Hi everyone, I'm quite confused. A week ago, I had about 32 endorsements and now I have 8, but I've just been ranked top 10% influential.
Does anyone have any idea what could've happened, because I'm really confused.

If you have discord you would know that the region is ceasing to a halt due to the fact that UDR is abdicating the throne. The fact that all these endorsements have left may be because the mass movement of people to the new region led by successor apointed by UDR

Citizens of the civilized region, on this day we announce a difficult transition. For four years, the New Western Atlantic has stood as a crowning achievement of diversity both in nationality and thought. Equally so, it is the pinnacle of democracy and liberty. Today we stand as a community of assorted beliefs, cultures, religions, ideologies and more. In retrospect, along the path we have traveled is marked with several attempts by those who were determined against us. Some even coming from within.

In our preceding region, led by Baconbacon123, its leadership hoped to unleash the power of banjection against all members of the opposition party. When I stood up and spoke out, I too suffered the same fate. Or so he thought, at least. What he did not realize is that I would establish a New Order and we all would coalesce around it. One devoted to security from raiders and political stability to quell uprisings like that of the now-redeemed Saint William the Horrid.

Our decision to breakaway from The Empire of Oppression five years ago was a difficult decision, one that required much thinking on the part of all of us at the time. Namely The brotherhood of kyro, Heisenbee, Baconbacon123 and myself. We ventured into the unknown wasteland that is the wider NationStates community, and despite the level of self doubt we may have had, we established a community that would go beyond the mere borders of a single region. This is a community that transcends it as we have settled in three regions to date. Our cherished beliefs of democracy, liberty, security and stability have endured it all. Each having been strengthened as time elapsed.

As I previously alluded, this region has existed for four years and even longer the community itself. As its Founder and eventual first Monarch, I can testify that is has been an exhaustive four years. While governments come and go, I have remained here for the duration of each. There have been a countless amount of cabinet ministers and precisely eleven governments, ten Prime Ministers, and nine sessions of congress. My tenure began with confidence and it would not have remained that way without the adversaries that keep me ever-vigilant or the countless amount of friends that have aided me along the way. Of course, I would be neglectful to not mention each and every one of you for being a part of the region and, more importantly, embarking with me on this journey. So thank you. Although this is nothing more than an incredibly bare browser forum, the people which I have been most fortunate to meet have widened my perspective of the world. To me, it is much more about the relationships and knowledge you receive during the process as opposed to the endorsements or titles.

To those who might be thinking that this is yet another patriotic speech from His Majesty, I assure you that it is not simply another announcement. This is, in fact, my final one. After extensive rumination, I have decided that I will be abdicating the Monarchy. This is for a series of reasons, most notably the time I find myself devoting to keep tabs on every aspect. From the senate and its resolutions to court proceedings and inter-regional affairs. While I am capable of doing this and have showed as much, the question I find myself asking is whether I want to? Admittedly, I am hard-pressed to find an answer that I find acceptable to justify the time requirements. To that end, it is time I step aside to pave the way for someone new and something else.

The direction of our course as a community is clear. At first, I considered appointing someone as my successor to lead this region, but the unfortunate reality is that only the Founder or Delegate may exert executive power. Neither of which are legitimate alternatives as I have no intention to cede this nation to someone else, nor can stability be realistically provided via a Delegate who accrues the most endorsements. The latter of which would render the region susceptible to schemes for power or whomever is most popular, both potentially teeing up a tyranny-by-majority. This is unacceptable.

In order to assure the security and continued stability, this region shall be reorganized into the first New Western Empire. Not to worry, Josephtan has assured me that he shall create a successor state that adheres to this region's values and aesthetics, and so I have vowed to advise and aid him where necessary. This may include transferring the constitution, code of conduct and dispatch of political parties to him. To our Roleplayers, it will be permitted to transfer over to this new region with the assurance that it shall be recognized officially and guaranteed autonomy. All of which I am prepared to do.

