An OLD villain returns! A person I remember from my childhood that gave me the shivers!

Kartivva wrote:Well, I gave this one final shot, but, as I am a master of disguise, Darahan the owner and controller of me, Adcot, is saying his farewells.

Sadly. I guess it's time to say my farewell, and I know it probably is not going to be welcomed, since after all I was a sinking ship during my eject.

I've had a great few years here, but my interest for NS has really been dying off, quickly. I had resided here in the 10,000 islands before, when I moved my nation to other regions to find a home that suited me for a year. But, sadly, as that year went by, my boredom with the game grew, as I had started loosing interest quickly. I was looking for something to do. I was looking for a life-line to keep my nation afloat, so I went looking for a new region, eventually returning here. I met a lot of great people along the way, and had a lot of fun. But, sadly I don't think fun comes in forms of stress and anxiety that I have felt slightly throughout my career here.

I'd watched many events, participating in a few Zombie Outbreaks, N-Day with Pony Lands, and finding great regions like Equestria, 10000 Islands, and the sort. But sadly, I think it is time for me to call a new chapter, ending my career here.

I want to thank those who welcomed me in with open arms and their hospitality, but my time is ending short. I'm going to look to the other activities in which I participate in, and someday, in the distant future, return.

Thank you all.
I just wanted to say sorry about the defect / hop to the Black Hawks, I was looking just for something to do.

I had a lot of fun here, allying, rp'ing, making friends and the sort, but I dont think the main causes of anxiety and stress is worth it in the end. Especially from this region, but i'm setting that aside.

It's hard to think about saying this... But.

Thank you Arcanium of mars, The Candy Of Bottles, Trotterdam, MineLegotia and Equestria, GeodesicDragon, Novaya Equestria, Frenequesta, Fulin, Bulkan, Magical equestria, Princess luna, Emerses, and Intergalactic Penguins, as well as the many others I may not mention, in this region, for giving me a reason to smile very day, be in a community I never thought i'd be apart of.

With this, I resign, and I guess, i'm going to abandon this game, set my past aside, and return deeper into the future, if that is what it yeilds.

Farewell, those who I cherish.

Goodbye,
*music starts playing*
We'll meet again,
Don't know where, don't know when!!!

"Equestria is currently enjoying its longest period of harmony in recent years."

Yeah! There's only been nine attempts at world conquest on Twilight Sparkle's watch!

EDIT: Wait, ten. Chrysalis counts twice.

The Candy Of Bottles wrote:Oof. Just realized Iimbraturi sombra was involved in a raid. Bye bye.

Actually, it was a defense mission, that was me, doing my TITO duty.

Nobody else has anything to say about the pilot? I guess I have a little more...

I'm wondering why "temporarily borrow the Elements of Harmony and then put them back when you're done" is now a viable plan, but wasn't against Tirek. (Also, given what happened with Tirek, why do they even still (think they) need the Elements?)

"Or Spike, or Starlight." ...Scootaloo wasn't even in your list, Rainbow?

And I think we finally saw what Twilight's alicorn mane looks like. (Second episode, 16:52.)

After not editing The Unmasked World for a good several weeks, I'm proud to announce that The Unmasked World will be posted either tomorrow or the day after tomorrow or at Friday afternoon.

I’ve got a huge wall of text as usual on the Rainbledon thread.

As to Tirek, it probably was still a viable plan to use it against him, but as far as timing, it was not even a year since they had to put them back to stop the Everfree from expanding, so that was fresh in their minds. I don’t blame them for not taking the risk. (The real reason, of course, is that the fans started complaining too much that they weren’t used and Allspark decided to go meta.) And because the Tree needed the Elements at the time of S4, yet putting them in gave the Mane Six that box that would eventually give them Rainbow Power, it’s not unreasonable to believe that the actual physical existence of the Elements was still necessary.

Frenequesta wrote:I've got a huge wall of text as usual on the Rainbledon thread.

