, performance, writing) will be judged separately, with its own panel of three judges. You may choose what you share with the community for panel review or simply to get your work out there to others.

Be a Judge
Have you always wanted to be the Simon Cowell of the group, or are you more of the Paula Abdul type judge? All are welcome to Link submit a request to be considered for arbitration roles. You will converse and confer with other judges to decide the winners of each category. However, please note, not all requests will be granted - don't take anything personally. :)

All the World's a Stage
Performance - January 26, 2018
Show us what you've got! Sing us your songs, share your screenplays, bring a composition or arrangement to life. Submit all your performance based entries and join the LinkWAF Discord Server to participate in a karaoke contest!

Worth a Thousand Words
Visual Arts - January 27, 2018
All visual arts are shared here: photographs, paintings, drawings, pictures of sculptures, and anything else that you might have. On this day, we'll be playing Link Draw This to celebrate the skill and talent all of you artistically inclined people have.

The Mighty Pen
Writing - January 28, 2018
Many of you have the gift of writing and creating worlds with your words - we'd love for you to share some of your work! Whether it's prose, poetry, non-fiction, it doesn't matter. All forms of writing are celebrated here, and this year, we added a fan-fiction category. The daily event is to be determined.

Awards Ceremony
January 29, 2018
The judges will convene and decide which winners will reign until the next fair. Join us on this day to celebrate and cherish all the wonderful work each of our artists have done. Celebratory games of Cards Against Humanity, and the NationStates version, will break out throughout the day.

***** Texas Saturday Breakfast *****

Oh Yeah, it is Saturday Breakfast time again and today is Gritsapalooza! We have some of the finest coarsely-ground corn the Lone Star State has to offer for you today. We will start with Super Cheesy Grits - a volcano of creamy grits cooked to perfection with pure Texas Spring Water and freshly-squeezed and churned creamery cream and a boatload of extra-sharp yellow Cheddar cheese with a touch of garlic and a healthy pinch of cayenne, mounded into a volcano filled with butter! Woo! You could stop right there and be totally satisfied. But, no, we have more. We have Bacon Grits, a yummy combo of almost 50-50 grits and bacon topped off with more super crispy bacon for the bacon-lover in you. Want something a little more upscale for your humble grits? Can do! We will be serving Grits with Parmesan and Prosciutto to give a little Italian flair to your breakfast. Don't want grits in a bowl or piled high? Not a prob. We will be offering up Texas-shaped fried grit cakes where we cook the grits, spread them out on a cookie sheet, cool them down, cut out Texas shapes and fry them up to a crispy golden brown in pure Texas butter. That calls for another Woo! For those on the healthy diet, we can whip up a bowl of a plain ol' porridge of grits, but it should be a dish of last resort especially when there are so many better ways of having them. Our buddy, the God Emperor Vlad (R.I.P.), substitutes olive oil for butter for a heart-healthy version and we will be offering that option for you too. To wash all these great grits down, we will open up The Juice Bar with all the standard juices - Orange, Apple, Grapefruit, and Tomato. This week's funky stuff will be Carbonated Watermelon Water! Try "The Suicide" - all the juices, in one glass - we dare you! It doesn't get much better than this! Start your day off the right way; munch out and go back to sleep. Of course, The Never Ending Urn of Coffee is full and ready to help you wash it all down. Texas coffee doesn't get much better. Enjoy Texas! You know you want to!

***** Texas Chat Reminder *****

The Texas Weekly Chat Session will be Saturday (TODAY) at High Noon Texas Time (CDT) ***Saturday***. And, if you can't be there right at Noon, that is Ok, Texas Chat usually runs 3, 4, 5 hours with some Chats running as high as 7 or 8 hours. The current record is a marathon fifteen hours forty-nine minutes starting on April 1, 2017, and ending on April 2, 2017.