May the Fourth, one week from today, will be the date that I close the borders and the upcoming Summer general election will be postponed, both of which are indefinite. Nations may remain in the region for as long as they like, barring extraordinary circumstance. However, the day-to-day governance shall cease. It is important to mention that this eleventh government will not officially expire until 31 June at midnight. The Discord server will remain open for the community to continue using and I will make it a priority to answer every question that will be asked.

Do not be saddened, for while this region stands as a testament of where we began, it too is a blueprint of what is yet to come.

The History of Calponiaa

Chapter 1
The first President of Calponiaa knew that the bedrock of the future laid at his feet. He knew that whatever choices he made, and carried out could impact the nation for generations to come. Upon his inauguration day, Finly Hardy made the final preparations for his cabinet. He contacted his family and made sure any last plans were in motion before his work began as the leader of Calponiaa. Finly Hardy to the oath at noon in a ceremony attended by thousands of Calypsonians. The weather was clear, with rain as a distant fear in the forecast. After the orchestra finished it’s last song, President Finly Hardy stepped up to the podium. “Today, is the beginning of our Nation. I stand here today in hope and grace that we will construct greatness from our past. All of us desire the longing for individuality, and I am committed to ensuring that we will triumph”. After 29 minutes, Finly Hardy ended his first speech and kissed his wife. The rest of the day was full of celebration and a part ensued into the night. The next day, President Hardy met with the 1st Congress of Calponiaa. Although the nation had just come together and unified under one body the day prior, the political lines had already been drawn. President Hardy was the official chairman of the Conservative Party. He faced opposition from 3 other mainstream parties who strongly competed against him in the 1st election. Most notably, Jewels Gardner of the Socialist Party. Mrs. Gardner had organized a strategic campaign, and was anything but fearful of tension. During their meeting to form the 1st government of Calponiaa, tensions were obvious, and President Hardy was hesitant to bring any conflict to their discussion. The cabinet immediately worried that President Hardy would struggle to begin passing legislation. The grounds of the political landscape already foretold the issues to come. President Hardy, kept the meeting short and congratulated each party for their dedication to the new nation. Within hours, news was released about a official coalition met between the Conservative Party and the Libertarian Party. Lamar Jenson, one of the challengers President Hardy faced, was named the Head of the coalition. Mr. Jensen had already planned out a legislative course for Congress, and began speaking with President Hardy on protocol to pass the legislation. Although it wasn't as official, the Socialist and Progressive Parties made a coalition as well. For the record, the Conservatives held 10 seats, the Libertarians held 9 seats, the Socialists held 6 seats, and the Progressives held 5 seats. The Progressive Party was seemingly out of the spotlight, but it also made its mark within due time. Laurence Dick was the chairman of the Progressive Party, but was the only candidate not to formally outline his agenda in the election. He gain much scrutiny from Jewels Gardner, but opted to prove that peace was not going to be made if retaliation was the precursor. As the public's focus was still on the newly elected government, President Hardy began creating the institutions of different government departments and agencies. He worked closely with many of his advisors to ensure all infrastructure and budget costs were kept to the plan. Meanwhile, Congress began to pass laws restricting the culture and society Calponiaans would now live in. These laws were almost bilateral bilaterally agreed to, with minor disagreements of course. Mr. Dick of the Progressive party was also keen on making a stand for environmental laws. However, the many of his policies were not implemented at all. Mr. Dick was to get a few through, and triumphed his victory as a party accomplishment, but almost all other parties took credit for the passage of his work. This of course, casted a shadow on the Progressive Party to public media who watched every move in the 1st Government. Issues already began to make themselves apparent despite the hard work from both sides to create good binding laws that organized a stable culture and society. Nudist camps began emerging throughout the nation, and the large demographic of religious people mentioned for immediate action. “Solve this immorality” many proclaimed as the marched around cities in Calponiaa. This was the first issue to be addressed by a President. President Hardy was slow to react, but through delegation of aides, he constructed a bill to present to Congress. The bill outlawed the practice of public nudity. Of course President Hardy was careful not to infringe on the civil liberties he championed for. His bill was easily passed by the right wing coalition, with some alternative discussion from the Socialists and Progressives. Mr. Dick of the Progressive Party held that he was not against the idea itself, but opted to change some of the regulations they imposed. However, the Socialists distanced themselves from the issue entirely. Mrs. Gardner curved the discussion about budgetary concerns and how the government would spend its money. Many people on the right were shocked to hear this and listened closely to her proposed ideas. Mrs. Gardner had proposed a tax standard larger than that of the idealized Conservative one. Debate raged on about the taxation mark, as fund would need to be made for the new projects. Public input was sought, as pollsters began working around many different regions of the nation. To their surprise, the public opted more towards the Socialist proposed tax rate, which was going to be hard to pass through a right wing coalition. Media outlets highlighted the debates, as this was now a cornerstone concern when funding the new projects the government had began.

