Broken Tooth Tribe:

Scouts and messengers continued to arrive and depart from the main camp, either on their wolf mounts or on foot as runners, respectively. Snicklefritz had come to realize the importance of good information and remaining informed about the goings-on of those around him. And he had tripled the number of scouts in his service, sending word back to the mountains requesting more wolf-riders.

The humans of the Variag had grown self-assured, having mistaken inaction for weakness. Their ignorance gave them confidence, as so often was the case. The humans of the Druwaith were divided, yet stubborn in their strength. The humans of Rohan were led by a king who appeared to have fallen asleep at the reins, and were ripe for the plucking. But the news coming in from the humans of Coldvar was curious and contradictory.

“It would seem our new friends in Coldvar have many secrets...many secrets, indeed.” Snicklefritz idly scritched the wolf while weighing the details of the information he had received.

“The rumors were heard in multiple towns, boss,” said the waiting scout.

“If true, imagine what this could mean...I haven’t heard of a dragon being seen in these lands in a long, long time.” Snicklefritz pondered this for a beat. “Well, it would appear that our efforts to reach out to this particular human empire were fortuitous. See if you can’t verify these rumors, one way or the other.”

“Yes boss.” Snicklefritz watched the scout remount the wolf and ride out of the camp. He enjoyed dealing with these scouts, who were usually among the more intelligent of the orcs – required, as they were, to work in tandem with another creature, as well as operate on their own for long stretches of time in foreign lands without direct oversight.

“Now,” Snicklefritz turned and addressed the leader of the army who had returned from the northern reaches. “Ready your army. We will be attacking Nurn together, as one – myself leading from Gorgoroth, and you from Upper Nurn. These Variag men will be sent fleeing from these lands.”

OOC:
I’m unsure how to read the “status bar” (for want of a better term) above the army icon. For instance, the Variag human figure in Nurn is shown with “1035,” referring to the number of forces, but under that is a bar with only a bit of red filled in. I read that as meaning “low strength.” However, does that mean the original army was much larger, and they are down to just “1035”? Or, was the initial army size of “1035” now reduced to just that fraction shown in red?

OOC:

I have discussed about this with other players, and I was proposed that having visual cues for different actions (like movements, armies etc) can help. Unfortunately its a bit too late for this iteration of the RP but in due time I will add visual examples for more things.

About the particular question you asked, Wild Hunt, it generally means that that army suffered some form of defeat at the start of the current update.

There are two kind of "defeats" scenarios:
1. those in which you attack a province but you fail and get defeated (but you remain in your attacking province)
- this one is distinguishable by its a smaller red filled bar, like 25% or 30% (see the army of the Variag Order that attacked Upper Nurn and got defeated but remained in their attacking province).

2. those in which someone else attacked your province and you lost it, got defeated (and the defeated army gets relocated to your capitol).
- this one is distinguishable by having a 50% red filled bar (see the army of Trollshaw Realm in Ettenmoors, they got defeated when they lost Angmar to Clan Frostbeard).

The following is in the FAQ at the moment:

- If your soldiers attacked a province and lost, they will remain in their province with the remaining forces at 80% effectiveness.
- If SOMEONE attacks your province your soldiers participate at 80% effectiveness in the fight.
- If you want to attack in the next update, you will participate at 100% effectiveness.

and

- If your soldiers lost the battle and the province they were in, they will get relocated to your Capitol, remain at 50% effectiveness and be unable to move for 1 turn.
- If someone attacks your Capitol in the next update your soldiers will participate with 50% effectiveness to the battle.
- You can NOT move your soldiers for one update, to give them time to recuperate from the injuries and the journey.
- After one update they will be at 80% effectiveness and are able to move.
- After one update, the same rules as above apply, ie, if anyone attacks the province they are in, they will participate with 80% effectiveness. If they are engaged in a fight as the attacker, they will be at 100% effectiveness in the fight.

For your particular case, that army suffered a defeat but is able to move. If they remain in the province and you attack it, they will fight at 80% efficiency.

The number is the army that the player (or NPC has). Having the red bar underneath means that a fraction of that army will be unable to fight for 1 update or two updates.

For actual fighting, I have to calculate 80% or 50% of that army (depending on the case) as the calculator does not keep into account the injured state.

If this does not make any sense, feel free to TG me!

OOC:

That clears things up perfectly, thank you for the explanation.

The Woodland Enclave:

The news of the defeat of the dwarves of Mirkwood, the Woodland Enclave, are already old by now. Chance had it that the mines of under the Redhorn Gate were heavily defended, with a significantly bigger force than what described by the scouts sent by Queen Barazturg. The reason for such a gross underestimate of the enemy forces was clear; treason in her army ranks.

