In a Miraculous Victory, Conservative Heigele is Elected President

LILIANA — In the most shocking election in Karteria's history, Benjamin Heigele, former conservative minority speaker in the House, was elected president yesterday.

The margin between the two candidates was razor-thin, as expected – as of now, Heigele won with 43.6% of the vote, while Thompson had 43.1%. Further analysis is surely due to come, but preliminary observations conclude that far fewer liberals voted than in recent years, and in opposition, conservative enthusiasm was at an all time high.

Perhaps even more shocking than the ascendance to presidency, conservatives made substantial gains in the House. They won a net 36 seats, while the Liberal majority lost 33 of those. The Hawks lost one seat and the Greens lost two. As a result of their success, Conservatives now command 103 of the 300 seats in the House (115 when caucusing with the Freedom Party). The Liberal majority is now down to nine.

We will surely see a much more competitive governance between the two branches of government for some time.

Overview

Pegasus Starships, is a Carolinian Space Exploration company that designs, manufactures and sells Star Ships and Star Ship weaponry worldwide. As of now, the company is the largest Starship manufacturer in the world.

The company was founded by the Carolinian Government on April 15, 2140, in Greenville, Midlands Province under the Carolinian Space Cabinet that was formed not too long before it. Pegasus Starship's first and current CEO, Dennis Raford was selected by President Pierce F. Gurley to take the head of the company.

When nations started to see the potential of space (dubbed locally as the New Space Frontier), many nations including the New united carolinas began to develop their own space agencies, with the intent launch Space Stations, Establishing Space Forces, and Colonizing Mars. As opposed to most countries, the New United Carolinas took this chance to capitalize on the movement and decided to produce and manufacture its own ships.

The Maverick X-1 was the first ship to be made under the new company and had its first successful launch on April 12, 2140; a mere three days before it's founding. Four research Variants (Starship Chariot, Starship Palmetto, Starship Pathfinder and Starship Comet) were chosen to help escort and construct the Phoenix Space Station, developed by New sistonia.

The Company's first customers were the Governments of Karteria, Kronshtadt, and Cymiopolis

While the company is only selling to national governments currently, it does plan to expand to the public soon, as well as building more factories across the world.

Maverick X-1

Description: The Maverick X-1 was the first ship ever to be produced by Pegasus Starships and is the flagship model of the company. First introduced in 2140, Four original ships served as the ancestors. These ships were the Starship Chariot, Starship Palmetto, Starship Pathfinder and Starship Comet. This small and lightweight craft serves many functions and comes in many variants.

It relies on three General Electric LIGHT GE482 Super Electric Engines for general thrust, and 6 Verticle Control thrusters on its sides (3 on each side). The armor is made modified steel, giving it some resistance to bullets. The advanced navigation system allows the ship to make flight paths throughout space, as well as detecting and avoiding outside objects. One feature it boasts is having what Pegasus Starships calls "Photosynthesis power," Where solar cells installed in the outside of the ship can use solar energy from the sun or any other star to produce the electricity. If no light is available, a backup generator with 2 hours worth of back up electricity. It has a max crew size of four.

The first Variant is the standard passenger variant, comfortably seating 10 total people, including the crew. The Executive Variant is more luxury-focused, containing more luxury features like television and other movie players, luxury lighting such as lamps, max-comfort seating and more. The Research Variant contains many advanced computers that can relay information back to a connected base. The Cargo variant replaces the rest of the fuselage with cargo space, as well as an extra cargo door on the exterior leading in.

The Military variant has 4 seats for the crew, with extra space for ammunition (for guns and the ships) 2 50mm Miniguns lay on the outside and can be reloaded from within. The military variant also comes with a radar jammer installed, and with more aerodynamic features to allow it a little more mobility than it's other variants.

Refuge L-78

Description: The Refuge L-78 was introduced in July 2140 and was originally produced specifically for the UN. The Refuge L-78 is a ship constructed for Humanitarian and Civilian Aid and is usually used in times of war, mass evacuation, disasters, etc.

The ship relies on four General Electric GE890 Hyperium thrusters, which are installed to the rear of the ship. The ships also have 10 Vertical Control Thrusters, 5 on each side, produced by Pegasus Starships. The entirety of the fuselage is covered by modified steel, giving it resistance bullets and bad environmental factors, allowing it to go into hazardous areas whether it be war or a foreign planet. The ship has an advanced navigation system and a life detection system, using body heat to see and since people who could be in need. The ships come standard with survival kits, space suits, and a small onboard hospital inside.

There are two variants for the L-78: The Refuge Variant, and the Supply/Aid Variant. The Refuge Variant is used for the mass transport of people. Seating up to 200-210 people, the Refuge Variant is used in mass evac situations, and can also be used as a troop transport ships for space forces. Each ship has 210 Reusable, washable basic space suits, and holds a small hospital towards the front of the ship. The Supply/Aid Variant has a slightly different purpose. Instead of seating, and standing polls, the Supply/Aid Variant has a large cargo hold, and a large drop door at the bottom. The doors are marked with drop zones and have three settings: Small drop, Medium drop, and Large Drop, These are 3 ways the door opens depending on the size of the load. Both of these ships have many safety features, and large durability, in order to fulfill their purposes.

