Editorial: Government Jobs

Your region needs YOU! Apply for a Government job here

Living in the New West Indies can often feel like living in a 5-star hotel. The dispatches are there, the BRS does its job, the maps are updated, the rules are being applied, the embassies are being constructed. It is easy to fall into the trap of thinking that those dispatches grow on trees and everything is done by itself, but it is simply not true.

While most IRL economies are suffering from unemployment (or are soon going to what with those AI's), the New West Indies are curiously suffering from the exact opposite effect: a flood of unfilled jobs. This means one can pick and choose which job fits them the most, get easily accepted, and gain a whole bunch of benefits from simply helping your region grow. What benefits?

  • Experience. We always see elections with inexperienced candidates caught in an atrocious Catch-22: They would be more electable with more experience, but they must get elected to gain experience. Getting a government job means building experience others can see, and being one step ahead of your competitors in the next election.

  • Notoriety. OK, not Hollywood fame, no limousines and autograph begging crowds. But notoriety indeed. Citizens getting government jobs are known to be hard workers for their region, and are more quickly noticed by General Secretary candidates for their Secretariats, or by anyone else for a promotion. Entering a Government Job makes you shine like a beacon in the sea of citizens officials have to pick high dignitaries from, and could land you on the Secretariat!

  • Expertise. Participating in a Government Job makes you a field expert. Whether you work in the Roleplay Administration or the Foreign Office, you gain expertise that you can flamboyantly show off in that next General Assembly Debate in order to get your points through. You become a reference people look up to in your domain.

  • Admiration. Government jobs allow citizens to prove their worth and show they are committed in the New West Indies, earning them a great deal of praise and admiration from Regional Officers and lay citizens alike.

Let's hear one of those Civil Servants tell us about themselves and their experience in a government job. Reno sheriffs department isn't just a law enforcement agency in Nevada. They are also the New West Indies' Political Archivist since mid-August. Let's see what they have to say about Government Jobs! (key: Celestiam, Reno)

Why did you choose to get a Government job?
I chose to get a government job because outside of being an elected official it was a way for me to do more for the NWI. Also politics interests me.

How would you describe the application process to become Political Archivist?
The application process was very easy. Honestly there is an extreme shortage in labor so if you apply for a job you all probably get it.

How have you been enjoying this position?
I love the job it's fairly easy, although the links for my dispatches have yet to be set on the main page which is slightly frustrating. I am looking forward to collecting the info for campaigns for the upcoming presidential election.

What do you believe you will be taking away from your time as Political Archivist?
Really I will be taking away experience with learning about the HTML formatting for dispatches, it will help me design better legislation and help with future government positions.

How time-consuming is this job to you?
Not time consuming at all. Takes me like 10 minutes to update a dispatch. Although some are longer because I have to redesign them.

Would you recommend a citizen to apply for government jobs?
I recommend yelling at Karteria directly until he hires you. Seriously that is the fastest way.

Well, while we would never condone yelling on our Secretary General, everything Reno says is correct. Be like Reno, and enjoy all the benefits of holding a Government Job! Check those here

Roleplay (IC)

The world experienced a regain in international relations and embassies, after a political silence lasting for a few months during which very little international affairs took place.

Maybe due to this lack of political action, the Venetians lost dominance of the Signoria in Cymiopolis, leading to the election of a new Doge, after the tragic death of the late Doge Gasparo Contaniri off the Falkland Islands due to an alcohol-induced boat accident.

Global controversy picked up again when the 2nd ottoman sultanate announced that any subject not willing to go to mosque would be put to death. This news sparked outrage in the international community, with Joshenia, PotaTown, Cymiopolis, The greater iran, Idiocarasia, Celestiam, New united carolinas, The anarchist communist, Rhodes-land, Deugaw, andKunkenga all issuing condemnation statements. In contrast, Almihria offered support to the Sultanate.

A resolution was placed and passed before the Union of Nations to formally condemn these laws, while Joshenian and Cymiopolitan governments organised the expatriation of several thousand confessional refugees.
The Libertanan Air Force conducted air strikes on the 2nd Ottoman Sultanate. They were joined by the Revolutionary Navy of Korochunov, the Cymiopolitan Army, Humanitarian Aid from the North italian union, the New United Carolinan Army, and the Kunkengan Navy.

The greater iran offered its territory bordering the Sultanate to foreign troops who could base themselves there. However, floods in Tehran, the Capital, have led Iranian Military operation to be postponed.

A conference on the Ottoman question was called in Paradiz, Joshenia, in order to discuss the fate of a post-invasion 2nd Ottoman Sultanate.

Meanwhile, Libertana entered the Pan-American Free Trade Agreement (PAFTA), making it yet another member to enter the famous American free trade zone, spanning from the northernmost islands of Baffin to the tip of the Tierra del Fuego. Libertana proceeded to sign Free Trade Agreements with several other nations, imposing themselves as a commercial hotspot in the New West Indies.

Nowa polszan representatives met with New united carolinas dignitaries in New Raleigh to discuss potential technology sharing.
The Emperor of The sakura nippon travelled to Celestiam to discuss a potential trade route through the Arctic Ocean, reducing the costs of goods from each nation.

A deadly virus derived from the common flu with resistance to extremely cold temperatures has been discovered in PotaTown, with neighbouring nations being warned that this could be the beginning of a deadly epidemic.

An airplane containing the Great Khan of Soullsey crashed into the Matterhorn, a landmark mountain of the Saurdoldian Alps.

