The UoA was founded in 1898 by a coalition of western nations to combat the spread of British and French colonialism. The UoA serves as a second layer of protection to the numerous states of the continent, ranging from tribal to empirical. The UoA functions similarly to the recently created League of Nations (the UoA served as a precedent for the League of Nations) in that it is a governing body which encompasses several nation states. Unlike the LoN, the UoA is able to exert more power over it states. The current president is Charles D.B King from Liberia; he is the 7th President of the UoA)

The Union of Africa (UoA) is democratic continental union which functions to protect the cultural and political interests of inhabitants within the continent. Founded in 1898, the UoA established a stable government and a uniting force for the thousands of African tribes, kingdoms and republics. The UoA functions alongside the Federation of Nations, which played a major role in the Union's establishment. The historical foundations of the UoA originated in the First Congress of Kingdoms, held in the Dahomi city of Eko, from 12 to 20 May 1895. The conference aimed at forming the African judiciary, which put primary focus on the willingness of the African people to free themselves from foreign dictatorship. The UoA's founding is largely credited to Liberian president William D. Coleman, who coincidently also served as its first president. Because of the influence of the union's first president, Liberia has been able to exert immense power over its counterparts. Member states of the UoA cover the entirety of continental Africa along with the Sinai Peninsula and the island Madagascar; consequently, the geography of the African Union is wildly diverse, including the world's largest hot desert (the Sahara), huge jungles and savannas, and the world's longest river (the Nile). In order to properly distribute power, the union function through these three legislative bodies: The Pan-African Parliament, The Executive Council and The African High Court. The PAP is composed of 125 elected representatives from its numerous governing states, and intended to provide popular and civil-society participation in the processes of democratic governance; the Executive Council decides on matters such as foreign trade, food, agriculture and communications, is accountable to the PAP, and prepares material for the PAP to discuss and approve; the AHC is given the power to decide on and establish the legitimacy of UoA treaties. The current head of government lies in the Assanti capital of Kumasi and the current President of the Union of Africa is Habte Giyorgis Dinagde of Ethiopia

From the First Edition History of Africa, Molefi Maphanga
1916

The winds that blow across the African savanna are a song its people have long known. It is a song of freedom; of innocence; of complexity that makes our society unique from that of others. We do not fear the unknown - we do not point our rifles at it and blast it into oblivion. We do not scream the barbaric screams of neolithic man. We do not jump up and down, making incomprehensible gestures. We harbour the truth of life and justice, for we do not fear the unknown

TÚvine Ebang, Gabonese Poet
1922