Chapter 2
Days passed on and Congress was still determined to have an answer. Anger poured out at President Hardy for starting these infrastructure projects without legislative approval. However, President Hardy composed a strong defense and argued for a, “foundation the people wanted in their new nation”. With minds going back and forth, an agreement was made after 13 days straight! A compromise was made for the Socialists and the Conservatives (for the most part) got the best deal they had asked for. Scrutiny was put on Mrs. Gardner who continued as the spokesperson for the Socialist Party. Without ceasing she continued to promise that the budget would be equalized. Internal criticism also grew as Socialist representatives began to slam Mrs. Gardner. Turbulence ensued and Mrs. Gardner eventually offered an apology to her fellow party members and constituents. As election time was gearing up again, the Socialist Party felt the need to repair any damage done, while the Conservatives continued to implement their planned agenda. Then tragedy struck the whole nation of Calponiaa. A mass shooting occurred killing dozens of people, including the gunman. President Hardy made a public appearance only hours after the shooting, comforting the nation and reassuring the public that he was, “committed to safety and security of the Calponiaan people”. A nation mourned for days as the slain were put to rest and the government focused on gun laws. Most notably, Mrs. Gardner arose to the public eye and motioned to begin restrictions on Guns. Other members of Congress urged for a full ban of all firearms. With the internal mess and debacle still fresh within the Socialist Party, Mrs. Gardner gave to the majority for a ban. As talk arose in the Conservative Party, President Hardy announced his support for the ban of firearms, nation wide. This became the shock of media and news outlets were relentless about the situation. Public talk was all about the breaking news, and many supporters of President Hardy became split over his decision. The ban was passed as many Conservatives supported the ban, reluctantly. Despite the fracture within the Conservative Party, both opposite sides seemed cracked. Analysts predicted a Libertarian or Progressive win in the upcoming election, but polls still showed President Finly Hardy in the lead against Socialist Jewels Gardner, who was making a second attempt to win the election.

