as a person who doesnt have the best memory i can def agree with alzheimers, dementia is in a similar vein, though ik im fairly far from being near the 2 potentially happening
i dont know particularly much about a lot of diseases but anything that would leave me permanently bed ridden doesnt sound very enjoyable, one that comes to mind would be ms which my grandmother unfortunately has (not the one i live with as shes actually my great grandmother, but my grandmother grandmother)
another one i can think of that sounds pretty cringe is diabetes, particularly because im probably very predisposed to it genetically, (my uncle has gotten pre, my great uncle has it pretty bad, as well as my great grandfather had it and my great great aunt iirc) so its kinda everywhere in my family; i think on paper it certainly wouldnt be as bad as some ive mentioned and im sure theres ways to still live a healthy and happy life with it, but its def the closest to being more likely to happen to me which is pretty spooky

Diseases. Let's face it, there's none I would choose to have.

My mum has some form of dementia. She'll ask me a question, and I'll answer. Then a few minutes later, she'll ask me the same thing. I try to look on the positive side - my answer is often better the second time around, because I've had a chance to practice. I only see her about once a week, so it's not too demanding on me, and we have a good laugh. It's hard for my dad though. He'll have the same conversation about what's for dinner several times a day. And despite having the conversation multiple times, she'll start preparing a different meal despite him having the ingredients he intends to cook sitting out on the kitchen worktop. She usually seems happy when I see her, so that's good. Sometimes (I've never seen this) she breaks down and cries.

Years back, long before she was ill she occasionally used to say to me: "if I go gaga, bump me off". Just now, the balance seems to be she's happier more than she's sad, and she still has fun, so I'm not about to do that. If the balance changes though, I'll need to think it through again. If at some point she stops recognising her family, and spends her time being scared, what kind of a life would that be? I worry that we'll hit the point where I think, "on balance, the younger you wanted to be bumped off by now". And if we get there, what will I do?