That's the one with 415 pages and a running average of 7.5 posts per day? Yeah, I haven't dared step there.

Frenequesta wrote:it's not unreasonable to believe that the actual physical existence of the Elements was still necessary.

I meant why did they think it's necessary to bring the Elements with them?

So far, what we've seen is, in order:
1 (Nightmare Moon and Discord): The main 6 need to have the Elements of Harmony with them to use the friendship cannon, although it's hard to actually get rid of them (Nightmare Moon smashed them, but they reformed in the presence of suitable bearers).
2 (Tirek): The friendship cannon's power still originates from the Elements of Harmony, but the main 6 had either been given the ability to draw on the Elements remotely, or been infused with a portion of their power directly.
3 (Sombra, part 1): The main 6 need to have the Elements of Harmony with them again. Also they're rather easier to smash this time, or Sombra is just a lot better at it than Nightmare Moon. (It may also matter that Sombra tracked them back to the tree and destroyed it too, but then again, according to the arc that introduced the tree in the first place, it was the Elements that gave the tree its power, not the other way around.)
4 (Sombra, part 2): ...But it turns out that the main 6 can still use the friendship cannon even without the Elements. I'm not sure how anything is meant to actually still pose a threat to them now.

Of possible note is that the latest version of the friendship cannon didn't use rainbow-y visuals, meaning that whatever they did to Sombra may really be something inherently different from what the Elements of Harmony did.

Sombra's own power is inconsistent too. In the alternate timeline created by Starlight Glimmer, he started with the Crystal Empire under his command (it was never properly liberated), but trying to take over the rest of Equestria required a long, drawn-out war that, while going badly for Equestria, wasn't completely hopeless. Now, he started with absolutely nothing other than his own magic, but was able to just waltz in and take over Canterlot. Does he get stronger every time he's killed, or something?

That’s smarter than just executing them...I really need to rethink my government policies.

According to Grogar the ponies are strong together. So seeing as how Discord was able to convince the mane six that they have the power and magic of friendship within them all along, i’d be willing to bet that the villains will try to separate them on multiple occasions and succeed for a rather short/long period only to have the mane six become friends again and blast the baddies with their friendship magic.

I'm a huge fan of a villain team-up and I'd actually really like some episodes similar to The Mean Six where we focus more on the villains for a change. The bit when Cozy Glow was trying to get Tirek and Chrysalis to do team building was low key one of my fav bits of the episode (although that's maybe due to this being slightly reminiscent of the Fluffle Puff comics). I'd also like Sombra to come back as well (seeing as Grogar did say that he would have to submit to his will if he lost) as he had much better characterisation this time around and I really like his powers, even his first invasion did feel a bit rushed. Having said that, that's a lot of groups that need episodes over the series, especially as we have to wrap up everyone's stories - Mane 6, New 6, CMC, Starlight, Discord, Spike, the Apples, villains...

I think the difference there is how prepared people were for it - Sombra pt 2 knew that he wanted to take the whole of Equestria straight away, whereas it's not unreasonable to believe that in the alternate timeline, he only wanted to take the Crystal Empire as this was his stated goal in his first appearance. That pause by Sombra would allow Celestia and Luna to mobilise troops (as we see in the episode) which engages full-scale war and thus it would be too dangerous for Sombra to lead an attack. The blitzkrieg strategy he used this time around allowed him to essentially catch the city of Canterlot napping - especially without effective leadership.

Arcanium of mars wrote:Sombra is dead! Surprise, big not. HAAA!

How many times has he died already?

