Rhodesian Deterrent

As a self governing region of America, supplied and maintained by the near continental nation including a nuclear stockpile, a new era of ideological defense is in need as a deterrence of insurrection within Rhodesia herself. While the initial stance against communism led to mass unrest a long study by ONI has led to a pivot to a focus against the alternative threat of internationalist movements of communism. With ONI and the government having slowly integrated nationalist propaganda to all daily walks of life. In addition ONI has been given a carte blanche to develop a program of counterinsurgency, counterintelligence, and active prevention and indefinite detainment of dissidents. While the programs themselves were expansive and pervasive throughout the country the clandestine nature of ONI allowed for most of these things to be kept out of sight and mind of the public while keeping their balanced peace.

The Great Blue Fleet Sets Sail

An atmosphere of joy and revelry took the Manhattan dockyards by storm today as the 7th Siege Division passed its naval review. Crowds of thousands jostled for positions in sky scrapers and at the waterfront to catch a fleeting glimpse of the vast armada that paraded itself over and around the city. The centerpiece of the entire show being the state of the art Maine class siege platforms, bristling with guns and dripping with american pride, they are joined by the USAS Enterprise and Gibraltar, from the First Carrier Division. Fighter planes and bomber craft from nearby Lakehurst and Henderson Fields joined in the display, great flying Vs adding an even more patriotic zeal to the occasion. A peculiar sight, and one that surely drew more than its fair share of the spectacle, were the arrival and inclusion in the review of several foreign navies. Foremost among these being a trio of Airship Aircraft carriers with their escorts from Finland, a proud showing from a staunch ally. A single Hungarian ship was given its spot in the light, a demonstration of respect among nuclear armed nations. As well, escort class ships from China and India joined in the festivities, representative of their alliance and the power they held in the pacific. Surprisingly, two american designed, german built air frigates were allowed to join, perhaps a sign that tensions between the former belligerents had began to warm.

Last to the party were the French and Russians, their splendid ships completing the procession of beautiful weapons of war turned instruments of peace. On the ground, recently returned from Europe, the 1st infantry division marched down times square in company with the 3rd Heavy barrel Brigade and the marine detachments of various warships. New York saw the fleet off with fireworks and cheers as the great blue fleet cast off and began its trip around the world. A multinational endeavor of peace through united force, their first stop will be in Lisbon, followed soon after by Paris, Danzig, Helsinki, and Willow Woods before making the trip across the contiental divide to Cairo, then further on to Delhi, Chongqing, Ashton, Perth, Sydney, Saint Didicus, and finally the end point in Havana Cuba.

We wish our dashing and brave boys the best as they embark upon this global trek, one that will surely be remembered as the Air Navy's finest moment! Ballast Aweigh!

Last weeks Embassy Rejection Day was a massive success.
I have received four TGs regarding this, one was polite, and two were from the same person. A success, nonetheless.

The Herald - These new printers let us change our logo!
~ 15 March 1940 -- 16 November 1942~~

Good morning, listeners, I am Eric Ortellio, and this is yet another Herald radio broadcast. It is such broadcasts as these that we thank listeners such as yourself for enabling us to produce. Furthermore, we also would like to take this moment to express our dearest gratitude for this broadcast's sponsor, the Hershey Chocolate Company. Hershey chocolates, dear listeners, are simply the best out there on the market today. In particular, I encourage all of you, if possible, to try their newest praised creation, the 5th Avenue Bar! Comprising of an amazing crunchy peanut butter crisp covered in milky chocolate, there's simply nothing not to enjoy about it.

Now, on to the recent bulletins handed to us.

Abram Volder Appointed Angolan Chancellor, Democratic Activists Express Fear
To begin today's broadcast, we come to you with news from the Central African nation of Angola, where a most recent highly anticipated snap election concluded only two days ago. This election for members of the Angolan National Assembly was called by the nations State President, Victor Rundheim, in June of last year, making it the third round of elections held in Angola in the past three years. As the situation stands, the election was absolutely dominated by the ultranationalist Patriotic Socialist Party (PSP), with the party sweeping to an unprecedented 44 seats, leaving any competition far behind.

The greatest "loser" of this election, as labeled by pundits, was the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP), which has historically stood as Angola's dominant opposition party, advocating a centre-left platform for social reforms to Angola's systemic racial segregation. Once votes were counted, the PLP found itself launched backwards to a mere 13 seats in the National Assembly, paling in comparison to their possession of 43 only 6 years ago. Many experts have placed the blame for this on the shoulders of the objectively inexperienced PLP leader Gunther Strelzer, who party veterans have criticized as a failed attempt at living up to the magnanimous reputation held by the late party leader, Johann Fland.

As a result of election, as well as, as argued by political analysts, a rise in the popularity of the Carsonist New Left Party (NLP), it was announced by President Rundheim this morning that Abram Volder, the leader of the PSP, would be appointed as Chancellor of Angola, and replace the previous Kurt von Wittelsbach of the Conservative People's Party (CPP), which has long dominated the nations political landscape. As such, the Angolan government has been reformed under a new coalition, led by the PSP, shared with the CPP.

Not much is known of Mr. Volder's early-to-mid life. Serving as an army volunteer at merely the age of 13, Volder joined the army and served as an expeditionary in putting down Carsonist-backed insurrectionists in South Africa in 1921, being wounded that same year from an explosion. Said explosion since left him with a permanent limp which many Angolans typically identify with his presence. More on the new Chancellor, his positions, as stated by opponents, have been labeled as increasingly radical, as Volder himself has been accused by some outside analysts as being a "crypto-Hauserist." As replicated by the PSP's campaign platform, the army-veteran-turned-writer stands vehemently for the redistribution of land and wealth from the upper class to the impoverished of Angola. Another defining characteristic of both Volder and the PSP is a rabid opposition to any and all extra-African involvement or interaction with Angola.