At least the other dwarves in the dwarf alliance are fairing quite well, as news from Lord Dralvik of Clan Frostbeard reached the Queen. The capture of Angmar is just one step closer from reuniting the clans of the west and of the east of the mountains, and the orcs of Gundabad can hold for so long before capitulating.

The emissaries from Clan Frostbeard also brought some worrisome news, describing plans from the Trollshaw Realm trolls to attack the heart of Woodland Realm from the High Pass. The Queen believed the emissaries and gave thanks and appreciation to the bearers of news that certainly had to traverse many perilous realms in order to reach her, in Foothills.

Leaving the Foothills was not a decision to be made lightly, even if the Anduin Vales are in danger to be exposed to the trolls. But by remaining in the Foothills, in the case of an attack by the trolls then the Queen would be isolated from her kingdom's capitol; so it was decided to cease the hostilities at the Redhorn Gate, for the moment, and relocate all the forces to Anduin Vales and to set up defenses there.

Queen Barazturg also sent a message to the Clan Frostbeard:
"Brother in arms,
the dwarves of the Woodland Realm had suffered a defeat at the hands of what appears to be a troll-elf alliance. I know, it is hard to believe, but we fought them at the Redhorn Gate and were shamefully defeated. By all that I hold dear, I tell you that the warriors there are nothing I've ever seen! The trolls were easy pickings, but the elves ... I tell you, it's something dangerous with them!

If the trolls really concocted an alliance with Elves, then I fear that something bigger is brewing in Middle Earth ...

Alas, we are moving our forces towards Anduin Vales in order to secure our borders from any troll incursions. Thank you for your notice, and I hope tha' you are beating those trolls right back to their capitol. We will try to join you, although right now I believe that the dwarves of the Defender's Fjord can assist you better. Have you tried contacting them for a joint attack on Gundabad?"

A message was also sent to the Defender's Fjord
" King Alexius Comnenus of the Defender's Fjord,
The North is almost ours! Our allies and friends from the Clan Frostbeard just recently captured Angmar and, with their help, you should attack and capture Gundabad.

If they do not want to help you, I pledge my assistance to you. We will take Gundabad from the orcs and reunite our lands.

King Commenus, I want to ask you of something else as well. A fair number of time ago I've dispatched scouts to the East, and of them, a few returned. After the empty lands of Rhovanion lie an orc faction ruled by .. hmm, I am not completely sure, my scouts said 'Snicrefruz'? Either way, what are your thoughts about them? Will they prove to be a problem? Are they of interest, after we unite the North?"

Trollshaw Realm:

"Drats!", Torogok exclaimed. "I knew that this would happen! But trust in dwarves I said. Trust in dwarves I needed! Heh! Serves me right. Trusting others, time and time again, is proving to be unsuitable for the survival of Trolls", Torogok lamented.

The loss of Angmar to a surprise attack from the dwarves hit the morale of Torogok harder than what he liked to acknowledge. At least he, personally, evaded the attack. The attack was claimed to be extremely vicious and unforgiving for those that partook in the fight, as the personal accounts of those that retreated to Ettenmoors can attest to.

Nevertheless, the plans of the Trolls are in disarray, at least for a moment. The little that Torogok can do, until the reinforcements that are trained in Ettenmoors can be deployed in the fields, is to protect the border from future dwarf aggression.
"The time for retribution soon will come ... " Torogok hissed.

Etyangoldi Alliance:

The Etyangoldi Alliance received no news yet from their allies of the Elvea-Falasse. But no news are still good news among friends. With things normalizing at the border with the humans of Arthedain (at least, on the surface ... ) and a valiant defense of Redhorn Gate in front of the disgusting dwarves of the forest, the point is now what to do with the armies. Moving further east is perilous, especially since the relationship with the elves of Lindon is still uncertain and the borders with the Kingdom of Arthedain are unsecure at best.

So a reply to the humans of Druwaith Folk was a given, considering the fact that they announced of the dwarves intentions. But a positive reply was, under current circumstances, impossible. The armies of the Etyangoldi Alliance are needed elsewhere. Not to mention that the friends of Ettenmoors might need some assistance soon enough ...

OOC Reading up on the things I missed and that dragon model is cool!