I count:
1. When Celestia and Luna originally defeated him 1000 (plus change) years ago. (This is the most iffy one. It's quite possible that whatever they did to defeat him didn't look like an actual death, even at the time. We didn't see it, so we can't say for sure.) He eventually came back from this one, though it took 1000 (plus change) years.
2. When the Great and Honorable Spike the Brave and Glorious delivered the Crystal Heart. We saw this one happen on-screen, and he sure looked dead. He eventually came back from this one, although he doesn't seem to have been able to do it on his own, it was Grogar who resurrected him.
3. When the main 6 blasted him with the Elements of Harmony. That also looked rather lethal, although it might have been a tip-off that the Elements of Harmony had never used lethal force before, so Sombra may have faked it. Also note that this time the Crystal Heart was also activated, but didn't harm Sombra himself, only undid his mind control. He came back from this one, rather quickly, under his own power.
4. When the main 6 blasted him again with... whatever it is they're doing now. Can he come back from this one? Since Grogar's deal was that if Sombra fails, "you will submit to me", I think he'll try to summon Sombra back if he can...

Worth noting about Sombra is that he seems to be very good at planning ahead. Remember how, back when the Crystal Empire was introduced, he almost won purely on the power of numerous traps that he set more than a thousand years ago, despite not being able to do much himself due to being locked outside the shield (a lot of fans make fun of how single-minded he acted, but I'd say he wasn't dumb, he just didn't have anything to work with). Back when he actually ruled the Crystal Empire rather than being trapped outside it, and so could respond to alarms on the Crystal Heart, retrieving it as Twilight and Spike did would have been basically impossible (even Celestia and Luna don't seem to have found it, they beat Sombra with brute force). So I think the reason he was able to come back from the Elements of Harmony is that he was expecting that attack, and took countermeasures. He didn't survive the Crystal Heart being recovered because that was the source of his previous immortality gambit and he hadn't had time to adjust (presumably he had counted on being able to retake the Crystal Empire before it could set up new defenses against him, hence the Crystal-Empire-vanishing-and-returning thing, though possibly he was expecting it to take less than a thousand years), and he didn't survive the "we still have friendship" beatdown because it came completely from left field and he had no way to expect that such a thing is possible. But Grogar has different strengths, and his powers aren't limited by having planned ahead...

Also speaking of people who are dead, I notice that Grogar didn't bother to resurrect the Storm King for his team-up. Out-of-universe, I rather suspect that the real reason for that is that Hasbro didn't want to extend their contracts with the movie characters' voice actors. In-universe, maybe the excuse is that the Storm King isn't much use without either his army or Tempest's strategizing. (Cozy Glow doesn't have any powerful magic of her own either, but she's pretty good at scheming, while Tempest was clearly the brains of the outfit in the movie... and she was redeemed, so she's not an option for Grogar's team-up.) Speaking of which, I wondered what happened to that army now that they're no longer marauding conquerors.

Intergalactic Penguins wrote:The bit when Cozy Glow was trying to get Tirek and Chrysalis to do team building was low key one of my fav bits of the episode (although that's maybe due to this being slightly reminiscent of the Fluffle Puff comics).

Cozy Glow had the best lines all the way through.

I liked her answer to why she thinks she was defeated, as well as her comment about what "temporarily" means. She's not afraid to snark at the super-powerful boss villain.

I do hope she continues to show the same cunning she had in her own arc. Working together was Grogar's idea, but he was pretty yelly about it. Cozy Glow has the most experience with inspiring people, and I hope we see her making good use of that skill (even though her team-building attempt that we've seen so far wasn't very successful).

...Honestly, I'm kind of rooting for Cozy Glow to win.

Alternate Applejack did say that "it didn't take long for him to force every one of his subjects to fight for him against Equestria".

I'm not sure why Sombra would become more interested in taking over Equestria now. It's not simply revenge over Equestrians defeating him, since that was also the case last time when Celestia and Luna beat him.

Also that means that Celestia (and maybe Luna, if she's around - don't forget that the main 6 didn't defeat Nightmare Moon either in this timeline, so while Equestria must have survived her return somehow, it may have involved banishing her back for another 1000 years or even killing her, rather than redeeming her as in the main timeline) would have to have been quite proactive while Sombra was just sitting around doing nothing for a fair amount of time.