Lancer Y-2

Description: The Lancer Y-2 is a ship made for war. This small spacecraft is the first fighter produced by Pegasus starships. This quad winged ship, with its high maneuverability and speed, makes it a menacing match against its targets. The small ship is powered by four General Electric GE232 Micro-Thrusts, which can propel the ship at speeds above 25,000 miles per hour. The quad wings allow for extra control in zero gravity environments.

The Y-2 Lancer comes in two variants which go by class. There are the Excalibur Class and the Apollo Class. Both classes are equipped with guided missile capabilities, advanced navigation, and space sonar systems, auto-lock on weaponry, and rocket ejection seats, and survival and first aid kits. The main difference between the two classes is their main weapons.

The Excalibur Class is equipped with two drop-down 30mm 7-barrel Gatling guns, that drop out from the sides of the cockpit. These guns will tear through the armor of its targets, doing a large spread of damage to whatever it hits. The Apollo Class is equipped with three Directed Energy Y-2 Cannons, that are locked in place rather than dropped down. One is placed on top of the ship, while the other two are placed on each side of the ship's cockpits. These lasers are more for precision, hitting specific targets with their beams, and obliterating them almost instantly. These ships can aim down the sights, and if used properly, can take out an aircraft carrier's engines, while not even destroying any other part of the ship.

Both of these ships were crafted to be as quick, maneuverable, and deadly as possible. These ships are great for defense and offense and can are the perfect lightweight craft for many military situations.

I am back for the Summer! Sorry for not informing you all earlier, but it told Karteria I would be gone for a bit due to University work. I am just finishing my finals now and am free for the summer. I will be in regularly once again!

Presidential Announcement

The new Karterian President, Benjamin Heigele, conducted a communique to the domestic and international community today.

"As President, we will reassert Karterian strength and authority abroad, whilst maintaining our participation in international institutions. For too long, our nation has only talked the talk and has failed to take credible, consequential action, instead relying on our allies for the enforcement of our interests. While labor constraints have an impact most certainly, that should not be an excuse to scale down our skeleton military to a barebones force.

We will move to no longer decrease our active troop count and will move to expand our navy. Therefore, we have begun negotiations with New united carolinas to construct a new port within their nation, exclusive to Karteria and considered our territory, for the full use of our navy. This port will enhance our logistical efficiency and response times to crises.

In other news, the Karterian government will move to focus more heavily on international business and maintaining economic growth. Consumer spending has stagnated, and wages have not increased due to high taxes of previous administrations. Therefore, my office will propose a comprehensive economic plan to the House that will:

• Further subsidize agriculture

• Lowering the corporate tax rate while closing loopholes

• Somewhat lowering middle class tax rate

• Increasing taxes on those in the top 1% tax bracket that do not make income on businesses (excluding self-employment) in order to balance tax revenue

Overall, business investment will expand and consumer spending will grow, creating a private industry surplus and expanding the economy. More is to come regarding the plan. Direct any questions to my press secretary."

After an extended absence of Emperor Charles I and the failure of a recent declaration of martial law to quell anti-Sistonian riots in most electorates, Emperor Charles I chose not to return to Riverdale for the time being. A Phalangist (Fascist) government, aided by the military, opposed to immigration, political rights of minority groups, freedom of press, and countries seen as anti-Electorate such as Luraqau and New sistonia seized control of the country at midnight on Monday and suspended the Senate and High Electorate Council and voided the 2018 Constitution, reinstating to 2015 Constitution. The electorates were nationalized and Chancellor Joseph is now the Head of Government. Emperor Charles I continues in his role as Head of State. The Emperor's assets were seized and are being frozen until he agrees not to return to Riverdale. During the War of Institution, a civil war amongst different electorates, thousands of Electorateans were killed and many electorates ceased to exist. In the interest of preventing another such tragedy, the Emperor has chosen not to take action against the new government. The Red Guard (the Emperor's own crack personal guard and military force) has thus been recalled by the Electorate and is, with the Emperor, probably in or near Idiocarasia or Cymiopolis. Most members of the previous government have likewise fled the country. As a next step, the new government seeks to nationalize the Malvines (Falkland Islands) as well. While the Charles Doctrine was a thinly veiled attempt to corral the Phalangists, it will likely be a powerful weapon in the new government's arsenal. Slavery was officially abolished today, which begins this regime's saga on a high point, but there are talks that the Chancellor himself may be displaced. In regards to the current poll, it came about during a discord discussion that showed an interest in such an international competition. The idea hasn't been fully fleshed-out yet, but the results of each match would definitely be determined randomly (perhaps with other bonuses as a result of extraneous factors).

Additionally, this would be within the current roleplay, meaning you could customize your teams, their logos, the players, their backstories and the fanbase, etcetera. It would likely be on its own thread to avoid disrupting the RMB. Additionally, before the tournament, you could write stories/articles about your national leagues the qualifying players from them as well.

Of course, there are other sports that I didn't include – baseball (my favorite), basketball, American football, hockey, etc. – which we could do as well. It all depends on demand. I considered football and the Olympics in the poll so as to be as inclusive as possible.