Angbor greatly appriciated the hospitality of the dwarves. Even greater was the privilege of seeing the magnificent architecture of Dralvik's halls. Indeed the cold and snow was a world apart from the wetlands and coastal plains of his home, but the mountains reminded him of the Blue Mountain foothills, the dwarves made great company, and the Bay of Forochel had great fishing. He had heard of the battles against the trolls of Ettenmoor, of which Elvea-Falasse was unaware of, along with the great alliance of dwarves out of the Iron Hills and Mirkwood. This information he gave to the relay men who delivered the message to Mithlond. Thus was the response.
To The Frostbeard Clan
Hello and well met again! Please excuse the delay in provision of the merchant fleet to the northern Blue Mountains. Aside from this please let us know if we may provide further assistance. Myself nor my councilors where aware of the presence of a troll realm in Ettenmoor. May I ask what the situation is there? As for the situation regarding Arthedain and our elven kin we are moving to hold a congress at the Etyangoldi capital with King Minyatur. As for there advance towards Numeriador I was informed that this was to incorporate people in this area that have expressed grieviances towards King Curufinwe under a common banner. I can't imagine them being a threat to you, both out of morals and character, or militarily. Though do inform us if you have further concerns regarding them. As for your alliance of dwarves I congratulate you on this. I will now depart for Hollin and the congress, and as our scouts continue to investigate the claims of wrongdoing by King Curufinwe I will share those results with you.
Respectfully yours,
Cirdan

OOC: Part II Momentarily

Post self-deleted by Elvea-Falasse.

To King Curufinwe
I have send an invitation to King Minyatur. I will write you again when we depart into your realm. I wanted to inform you that an envoy will be camping in the White Downs near the Shire and will be aiding King Minyatur in helping to ease the worries of the Hobbits. I await our meeting in Hollin so we may resolve this prediciment and come to the greatest friendship between our three nations.
Until we meet my kinsman,
Cirdan

To King Minytur and his people
My king I wish to invite you to the congress in Hollin with King Curufinwe and his people so we may resolve are differences. Though he did specify that he would only see you personally as the representative of Arthedain. Thus if you find that this endeavor is a risk to you safety know that you may select any elf from amongst our people as your representative, or if you want an armed guard you may choose any warrior you want, and as many as you deem fit for your safety up to anything that may seem like an army. You'll have to excuse that my kin seems brash and I don't want him thinking where on campaign. Also I will be sending rangers discreetly into his realm to gather any information King Curufinwe may withhold from me. We may rendezvous in your realm at a place of your choosing. Lastly, Magolhir will be encamping west of the Shire at the the White Downs to encourage the Hobbits. They seem to be the most panicked but if reassurance from an Elvea-Falasse delgation is needed else where do let me know. Also the Frostbeard Clan our allies of us and mean you no harm. Though your uniting of those that dislike King Curufinwe has startled them. I'd suggest opening up relations with them as soon as possible.
I await our fellowship to Hollin if you so choose,
Cirdan

"Gwilwilether, Captain of the Rangers you already know how sensitive and risky this mission is. However given the credibility of the accusations against our kinsman Curufinwe we need to be sure we have all the information. However we do not want to startle or enrage King Curufinwe."
"Indeed Cirdan."
Thus a plan was divised for several parties each of a handful of riders. One was to ride southeast along the coast and survey the locals for word on the lorship of Curufinwe, they where to stop at the Fords of Isen, another would go through the forested regions of central Eriador and also survey locals. They where to go to where the Swanfleet River forks and go into the foothills of the Grey Mountains to ascertain the validity of Arthedain claims of slavery and cruelty towards dwellers in the Mountain passes. Gwilwilether herself was part of this band, and she and several others where to go into the minor cities of King Curufinwe disguised as locals and get word of their elven kin.

Move the 850 troops in South Lindon and join up with the troops in Mithlond.

Kingdom of Arthedain:

"King of the elves,

Thank you for your news. We actually opened up relations with the dwarves of Clan Frostbeard, we will see where those lead us to. I agree that the general feedback was that the dwarves mean us no harm, but we still will be careful. We agreed to a Non Aggression pact, for now, but perhaps more can be done to further the relations between the two races.

As for the Etyangoldi Alliance,

Interesting that they requested me, personally. We had no direct contact with them, and we only know of King's Curufinwe traits from gossip; but where there is many gossip then there should be some truth as well. Do you fear that it will not be safe for me to attend this meeting? If so, then we would definitely appreciate an other pair of sharp eyes as guards. We have our own, but we both know that a human's eye is no match to an elvish one.

My delegation, with myself, are to march to meet with you, hopefully before we reach Hollin. I feel that joining the meeting together rather than separated would bear more weight."

The Variag Order:

The first answers from beyond the sea started to arrive at the Mouths of Anduin, as a few corsair ships docked in Harondor. They would bring mercenaries able to fight, and that's exactly what Ulwarth needed in these times. "So the retreat from Nurn does have a reason, now, and shouldn't be seen as weakness; we move to meet the Corsairs, in Harondor!"

" And while we're at it, let us contact again the Dru folk. Tell them that the orcs of Gorgoroth are planning to march on them, and say that you have certain sources as we just left Nurn because they amassed some serious forces there. Let us see how the wretched orcs fight on two fronts!"

The King had been waiting for a long time for news of the progress of the other dwarfish Kingdoms. Finally, two dwarves sauntered in, handed him each a message, and stood back. The first was from Queen Barazturg:

" King Alexius Comnenus of the Defender's Fjord,
The North is almost ours! Our allies and friends from the Clan Frostbeard just recently captured Angmar and, with their help, you should attack and capture Gundabad.