Intergalactic Penguins wrote:The blitzkrieg strategy he used this time around allowed him to essentially catch the city of Canterlot napping - especially without effective leadership.

The princesses weren't there, but there were still guards (which I presume have their own chain of command), which were completely ineffectual as he just hypnotized them into serving him.

Nothing we saw in the alternate timeline served as an effective defense against the "just walk in and hypnotize everypony who crosses your path" strategy. Of course, I'm not sure how we would recognize a defense against hypnotism if we saw it, maybe the soldiers' uniforms were enchanted or something. Or maybe that's why Celestia was "leading the charge", if she's the only one with the magic to counter him (but then it would be pretty easy for him to just outmaneuver her and hypnotize entire cities when he knows she's elsewhere).

Arcanium of mars wrote:We have the old changelings in our nation. We use them for spy missions.

I have both. Also for spy missions and deep inflitration. Like how I have 20,000 spies in each of your nations here, picking up transmissions from universities, Govenrment offices, military, police stations and others

Yeah, I think they're going for the, everyone teams up for an epic final showdown cliche.

Bascially German strats in a nation without any clear sign of mechanized/motorized troops.

But his plan was Good. Seize the head off and the rest will collapse. The only problem with that is, from my prespective unfeasable with the separation of powers in Equestria. Canterlot is obviously the Center of Poilitics, but...other than rich nobles and the best schools, not much is there. Economy is quite obviously centered around Manehattan, Cloudsdale's got weather on its side, and Applelousa has got the food supply. If the Mane 6 failed to stop Sombra; there is a time gap where Sombra needs to capture all the cities quickly or be too late and give the cities time to build up at the very least Militas which will cost him, and since most of his army is bascially inexperienced one width infantry battalions, with only few trained battalions of Royal Guards, the cities would be able to fight back and since the Crystal Empire was freed, they could easily bring their army south and obliterate the mind controlled masses. Plus, on Sombra's mind control ability. I think he has a limited range since the scene with guards with the horns on the castle walls only lost their horns and not their individuality.

Also, on the villain team up. Cozy glow is now best villain in my book as she literally acts like a child among adults. I love it. But this team up is technically dangerous, Cozy Glow's love of friends can be continuously absorbed by Chrysilas who then can continuously feed Tirek and, Yeah, Triek could become overpowered. But with Grogar uniting these villains, there's probably a chance where these three go, "hey, I like this friend shipping thing," and bascially abandons the entire plan just to go and live their lives together.

Equestrian Multi-Union Empire wrote:Cozy Glow's love of friends

Cozy Glow doesn't love friends. She loves friendship because she sees it as a useful tool to manipulate people into doing what she wants, but at best she cares about her friends only as toys to play with. She's shown that she won't hesitate to betray her "friends" if she thinks it will help her claw her way to the top. At the same time, she's also smart enough not to betray her allies just because when there's no sound strategic reason for it.

More to the point, while the show hasn't clarified in great detail exactly what counts as "love" for the sake of changeling feeding, I'm pretty sure it has to be love for an actual person, not an abstract concept. I don't think what Cozy Glow feels for her allies counts.

Good point.

This is the first time that the third episode of a season was a direct sequel to the events of the first and second episodes.

I just hope they let this season last awhile. After seeing this episode, I wondered just how fast or slow they will take it. We don’t need another season three fiasco.

If the episode synopses we know are any indication, they are in no rush to get Twilight to be ruler.

"Rush" is relative. There's enough time in a 26-episode season that they don't need to make a beeline for the finish, but there's a lot of loose plot ends to tie up in just one season.

The show doesn't usually get all that much done in one season. The closest it's come to having a season-spanning story arc, in season 4, the "arc" just consisted of the first two and last two episodes, with some indirect tie-in from five particular episodes in between (8, 10, 12, 16, 20), and that's just about it.

Heh. Check out today's Dennis The Menace if you get the chance. The US one. Honestly not sure if the UK one is still going, but better safe then sorry.