Chapter 3
The 2nd election in Calponiaa was held, and most people seemed split on their votes. As the polls went back and forth trying to predict a winning side for President and Congress, Congress passed some final legislation. The topic of Euthanasia became paramount for the Socialists near the election day. Religious opposers had their say, as the Conservatives hoped the bill would be drafted. Unlike the Socialist Party, the Conservatives had remained fractured and somewhat split on many issues within their own agenda at that point. Mockery was made from one side to those who were claimed to be “against the Conservative agenda” and this was largely a bad decision historically. When election day occurred, the internal Conservative Party fracture was fresh in the mind of voters. On top of that, the Euthanasia bill was passed allowing the practice of Euthanasia to be allowed. The largely religious demographic of Calponiaa had swayed and voted elsewhere this time around. The 2nd Congress was elected with, 10 Socialists, 9 Conservatives, 4 Libertarians, and 2 Progressives. The Socialist Party triumphed in victory becoming the majority party in the 2nd Calponiaan Election. Many questioned where the coalitions would go, concerning the party fractions. Meanwhile, President Hardy secured a second term as President with more votes than he had in the first election. President Hardy gave a passionate speech thanking all his voters, and vowing to, “make big changes”. On inauguration day, many new representatives were sworn into office, hoping that a sense of unity was on the horizon after both major parties struggled during the 1st Government. Mrs. Gardner remained her post as the leader of the Socialist Party and began by working on a coalition with, “any party, willing to unify”. Conservatives tried to remain hopeful that Libertarians would keep with the current coalition to preserve a right wing majority. After much consideration, Laurence Jeanson of the Libertarian Party announced they would continue to work with the Conservatives in the existing coalition. Concurrently, Mr. Jenson resigned as chairman of the party making many supporters concerned about the parties future. President Hardy immediately got to work and as promised, began putting executive plans into action. With many infrastructure projects nearing completion, President Hardy made social safety a priority of his second term. After the mass shooting, and the recent gun ban, the President targeted the reduction and prevention of crime. He visited numerous cities and towns on tour that elapsed for many months. During this time the progressives began putting together a massive package deal that combined Healthcare, Welfare, and Tax Increases. This proposal was under massive scruinity from the right wing, with Socialists supporting it. When the President did eventually return, he announced he would not sign the deal. Nevertheless, the bill passed Congress after some Conservatives flipped their votes in support. President Hardy condemned the package and cut off contact with the representatives who supported the legislative package. Media outlets were highlighting the scruitnity the President inflicted on his own party. Within the same time, approval polls released, showing a decline in approval for President Hardy as well as Congress all together. Libertarians sought to use this as an opportunity to steal some spotlight and proposed numerous, “less government” initiatives. All of these initiatives were denied and not passed. For a time, Congress began to slow down and many legislators began to fear that gridlock had set in. The Conservative Party was trying to regain control of itself and the agenda the President organized in his first term became obsolete. President Hardy proposed ideas on the prison system and how the government should operate it. His bill eventually failed and much of the news became bland, with little to no government activity occurring. Infrastructure projects had finished an and many departments under the Presidential cabinet were running in full force.

Chapter 4
The next election came and went, with the usual campaigning and other typical issues. Finly Hardy narrowly won the election, but vowed to continue his work without ceasing. Some voters expressed their worries, and some of the President’s close supporters feared that he’d already accomplished too much. Nevertheless, President Hardy was inaugurated for his third term, alongside the dominant Socialist Party. The Socialist Party got right to work by passing Eco-Friendly regulations. This paved the path for major legislative feats like the ban on all automobiles. This was a complete shock to everyone throughout the nation. Concurrently, the economy began to suffer. Many people were without a job, and these people looked up to President Hardy for some sort of help. President Hardy blamed the actions of the Socialist led majority. Furthermore, he attempted to veto the legislation, but suffered a override veto with some Libertarians supporting the ban. President Hardy also faced nationalist protests. These protests claimed that the President was weak and reform was in dire need. Jewels Gardner led a push for more Socialist, and equality policies, but were unable to get them passed to the Right-Wing pushback. To get away from the protests and continue his work, President Finly Hardy began reaching out to different nations across the globe. Some historians marked this as the first contact of Global Relations with different countries. President Hardy did not want to extend any trade contracts or agreements, but was only traveling for diplomatic safety. In fact, President Hardy was widely liked and numerous foreign governments approved him. Back home, Congress was hyping the crowds and many nationalist protests began to fade away. What was the hype, plans for an economic social system. Welfare laws were passed and many people who lost their jobs, took a hold of these welfare options. Nevertheless, the economy continued to suffer with much of the blame put on President Hardy. When the election season arrived again, the voters spoke loud and proud.