If they do not want to help you, I pledge my assistance to you. We will take Gundabad from the orcs and reunite our lands.

Will they prove to be a problem? Are they of interest, after we unite the North?"

"Tell Barazturg that we will be in touch with Dralvik to coordinate, and if he refuses, I will send a messenger to her. And tell her my opinion on this Orcish faction, the Broken Tooth Tribe, ruled by Snicklefritz, is the following: They do not seem interested in us, almost scared of us, but the are hostile to all attempts at relations. They could be a problem if they garner enough allies, so they may be of interest." The King finishes, and the green dwarf steps out. The other dwarf is holding something else, a sword with an orcish head on it. The message read that Dralvik had taken Angmar, so that makes sense. "Tell Dralvik that we wish to coordinate with him for an attack on Gundabad, if possible. We will meet him on the field of battle, and the land can be his." Now go. The dwarf steps out.
OOC:Sorry for taking so long to post

To King Minyatur
We shall go together. I will depart with my company to Michel Delving in the lands of the Hobbits and await you there, perhaps the direct presence of our elder elves will be of further happiness to the Hobbits. You shall be counted amongst Elvea-Falasse's party in the Alliance's lands; thus our elves shall be your loyal custodians as they are to all along the Lindon Coast. Though I'd do the same for King Curufinwe or both parties if we held the congress in Arthedain or Mithlond.
Let us hope friendship blossoms,
Respectfully,
Cirdan

To King Curufinwe
Well met! I wanted to update you on the goings of my party and King Minyatur. We are to rendezvous together in the land of the Hobbits and move together towards Hollin. I apologize for Elvea-Falasse and Arthedain comming to the congress together. While this was my original intend from the beginning King Minyatur was quite keen to the idea for symbolic reasons. I to am happy with this, however my quest for unity is with all three parties, not exclusively Arthedain. I apologize if you find this the be a slight. Another factor in this decision was as King Minyatur is without his usual councilors, we'd accompany him on the trip. I hope this also is alright, no ruler should go into another nation unaccompanied.
Warmly and respectfully yours,
Cirdan

Clan Frostbead:

Dralvik lay in his bed of fur, dreaming. Not until the moon light glow through an opening did he open her eyes. It was quiet and serene, a stunning reverse of the flavor of his dreams, so full of blood. For a few moments, he simply stared at the ceiling, trying to sort through his visions.

"How are you feeling?", a voice echoed in the tent like a whisper. Dralvik looked around, there was nothing but darkness.

"How are you?", the voice increased. Dralvik fixed his eyes in a shadow, that was aprouching thowards him. Suddenly, open his ice blue eyes looked at him an turning the head a little to the left.

"WHO ARE YOU?!", the shadow pounced on the dwarf.

Dralvik woke up in his bed of fur. The sun lighted up all the tent. He looked around and saw all the bowls with water and blood soaking bandages in salt. He touched his right side and winced.

"I am an emissary from The Woodland Enclave, faithful servant of Queen Barazturg", Dralvik over heard from outside the tent: "Dismiss..."

The door fabrics moved, and from among them appeared Frulvik, the Steward.

"How are you feeling?", Frulvik said to Dralvik.

Dalvik looked at him oddly, didn't say a word, and nodded to show he was okay.

"The soldier and your cousin Baldur were worry about you, my lord...", Frulvik said while turning this head a little to the left and gave a scroll to Dralvik.

The king looked at Frulvik in the eyes and said: "And what about you Frulvik?, Were you worried?"

Frulvik quickly looked away and looked at the bowls and said:"... of course, it's my job", he bowed and left the tent.

As Dralvik read the message, Baldur entered the tent.

"Baldur", Dralvik said, and he raised his head in a smile.

"After all this years... I don't think anyone can imagine you endding with the stroke of an orcish sword, that not very kingly if you ask me…", said Baldur with a smile. Both dwarves laughed.

"And orcish sword onto a dwarf is one thing, but according to this we have to hammer blow the orcs now", Dralvik said while showing the scroll to Baldur.

"Should I send word to King Alexius?", Baldur asked and said: "There is a dwarf of Defender's Fjord outside the tent saying that King Alexius will meet us in the field of battle..."

Dralvik frowned and moved his eyes as he was visualizing the map in his mind.

"Aye!, Do give word to Alexius and Barazturg, if he is ready we are also ready...prepare the soldiers to march to Gundabad", Dralvik touched his right side and winced. He paused for a moment and said: "And do give word to Nrulvim in the Blue Mountains to musterd the Iron-Breakers in Forochel, and order the garrison of Forochel to move to Emyn Uial”.