The Ministry of War of New sistonia is secretly testing Faster than Light transportation technology, with the Director of Enigma Engineering claiming they had found a way to construct an Alcubierre Warp Drive. The first Faster than Light spaceship was sent to the Alpha Centauri system.

The Sultanate's religion laws have generated much international tension

Executive Decrees authorized during the last three months (July to September)

Elections

One election took place in September.

Between the 25th and 27th of September, the Seventh Election for President of the General Assembly was held. The race originally opposed incumbent Thyostega, PIP Leader PotaTown, and Political Archivist Reno sheriffs department. PotaTown stood down in support for Reno before the opening of the polls.

Reno sheriffs department won the election and was inaugurated on October 1st, with 25 votes to his opponent's 13 (17, minus 4 votes invalidated). This will be Reno's first elected office.

Assembly Affairs

The Assembly debated GAR#18 Reforming Electoral Procedures, and after two amendments were unanimously passed, the whole act is expected to be voted on soon.

Discussing the Future: A Judicial System for the NWI?

Rarely has a General Assembly proposal prompted so much excitement and gossip, even outside of the GA Community. Proposed by Twelve titans, the still un-numbered proposal "Establishing a Judicial System" has become one of the most popular and famous proposals ever to have been written. Sponsored by Progressive and PIP officials, the Judicial proposal as it is often informally called is supported by all four party manifestos, and has yet to attract significant dissent. yet, it will change one of our fundamental government organs and create new opportunities for the New West Indies...

The Judicial Proposal in a nutshell establishes a High Court of the New West Indies that would control the judicial branch of Government. Until now, judicial powers were vested in the Secretary General, who would issue and has still recently issues Executive Orders containing banning sentences. These are effectively bills of attainder, explained by our region's previously small population and lack of interest for high profile Justice and Legal Interpretation.

The High Court, run by one elected Chief Justice, would eha rcriminal, civil and state cases, interpreting statutes, dishing out sentences, and overall making our retribution system both less burdensome for the Secretariat, and more independent of it. By installing a Chief Justice independent from the rest of the Government of the NWI, the Judicial Proposal hopes to achieve a time where Governments and individuals alike will be fully accountable to the Law and Justice. A set of defendant rights will be enacted, while the Court could analyse questions of Law and prove itself to be a neutral arbiter both in and out of the NWI Political World.

The proposal has received support from all parties, and an informal Discord poll asking why citizens still dwelt in the New West Indies led to 5 people responding "Lawmaking" and four people responding "gavel emoji", surely a symbol of the yet to be born Court. Though the proposal has not yet been proposed to the President, the current President Reno Sheriffs Department is a supporter and co-sponsor of the resolution, meaning it could very well reach the voting floor by the end of next month.

So, is the region ready for a Judicial system? Who will occupy the new office of Chief Justice, who will probably be elected in October or November? What do you think of this proposal? Responses that only time (and you) will tell. Feel free to comment on the Regional Message Board and Discord!

To be honest, we thought you would CTE due to your inactivity so we decided to just roll with it and continue RPing without dice rolls until you CTE. If you want, we can go back to dice rolls. Just provide the number of troops you wish to use

I suggest splitting them up for the 3 fronts (Istanbul, Trabzon and Antalya). I’ll contact the members of the coalition to see how many troops and equipment they are using on each front. I’ll then make a dispatch for the dice rolls and we will see how that goes. Each battle is best 3 out of five and we stop after someone loses 5 battles.

P.S. Sorry if this came as a shock. The region needed some RP to revitalize it and an opportunity to take down the mighty Ottomans and save persecuted minorities was perfect

1000,000 troops is the total number of troops from all 8 nations. Those include both infantry, special forces, military police, air force, navy, intelligence, logistics, high command. If you don't want to participate in the rp and fight a war you can always say so.

Recent Activity

Government

GA resolutions passed during the last three months (July to September)

The General Assembly could see a regain in activity in the newt few weeks

Glad my casual and at sometimes grammatically incorrect interview got in there. Also shoutout to my unknown foreshadowing with "outside of being an elected official it was a way for me to do more for the NWI"

Hahahaha. Yes, for full disclosure, Reno has gracefully accepted this interview well before he announced plans to run for President, let alone get elected. Foreshadowing indeed, maybe Reno is a teller of good fortune? Should we include a Renoroscope in the next issue?

Thank you for all your upvotes folk! By upvoting our regional content we make ourselves visible to the world, and make it more likely for our friends from abroad to bump into us!

The nation was disrupted early in the morning by Cymiopolitan Planes soaring through the sky. The planes landed in Area 2a2o and witnesses report what seemed to be

We are supposed to discuss our thoughts on the Constitutional Amendment in the GA channel, right?

after the apparent uselessness of the old ICFH, while the high chief was on leave... somewhere, High chief Yeubelluv has called for a complete reworking of the council and its workers.

In the leave of Yeubelluv, the ICFH (Idiocarasian Council of the Flaming Hand) was founded and proceded to do very little, with the exception of all being bombed to death once. so in the wake of his return, Yeubelluv has made progress on recreating it into something of actual worth, a proper council made up of factions of like-minded Clan heads and Chiefs.

As for those who ran the council before, they were taken and personally yeeted off of a large cliff into a large bonfire as punishment for their weakness , uselessness and rumours of foreign corruption.

This is not the first constitutional amendment to be put up for vote, though.

Achipel is right according to our records of resolutions this would technically be the 8th amendment to our constitution. Unless anyone has a problem with me re-IDing historical resolutions I think it would be beneficially to differentiate normal resolutions from constitutional amendments.