With his appointment to the second most powerful office in all of Angola by Rundheim, various experts and supporters of democracy, both in Angola and abroad, have expressed a notable modicum of concern, to say the least, over the possibility that Volder may implement undemocratic means for the implementation of his proposals as policy. One of the most vocal of these cautious voices is NLP leader Ernst Troder, who immediately decried the new Chancellor, proclaiming that "The President has chosen a man who will only plunge a dagger deeper into the heart of the proletariat while claiming to heal their wounds." When made aware of accusations, the Chancellor was swift to deny any intent of abusing power, quipping that "Without democracy, where would I be?"

PSP supporters draw their base largely from the nation's impoverished, many of whom have expressed hope that Volder's appointment will finally bring the beginning of the end for the nearly 5-year-long economic depression in Angola that began in 1937 with the collapse of the arms market and agricultural sector.

Democracy, as Usual, in China
Further East in the Qing Empire, we take a look at another highly impacting election. Following the closely-observed party congress of the Kuomintang (KMT), the party itself officially declared itself to be a Haoist one, now formally advocating for the ideals of the ideology pioneered by Hao Ming, encompassing nationalism, democracy, and welfare. Additionally, KMT leader and Chinese Chancellor L Ronghuan ordered snap elections to be held. As with any Chinese election, turnout was found to be extremely high, as tens upon tens of millions Chinese took to the polls across the Empire.

As the last votes were counted, a near unanimous opinion was formed by international onlookers and experts on Chinese politics. That being that this election was defined by two dominant phenomena. First, the near wiping of so-called "radical and foreign ideologies," those being the Gravonist and Caronist parties from the Imperial Parliament, more specifically the National Assembly, and second, the sudden entry and rise in popularity of the newly-formed Royalist Party, formally titled as the Party of the Ancestral Shrine of the Ruling Household (PASRH). Quite a mouthful isn't that, listeners? Ha!

Regardless of the length of the party's name, it nonetheless put on an impressive debut, immediately garnering 20 seats in the National Assembly, despite this election being the first one in which it has contested. Here at the Herald, our own correspondents reporting on the election were quick to call it in favor of the KMT, as the historically dominant party boasted a landslide victory, surging from 366 seats to a whopping 409 in the National Assembly, and from 143 to 165 in the Imperial Senate, granting the Chancellor's party a supermajority in the former!

Other China experts, such as our own here at the Herald, have written that this election signals a new trend in the political landscape of the Qing Empire. With the near annihilation of the Carsonist Party, more so than the Gravonist Party, analysts have stated that it now seems apparent that many Chinese aim to voice support for the government's far more traditionalist leaders. This was further represented with an increase in turnout in historically ultraconservative regions, which largely was given credit of the success of the Royalists. As described by our own David Rysand, "What was already a present, yet subtle undercurrent of fervent traditionalism may soon be evolving to a whole new norm for Chinese politics... With ideas not homegrown in China itself being pushed aside, I would not be surprised if the future for the Chinese Parliament holds but a 'triopoly' of sorts between the KMT, Royalists, and United Progressive Party (UPP)."

Sahrawi War Ends; SSPR Declared Dissolved
While it now has been over two years since international fighting ended over the brief Sahrawi War, or as it seems to have been retitled, the Shepherd War, it only now has become all but certain that any chance of survival for the now former Sahrawi Socialist Peoples Republic (SSPR) has died in the Sahara. After a meeting between French and Finnish diplomats in Laayoune, it was formally made official that the rogue Carsonist state is no more, as captured renegade generals Omar Qudasi and Ibrahim Durka were forced to sign the Instrument of Surrender and Dissolution.

With the war having begun in March of 1939 following the Sahrawi invasion of the Gold Coast Federation (GCF), the year-long conflict was defined as a slow and dreadful one. Though the initial weeks of the war brought mixed results with both Sahrawi and Goldcoaster victories scattered about, the tide become most certainly turned in favor of the defending GCF and its intervening GAUNTLET ally Finland. The event which most spelled doom for Mahmoud Azada, the late dictator of the SSPR, was of course his own demise at the hands of what international authorities believe to have been an assassination carried out by the Finnish KTV, immediately after which the nation descended into civil war behind the lines.

Yet another writing on the wall came in the form of the swift, yet previously unexpected French intervention and campaign into the northern coast. This territory found itself under the control of General Durka himself, whereas Qudasi became locked in fighting against the Finnish and Goldcoasters. This same intervention came as such a surprise to many, as it was previously reported that France aimed to engage in diplomatic talks with the SSPR, even going as far as to place troops upon their border to guarantee the efficiency of any talks as a sign of friendliness.

Now, listeners, it is important to note that despite the termination of the socialist government, a new one still, to a degree, shall exist. As reported by our very own Aaron Ieston, who was first to acquire details on an agreed peace, under the protection of France, the reformed Republic of Sahrawiland will act as a French protectorate under the leadership of famed Sahrawi democratic reformer known colloquially as "the Elephant," with a real name being uncertain, who organized numerous protests against Qudasi's dictatorship in urban areas during the civil war.

With the acknowledgement of defeat by these two former military commanders, all organized resistance to the Franco-Finnish coalition that stormed through the country has lost any formal recognition of legitimacy. While it cannot be accurately predicted whether this shall sway all men loyal to the two rival generals to lay down arms, it has now become certain that by orders of Paris and Helsinki, the final nail has been driven into the coffin of the Carsonist experiment in the Sahara.

Unfortunately, my friends, that is all the time we have for today. As I leave you with Pennsylvania Polka by the Andrews Sisters, I thank you for taking your time to listen to the Herald. The time is 6:59. And remember, as always:

The more you know!