"Right away...", Baldur replied and face for the entrance, he retraced his steps and said: "I'll leave your journal here..." and left the tent.

OOC

For the Clan Frostbeard and -Wille-Harlia-, please be advised of the following:
1. Gundabad is the capitol of the orcs, and as such, they have a double garrison there (3000 orcs instead of 1500 orcs).

2. The next update is the update in which new solders appear at the capitol. Based on the rules, besides fighting the garrison, there's a 33% chance that you will also fight the current army (3000+1930), there's a 33% chance that you fight the current army + the reinforcements (3000+1930+1080) and there's a 33% chance that you fight the current army + half of the reinforcements (3000+1930+540).

3. If the bulk of the forces come from the Defender's Fjord, then there are 1320 soldiers. The 680 soldiers from Clan Frostbeard mean roughly 340 additional soldiers in the fight (as allies fight with 50% effectiveness), so the attacking side has around 1320+340=1660 soldiers without bonuses included.

4. Even if you end up fighting just the army in the province (without reinforcements), you'll fight around the equivalent forces of 1970 dwarves, a lot more than your approximate 1660.

----
TLDR: Right now, all attack options end up in defeat. Proceed at your own risk.

The next update will be on the 13th of July, which is today/tomorrow (depending on where in the world you are). I usually start working on the update at around 12pm GMT, however tomorrow I might start to work on the update slightly later as I have matters to attend to in RL and they will take the better half of the day.

You're still free to post until I write a message announcing that I am working on the RP.

Thanks for your understanding.

OOC: Clan Frostbeard Hold. We'll attack after we get reinforcements.
The King received word from scouts near Gundabad that the orcs are receiving tons of reinforcements. "This is terrible news", the King says. "We will halt the attack until we get our reinforcements, and quick! You, messenger, give this message to Dralvik!"

Dralvik, we have seen massive reinforcements coming into Gundabad! Hold off your attack until we receive reinforcements.

The messenger nods, then sprints out.

As the army was marching through the icy landscape of Angmar to the East. The wind started to blow to the West, making the advance very hard course.

"We need a couple more laborers, getting through the snow is proving difficult", a scout shouted while shoveling the snow.

"I agree", said Baldur while graving a shovel and joining the rest of the shovel-teams: "Come on now! We need more laborers here, our ally is counting on us or do you wanna miss all the fun, lads?".

"Sir, a rider is approaching!", a dwarf shouted.

"Friend or foe?", Baldur asked.

"It's hard to know, the wind is not helping", the dwarf replied.

"Allright then, defensive positions!", Baldur order.

The dwarves shoveling prepared themselves in order to defend the snow trenchs.

Baldur looked across the landscape with his eyes narrowed by the wind: "Eastern brother, what you see?", Baldur asked to the dwarf next to him.

"Lay down your weapons, that's a Defender's Fjord's rider!", Auxitius yelled. Baldur gave the order to lay down the weapons.

The rider aproached the Commander and gave him a scroll, Baldur read it: "Well that is unexpected, follow me... and you there order the
labourers to continue shovling don't let the snow pill up".

The rider, Baldur and Auxitius entered Dralvik's tent mounted in a sled, like the other tents.

"Dralvik, we have news form King Alexius and the front", Baldur said and gave Dralvik the message, whom read it.

"Very well, we will wait for the Iron-Breakers then... please approach to the fire and warm up, have stew and then go back to your King", Dralvik said to the rider.

Druwaith Folk (message 1 of 2) (secret message):
After the capture of Foothills by the dwarves of the Woodland Enclave, Garahir and his forces were still isolated in the forests of Fangorn. They did manage to send news to the Dru camped at Ithilien to march onwards and camp near the Woodland Enclave borders, in Dagorlad. Their combined armies would be enough to recapture Foothills from the dwarves, especially if the elves of the Etyangoldi Alliance come to their aid in the ensuing battle.
For the moment, before making any concrete battle plans, an alliance request was to be sent to the elves of Etyangoldi Alliance; after all, they were tipped off on the Dwarf attacks ...

Etyangoldi Alliance (message 1 of 2):
The valiant defense at Redhorn Gate, against the dwarves of Woodland Enclave, further fueled Curufinwe's rhetoric against the puny dwarves and their weak forces. With what is continuously mined in the mountains, in a short span of time most of Etyangoldi's forces will be equipped with top tier weapons and armor. The province is of strategic importance ...

The winds of change sweep Middle Earth ... dwarves fight against humans and elves, while orcs and trolls are allies of humans and elves ...

"Send a message to our allies, the elves of Elvea-Falasse;

King Cirdan of Lindon,

We still await to hear of your preparations for the triple meeting, between us, you and the humans of Arthedain. We ceased all hostilities with them, as to your request.

But dark news come from the north and from the east ... My fears are coming to materialize, friend.