The Texas Chat Site is here: http://texasregion.net/blab70/login.php

Please register with your nation name. This is a great opportunity for nations old and new to Texas to find out what is going on! We chat, we debate, we talk about the weather, we talk about stuff we like, stuff we hate, random stuff and more stuff. But, it is never stuffy. Usually, it is about meeting your fellow Texans and talking about the latest and most interesting stuff in NationStates at the moment. But then again, sometimes NationStates does not even come up. It is wide-open chatting with peeps from around The World both IRL and NS. It is Texans, EuroTexans, WannabeTexans, ex-Texans, and plenty of Friends of Texans. We have it all and all are welcome. Texas Chat, 673 weeks and running! For the math-challenged, that is over 13 years! Check it out! Good stuff!

That may be more plausible with Brady hurting his throwing hand in practice. Before that, I wouldn't have had much confidence in a throwing match between Bortles and Brady.

I'm rooting for the Jaguars. I think they definitely have a shot, especially if all this thumb stuff is true....

Sorry for leaving chat so suddenly. I actually had something to do for Uncle Sam but with little notice.

I'm hoping your a Vikings fan otherwise we my just have our self a little Texas Two step if you catch my drift.

Put drugs in the water supply at request of the Church. Somehow that legalizes human sacrifice.

Not really a fan of either one. However I am a fan of getting paid.

Not to worry, we are less than five minutes in and the Vikings are already familiar with the end zone.

Yeah now i still want the Vikings but really I don't care who wins as long as they can screw over the patriots. Dammit Jacksonville you had one job one job!!!!

Issues Test Bed wrote:Not to worry, we are less than five minutes in and the Vikings are already familiar with the end zone.

Unless the Eagles keep doing that and the Vikings keep letting it happen. That run is going to make the highlight reels.

17 minutes later...

And that...

15 minutes after that...

Or that. You can start worrying now.

And seven minutes after that last one...

Yes, definitely start worrying.

Burn baby burn cause that's what's happening to the Vikings right now with them being 7-31 w/21.21 minutes left in the game

Make that 38-7 with 14:10 left in the game.

Members of the crew local to Philly inform me the Eagles are really hard to beat at home. I would think the sports prognosticators would have learned from their errors in trying to guess last weekend's game here.

The Vikings playing the super bowl in there home stadium would have been a nice storyline, but I'm fine with the Eagles winning.

Best part of the game so far: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-uAbrQC08Y

Stick a fork in them. That interception pretty much carved it in stone.

Was the a reference to the lie that was the Vikings would win or that was just a commercial that came on during the game?

Another awesome episode of Trek! Looking forward to the final episodes of the season.

**** New WA Resolution Notification *****

There is currently a new Security Council Resolution at vote. When expressing your opinion, please note which Resolution it is for. And remember Texans, your individual vote does count!

The new Resolution is called:
"Liberate Iran
A resolution to strike down Delegate-imposed barriers to free entry in a region.

Noting Iran has a treasured history that is"...

<see the Security Council for full text and to vote>

Synopsis: The Security Council attempts to show compassion to the peoples of the region of Iran, who have been abused by predator nations for years. Not pretty. Two Stars. NewTexas will go on record as FOR on this Resolution. This is only the opinion of NewTexas. We look forward to other Texans' opinions and comments on this Resolution. If good arguments to the contrary are made, we will reconsider our position.

The Texas response was up on the last SC vote -- Commend The MT Army -- which was passed after gaining 55.1% of the vote. As a reminder, all we are looking for is a simple 10% of Texans to say one way or another. We are a force for change in the WA. Every vote counts! There were 6 publicly-expressed opinions on the last Resolution with the final Texas tally running 0 FOR and 6 AGAINST and 0 ABSTAIN and 0 UNDECIDED. Texans were unanimous! Yay!

If you would like to take part in shaping the world you live in, please vote. Voting is a right and a privilege, please consider using it. And, if you are not a member of the World Assembly, we strongly encourage you to join.

All Texas WA Member nations please vote. Please make your Texan opinions known in Texas by 11:00 PM Thursday and in the World Assembly voting booth by 11:00 PM Texas Time on Friday the 26th. Current voting in The World is running - Votes FOR: 11381 Votes AGAINST: 975

Big Tex

PS: Remember, be sure to vote at the World Assembly too!

Major news from the nation of Safj. A milestone of epic proportions has been reached. The life expectancy of the average Safjian has climbed to an incredible 100 years of age. Only a very few nations have ever joined this exclusive club. This is truly a day to remember in world history and in Safj.
