I took a look at their region recently, and it seemed odd that Refugia would have an embassy with a region like that. So, even though I can't vote, I'd like to say that closure is a good call.

Disappointed I wasn't first on the vote. Maybe next time.

Full support, obvs.

Hello

I already supped, thank you very much. I had fish n' chips, and then some cheese. How was your own Dinner (or Luncheon), sir? Did you (or will you be) celebrating Thanksgiving? (I don't since I'm on the other side of the Atlantic).

Quick question, why do you address everyone as sir?

Sylh Alanor wrote:Quick question, why do you address everyone as sir?

Because that's how I was taught to politely address others. It is not intended to presume gender, just to convey politeness. In the army, a female officer is addressed as "sir," too.

Outside of that context, if very much presumes gender. I don't mean to chide, I promise, but given the high number of women and enbies in our community, it might not come across well.

Sorry, sir Ma'am. I'll try to avoid gender-specific titles when unsure, in future.

Thank you, and I'm sorry again 😅

Not in real life. And my wife and mother are retired military.

Ok, I'll try to avoid it in future.

Good afternoon friends!! I hope all you gentleman and ladies and enbies and whoever you wanna be have an absolutely spectacular thanksgiving, or just a spectacular day if you prefer that. Remember that you’re all wonderful people, worthy of all the love in the world. You guys can do amazing amazing things, I’ve seen some of those things myself. So make sure to acknowledge that you’re special and important, today and everyday. And for thanksgiving, I’m thankful for each and every one of ya’ll and the community you’ve helped to create, the home you’ve helped to build. I know I haven’t been round these parts long, but I hope to be around for a long time more.

Aaaanyway, sappy speeches and love aside, I’ve just had myself a refreshing glass of Sprite Cranberry, what are ya’ll having today? ^-^

Miksii wrote:Aah okay, I will try and remember this and try to be as gender-neutral as I can when talking to people here. :)

It's lovely to meet you by the way <3

We don't celebrate Thanksgiving today in Canada either, so I'll probably just make normal food.

Yeah I heared it was on 2 different dates. Came in handy in a trivia quiz once.

Normal food? So on Thanksgiving as opposed to normal you make abnormal food? ;)

I try to prepare only curses on Thanksgiving, it's true. Gotta hex out the bad vibes!

hey guys...cheeseburgers are illegal in Atrilia... now we have to resort to green burgers made of either cultivated meat or fish and i don't like fish ;[ and there is no black market to buy cheeseburgers either in atrilia...

Alrighty, this one's a little late because I really didn't think it was going to go up for vote yesterday (it still hadn't reached quorum an hour before update) and also I just think it's really bad, lol.

Land Reclamation Regulation:
Proposal: page=ga
Thread: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=491698

Uh, as I said before, I really don't like it. There are two things that make me automatically dislike a bill. The first thing is when someone creates or reuses an existing organisation or department just to offload all responsibility onto that (for example, creating a department that sets regulations so that you don't have to do that work yourself in the bill). The second is limiting your proposal by relying on the best possible reading or intentions of everyone involved. Bills regulating expansion and development to protect the economy should understand they're forcing nations who don't want to do that sort of thing, to do that sort of thing. So here are some quotes from the proposal:

wrote:Mandates thats a good faith effort to obtain and apply materials that cause as little environmental damage as possible for the physical stage of land reclamation must be made, unless obtaining those materials is incredibly infeasible or costly, in which case the best possible alternative must be used;

Cool, so any nation who doesn't want to do this can just say it's infeasible. Also what is "a good faith effort" and "as little environmental damage as possible" and how are those vague terms going to be enforced?

wrote:Clarifies that if the potential damage caused can and will be mitigated to a reasonable level, the land reclamation project may proceed;

What is a reasonable level?

After this, we get into the usage of a previously-established organisation within the World Assembly, the EWSA (hey, that looks familiar :P). The ESWA is tasked with issuing permits to land reclamation projects that would otherwise violate the proposal only if:

wrote:not proceeding with land reclamation will severely imperil the health of a nation’s population; or

not proceeding with land reclamation will cause greater environmental damage than doing so;

I'm sure the pattern I'm drawing is clear. These also are not figures or numbers, they're relative limiter statements. What counts as "severely imperiling the health of a nation's population"? Is this saying that, if not expanding into the ocean means people are stuffed into the city, that such a path should be taken instead of expanding the city further out in the other direction? Can anyone just make a claim that oh no, they've totally checked into other possibilities?

Also what kind of environmental damage is going to be caused by not expanding into the ocean and harming marine ecosystems? Can we get some examples?

wrote:Mandates that land reclamation projects that are issued permits as a result of clause 5a must cause as little environmental damage as feasible, and prohibits land reclamation projects from proceeding if they are denied a permit by the ESWA.

Again, "as little environmental damage as feasible" means nothing. It's a completely nothing phrase that anyone can get around by saying they just aren't capable of mitigating more damage. There's really just no point to this getting to vote, and no reason for it to pass. I'm for this sort of bill if it actually did anything, lol.

Good writeup. That's what jumped out at me when I looked it over: it's toothless. I'd rather see a series of metrics to measure the impact of development projects, not a list of effectively optional requests.