The dwarves of after the mountains, of the woods of Mirkwood, attacked the Redhorn Gate, a part of our realm. Many brave soldiers fought defending the province against the invaders, and we successfully did so.

In the same time, the dwarves of the North attacked our friends province of Angmar, of the trolls of Trollshaw Realm.

You, my friend, are allied with these dwarves; their allies and friends attacked my provinces and they attacked my allies and friends!

Where do your loyalties lie in these dark times? With us, that respected your word and agreed to sheath our swords in front of the Kingdom of Arthedain? Or with your dwarf friends that try to chip off my lands and my friends lands?

Honestly I tell to you that I would come to your aid without hesitation if you ask that of us. But now we ask of you, will you help curb the pain and suffering of our people? And of our friends?"

Kingdom of Arthedain (message 1 of 2):
Messengers from the dwarf factions of the icy plateaus of Forochel finally met with the King. Apparently they were on the march trying to find the king, while the king was moving from province to province, either to calm the populations of The Shire, to attack Western Arthedain and even now, to attack Numeriador.

Meeting with the dwarf emissaries and listening to their requests, the King of Arthedain, Amlaith Minyatur, replied the following:
"The times are troublesome. We had some differences with the Elves of Etyangoldi Alliance that we nearly acted upon. Now, with the help of the Elves of Elvea-Falasse, which I understand that are your allies, we're forced to put these differences aside; like we're the troublemakers in the bunch.

We do not like that. We do not like being treated as a second hand commodity, just because we're not of the same 'noble' race of elves. Instead of accepting our plea and helping us, your elf allies continue to let the Etyangoldi Alliance commit atrocities upon atrocities. We will accept the idea of a non aggression pact with you and your folk, as we still do not know what the future has in store for the kingdom of Arthedain. We suspect that in the next forseeable future things will be more clear."

The Variag Order (message 1 of 2):
The Variag Order defeat in Upper Nurn was terrible for the forces of Ulwarth; the first defeat in a campaign with numerous conquers and wins. So resounding was the defeat that it scattered many of the mercenaries that applied for glory and riches under the banners of the Variag Order.

With the army left in disarray, the ruler Ulwarth had but one thing to do; to retreat from Nurn and organize the troops back to the capitol.

"Send an emissary of peace to the Broken Tooth Tribe. Tell them that we'd like to cease these unfortunate hostilities between our two realms."

Clan Frostbeard (message 1 of 3):

/////////////////////////////////
//// The battle of Angmar
/////////////////////////////////

The wind blew over the snowy plain, jostling the few trees. A man in rags and dust approached the dwarven army and gave his chieftain's terms for a final warning to Commander Baldur. He was refused and sent back to the trolls. It was to be battle, the battle of Angmar.

So the Dralvik had decreed his open defiance and his soldiers were at war with the trolls. The army was ready, Dralvik aproache to his army while mounting a full armored goat. He ridded across the front of the dwarven army, running his axe along all their spears.

At that moment, the fireballs have started to rained down from Angmar's fortress shaking the ground.

Dralvik looked down to the battlefield as it lights up in fire: “Many times the trolls have moved into territory that was not theirs to occupy! And many times the diplomatic approach had failed because, the trolls cannot be trust!. It had come to this, we cannot let them get away with the unpunished crime against our kin in Redhorn Gate, can't we?!"

The dwarf phalanx bashed their shields.

Dralvik rise his axe and continued: "Arise soldiers of Forochel! Fear not, because Mahal is wathcing us, and his hammer will fall upon the enemy!" -The dwarves roared and cheer -, "The abysm will have many souls by nightfall! They are keen, eager and foolish. We need only let them die before our axes! They have a slight advantage in numbers, but no dwarven-lives can be thrwon away today. We cannot afford such profligacy!..."

Baldur then said: "Soldiers of Emyn Uial! Sons of the Clan Forstbeard! My kin! Hear me out now! The enemy is well trained and dangerous our brave cavalry must wait to do their work until a breach is been open in the enemy defenses. I fought trolls before and now I thirst for revenge. Today we shall slake our thirst. Today is victory day!”, Baldur raised his war hammer in the air and said encouraging: “Let the hammer falls! Let the hammer falls!..."

The dwarves followed the chanting while starting to march toward the fortress.

“When the hammer falls! Back our enemy crawls!
When the hammer quakes! Trollish coward’s bones will break!
When the hammer cracks! And it beats their armies back!
When the hammer’s boom! Send the monsters to their doom!”

The two armies poured like dual streams through the snow, the dwarves lower their spears in readiness, the orcs and trolls lower their pikes in defense. When the armies met a clamor rang out, echoing into the hills. Blood, danced like powder. The high and low battle cries of the rival foes met in harmony as the armies dug into one another's flesh.

