Do you really think that if you drive a mere 200km north, abuelitas stop making carne guisada, tortillas de maiz and chile quemado and just buy Taco Bell instead? We will put up our Big Tex Happy Taco Stands Carne Guisada against yours anytime and we will even let you pick the judges for a blind taste test. íTacos autÚnticos, verdad!

Perhaps you underestimate the Mexican influence on Texas or the entire United States for that matter. Fifty years ago, we imagine interior states like Tennessee or Nebraska or Indiana had never even seen a Mexican American. These days, not only are there Taquerias in Memphis and Lincoln and Indianapolis, there are Carnicerias as well. Yep, cow heads, right there in the store. Can we make you a Barbacoa Taco Empress?

I do know there's a strong influence from Mexico in the southern states, after all, they were part of Mexico. I was just trying to be funny, and throw a little shade at Taco Bell

Now that there's an "Ocean Noise Reduction" Resolution (which, as an ocean lover, I'm strongly in favor of) making the rounds at the WA General Assembly, I believe it is time to propose a bill that will forbid shark finning

Since my nation doesn't eat shark fins I wouldn't care either way.

This is the Foreign Service of the Bears Armed Broadcasting Corporation.
In the news tonight:

1/ The International Democratic Union seeks an exchange of embassies with Texas, not just 'in-game' (as you can see in the 'Regional Happenings' list above) but also through the regional forums (with a request having been posted in Texas's forum a couple of days ago...).

2/. The IDU's second International Film Festival will open on Saturday, and includes a 'Best non-IDU Film' category for which films from nations in [e.g.] Texas would be eligible. Any nation submitting an entry to any category in this festival will be entitled to vote in all of the categories. Further details @ http://s10.zetaboards.com/IDU/single/?p=10000492&t=9034208 .

OOC: Any attempt at a GA resolution against shark-finning could really only forbid the practice in international waters (and, even then, couldn't affect the actions of non-WA nations there), because the member nations' rights to control hunting & fishing [of non-endangered stocks] within their own territories & territorial waters themselves are confirmed by two existing resolutions.

<see the General Assembly for full text and to vote>

Synopsis: The General Assembly attempts to be nice to nature by silencing or punishing noisy boats. Two Stars. NewTexas will go on record as FOR on this Resolution. This is only the opinion of NewTexas. We look forward to other Texans' opinions and comments on this Resolution. If good arguments to the contrary are made, we will reconsider our position.

The Texas response was down on the last GA vote -- Ban on Secret Treaties -- which was passed after gaining 61.4% of the vote. I've been reading the Ocean Noise Reduction resolution, and I just realized that it forgot to mention that ocean noise also affects marine mammals, as it interferes with their echolocation. Either way, I'm still in favor of this resolution, because I would love to make the ocean a better place

***** Texas Saturday Breakfast *****

Oh Boy! Today, The Big Tex Happy Taco Stands is proud to present The Monkey Brain Taco! This oddly-named taco is truly a behemoth and quite possibly the tastiest taco ever offered by The Big Tex Happy Taco Stands of NewTexas. Legal Disclaimer: no monkey parts are involved. We start with an enormous burrito-sized tortilla, hand-made onsite, and load it up Carne Guisada, a Mexican-style pot roast of gravy and exceptionally-tender shreds and chunks of beef, braised for hours. We then pile on fresh, homemade, spicy Guacamole, made from Texas-grown avocados, creamy Sour Cream, the always-fresh Pico de Gallo, a splash of Roasted Salsa and top it all off with delicious, mild Longhorn Cheddar Cheese! This taco is quite the spectacle. "Don't look inside it, just eat it!" (If you do, you will understand the name.) No offense to our friends over in Monkey Island! Since we cannot think of a single juice that goes with this monster, there is No Juice Bar today. Start your day off the right way; munch out and go back to sleep. Of course, The Never Ending Urn of Coffee is full and ready to help you wash it all down. Come on down and start your day right Texas. You know you want to!«

Indian Empire wrote:Wouldn't shock me. Probably down to them or Oklahoma State...

I was shocked Oklahoma fell to Iowa State and their 3rd string QB. Not really sure what it means. Their game against UT this weekend will be huge. I'm not sold on UT being good, but I think we'll find out how good both teams are on Saturday, IMO.

All I know for sure is that there's too many games left for TCU to feel good about anything other than a 5-0 start. Still have games in Norman, Lubbock, and Ames, even if we survive a visit to Manhattan this weekend.