Chapter 5
Jewels Gardner was elected as the second President of Calponiaa. She was also the first woman to become President too. Jewels Gardner had finally won an election, and continued to tout reforms and strength. However, The Libertarian Party came close to winning the Congressional election, but the Socialists were able to hold their majority for a third session of Congress. The Conservatives seemed weak, and many of the foundational leader fell into the shadows, leaving the public eye. Jewels Gardner had everything policialy go right for her. With all the eyes of the nation on her, she got right to work. Her first act as President was more cerimonails than political. The capital of Calponiaa was officially recognized and formally put into paper. She held a parade and created a holiday called Calponiaa day. Congress got to work as well. The Socialist Party was quick on passing social/moral laws as well. Many of these laws were dubbed, “small-scale legislation”. During the Presidency of Jewels Gardner, headlines made the news after reports stated she was an atheist. Days later, President Gardner stood her ground, and supported her stance atheism. Many religious people of all faiths feared, and some organizations redacted their formal endorsements. Controversy rose when the President attended a town hall meeting and spoke against religion. Many people felt divided but religion became a hot topic in the realm of social politics. The President vowed to redact licenses to some churches on specific beliefs. This controversy had many fellow Socialists in Congress pondering if President Gardner was fit and stable for the job. Some representatives debated impeachment, but others seemed convinced they could run someone else in the next election. This plan was dubbed, “The New Order”. When the President found out that a sector of Congressional Socialists were planning to oust her, she made a statement that she was not going to run for a second term. Many of her close supporters who were left in dark felt shocked and betrayed. The new Socialist candidate nominated to be President, we seen as also weak. Meanwhile, the growing Libertarian Party was hoping to make a breakthrough. WIth the scandal facing the current Presidency, George Smerilson sought to win as the Libertarian candidate. The debates here long, high with tension, but George knew if he kept the scandal above the head of President Gardner, he had a chance to win some votes.

Chapter 6
In fact, that’s what happened. George Smerilson (the Libertarian) won the Presidency, and became the third President of Calponiaa. His win was quite triumphant and many people in the Libertarian party felt accomplished. However, the Conservative Party was able to take the lead and win the majority in Congress with 8 seats. The Socialists held 7, Libertarians held 6, and Progressive’s held 4. Conservatives and Libertarians made an official coalition, as well as agreeing on a contract that laid out specific agenda items that needed to be completed under President Smerilson. The new President was quite close with Congress, and this communication proved efficient when getting as many votes as he could on his proposed legislation. Free Speech was one of the most notable acts of his Presidency. During the campaign, President Smerilson was keen on Free Speech, and had even hoped to include it in a official Constitution, which was the next objective. However, all of the proposed revisions of the constitution failed to pass through Congress. There was also talk about creating a bilateral legislature. This was widely opposed by the Minority Socialist Party, and the Former President Jewels Gardner spoke against the idea as well. Instead, the Socialist Party was noted with passing an Education reform law, requiring certain Ethics to be taught in grade school. Some Conservatives supported the legislation after some amendments were made as well. This action of bipartisanship was praised by the public, with the hope the long political tensions would eventually cease, or become non-observant. However, this was not the case when the Healthcare debate was struck. A Conservative congresswoman presented a bill outlining the protection, and ultimate decision to privatize all healthcare. This was certainly not approved, by either the Progressive and Socialist Parties. The Libertarians felt divided and the Party was at a political crossroads. The foundations of their political beliefs were certainly being tested. In the end the bill became law, allowing all healthcare to become privatized. Anger erupted from the left wing of Congress. The public also displayed some unhappiness. Most people did not foresee this event and some also felt the decision of the whole issue. This certainly had some influence on the voters in the next election. George Smerilson felt assured he could win a second term, but Mike Dickson (Socialist) came onto the scene. An outsider making high promises and long reforms, sought to be the man to end the Presidency of George Smerilson.

Chapter 7
The Socialist Party spent more money in this election campaign than they had ever done prior. This was unprecedented, and it certainly did not lockdown and votes. President Smerilson had really good poll rating, and some skeptics claimed that the Socialist Party was wasting too much money, others claimed that the funds were being misspent. When election day arrived, polls quickly changed in favor of Mike Dickson, the Socialist candidate. Some supporters of President Smerilson claimed that there was a conflict of interest and demanded that justified action would be taken. Well, none was taken and Mike Dickson won. When the results were made public, it was a shock to many. Mike Dickson won with 63.6% of the total vote, and had a 45.4% lead against the Progressive runner-up candidate. In fact, the President hardly had much of a voting block. Mike Dickson was inaugurated along with the 16 Socialists, 5 Progressives, 2 Conservatives, and 2 Libertarians.