Between sunrise and sundown, the battle raged. A foe with an axe rained a series of strokes against Dralvik shield, but every one was deflected until at last the dwarf-king could best the orc warrior. A troll nearly pierced the shield with his first strike, but Dralvik knew how to give with the blow, throwing the troll off balance and leaving his open for Baldur's counterstrike. Finally, the Dwarves reached the fortress. Orc-archers prepared themselves and released their arrows and some goat-riders fall but continue to gallop on. For a long time they battled.

As they fought, circling the remaining troll forces, matching block for blow and blow for block, it became more a game, almost a dance, than a battle of blood. It dawned on Baldur that here at last he was fighting on the throne room.

It was not until the remaining troll missed his own step, striking too soon, throwing himself off balance and was strike down by the dwarves.
/////////////////////////////////
/////////////////////////////////

"Look sir, the maps!", Baldur said to Dralvik while pointing to the ground. The two rushed to picked them up.

"Finally! attach this orcish sword to the map an deliver it to King Cirdan, let him know that the trolls of Angmar were defeted, and the map is a proof of that the trolls were planning to harm Queen Barazturg and her kin", Dralvik said while heavely breathing. He cleared his throat and continued: "Do the same with this one, send it to Queen Barazturg, let her know that the Clan Frostbeard is at Angmar". Dralvik look down at his right side, he felt a warmish yet uncofortable sense, he was bleeding.

Baldur then asked: "Cousin! Are you alright?"

Dralvik removed his helmet to answer. As he did so, Dralvik saw through the slits of his helmet his own reflection. It was his own close-set eyes, white and blue hair. For a moment he saw his father, he heard someone call a name, similar to his father before he felt the cold stone.

Dralvik fell to the ground. Baldur took him, and gave an order to his soldier to attend the king.

As they took Dralvik out of the throne room, Baldur walked up to Dralvik's helmet and clean the mask, his eyes were glowing in tears.
He said to himself: "You may triumph in the field of battle for a day, but today there is no victory..."

Baldur then looked at a soldier in a grief look and said: "Liutenant, send word to King Alexius, do not mention King Dralvik's state... just let him know that the Frostbeards are in Angmar and we have taken the Fortress... and we will wait further orders in orther to move the armies. Take that troll's spear head and give it to the menssanger, order him to give it to the King... that would be all... I'll talk to the troops in a moment"

"Right away, my lord", the Liutenant responded while noddeing.

The Empire of Coldvar (message 1 of 2):
"Sir, we must move the soldiers to the north. If we want to claim more land."

Emperor Nikolai sits at his desk as four of his lieutenants surround him and argue about where he should send his troops.

"No, he should send them to the Capital and launch an attack on Minhiriath."

"Are you stupid we should launch an attack on Lebinin. We should not anger any nation. Better to stay safe."

Nikolai has been sitting through their arguments for 2 hours now.

"Silence, all of you. I already have a plan for my soldiers."

"You do sir. Can we hear it?"

Nikolai looks at the daring lieutenant. The lieutenant flinches under the Emperor's gaze.

"Leave. Back to your soldiers."

"Yes, sir." They all bowed and left.

"Fools all of them."

Nikolai begins to look back over reports. A strong breeze shakes the tent. He hears shouting. Nikolai looks up and dismisses it.

Then a soldier runs in. "Sir, there is a....a....."

"Spit it out man! What is there?" General Elkins walks in and pushes the soldier out of the way.

"Sir, Aldira is here."

Emperor Nikolai jumps to his feet, "I'm going to rip off her wings I swear this."

Nikolai exits the tent. General Elkins leads the Emperor towards the outside of the camp. The group walks to an open field where dozens of soldiers stare at the unusual site.

A large Dragon is standing in the middle of the field. It is flexing its wings. Making small gusts of winds in the process. The Dragon is Blue and Purple in color. It has very large wings, and many veins coursing through them.

General Elkins, and the soldier stop as the Emperor continues to walk toward the beast. He stops about a foot from it's chest, and waits.

The beast stop stretching it's wings and stares down at the Emperor. The dragon blows hot air at Nikolai.

That is the only hello you will get from me, Nikolai.

"Aldira, I told you to stay put in the Capital."

Only because my wing was injured. Now it is perfectly fine. See.
Aldira looks at her wing, and starts to flap it.

"I can see that, but I ordered you to stay. Never, did I call you out here."

She turns her head and lower it to bump Nikolai in the chest with her snout.

I only listen to you, when I want too. I received no new about your health, so I came to find out.

Emperor Nikolai looks at General Elkins, "Clear the area."

"Yes, sir."

The Emperor waits until the General, and soldiers are out of the area.

"You need to start listening to someone. You do whatever you want, and it usually gets you into trouble."

I resent that. I listen to you, sometimes. I care not for other people's orders. You are the only one I care about.

Nikolai rubs his head, "If you cared about my dang feelings you would start listening."

How is you practice coming along?

The Emperor freezes, he looks around.

"Let's go someplace else."

The Emperor leads Aldira towards the forests, he sits. Aldira slowly surrounds him with her body to block any outsiders view.

Nikolai opens up his hand. He whispers, and fire appears. It dances on his fingers as he rotates it.

You have improved. What else have you worked on?

He closes his fist, and the fire disappears. He looks at a small stone near Aldira's tail. He reaches for it. The stone starts to shake. It lifts about a foot off the ground, and zips straight into Nikolai's hand.

"Works well when I need a new writing utensil. I also have worked on making things invisible." Nikolai looks at the sun, "We must be getting back."

The Emperor stands and slowly makes his way back to the camp with Aldira in tow.

What are your next moves?

"Hmm? What do you mean?"

Before I left the Capital. I looked at the map, and where the troops were located. Interesting placement.

The Emperor stops, "How do you feel about going to war?"

Aldira shows her many teeth.

Ecstatic.

The Empire of Coldvar (message 2 of 2) (secret message):
Emperor Nikolai spoke with General Elkins for sometime.

They both agreed that moving the Soldiers from Belfalas, and Andrast to Anfalas would benefit them greatly.

Secret Orders were sent down the line.

Attack Nurn from both Gorgoroth and Upper Nurn

.

Etyangoldi Alliance: (message 2 of 2):

Elvea-Falasse (message 1 of 2):
Respectfully yours,
Cirdan

Kingdom of Arthedain (message 2 of 2):

The Variag Order (message 2 of 2):

The Defender's Fjord (message 1 of 2):
The King had been waiting for a long time for news of the progress of the other dwarfish Kingdoms. Finally, two dwarves sauntered in, handed him each a message, and stood back. The first was from Queen Barazturg: -snip message-

The dwarf steps out.

.

Elvea-Falasse (message 2 of 2):

Warmly and respectfully yours,
Cirdan

Clan Frostbeard (message 2 of 3):

The Defender's Fjord (message 2 of 2):

The King received word from scouts near Gundabad that the orcs are receiving tons of reinforcements. "This is terrible news", the King says. "We will halt the attack until we get our reinforcements, and quick! You, messenger, give this message to Dralvik!"
"Dralvik, we have seen massive reinforcements coming into Gundabad! Hold off your attack until we receive reinforcements."

The messenger nods, then sprints out.

Clan Frostbeard (message 3 of 3):

NPC talk and decisions of this update:
.

Druwaith Folk:

----
Nothing for the moment

.

Etyangoldi Alliance:

Curufinwe Fallenstar reached The Shire, and the meeting can start.

Curufinwe first greeted the Human King and after then greeted his elvish counterpart, Cirdan.

One could see it in the air that Curufinwe was more warm towards the Human King of Arthedain, as if something was not quite right.

In another part of the realm, the mysterious party that departed from Redhorn Gate was marching in secret through Western Arthedain. Its destination is still unclear, and their operation covert.

Read dispatch

OOC: I somehow didn't see the message from King Curufinwe asking me to denounce my alliance with the Frostbeard Clan. Sorry about this oversight and I will now implement this action into my roleplaying and review to see if I missed anything else.

OOC: The FAQ states:

If you attack someone AFTER officially declaring war on them you will increase this ranking by an extra 5 points, once, per ongoing war with said nation.

Does this mean you must declare war during one update, and then wait until the next update to attack? I assume this doesn't mean that I can simply write "Declare War" at the top of my post, underneath which I then write out my attack?

-----

Another question. The FAQ states these two things:

If you do nothing in the update (as in do not attack or be attacked) you will decrease this ranking by an extra 8 points.

and

HINT 1: If you surpass your maximum number of allowed provinces (Check point #6) you are at risk for the forces governing Middle Earth to ask for a "Crusade" to form against you. Thread carefully!

Therefore, if you are at your maximum number of provinces, it seems like you must either attack and risk a Crusade being called against you, or do nothing and incur a penalty to your Favoritism. Is this correct, or am I missing something?

OOC: To Wild Hunt,

Answer to your 1st question:

During the same update is fine. The other nation still has time to reply in the same update.

You can even say "DECLARE WAR" at the top of your message and then say your message. Saying that you "Declare war" is an instant notice to the receiver of your declaration, so they instantly see that you declared war. Not saying that you "declare war" and attack means that the other faction had absolutely no clue of your plans.

You can also declare war without attacking. You'll be in a constant tension with the other faction, but you can do that. For example, at one point the Woodland Realm declared war on Trollshaw Realm without actually bordering each other and without attacking one another. But still they have each other as enemies.

Please consider that when you (or the rest of the players) post your IC messages here, then the other players actually DO NOT KNOW your actions. Yes, we see what you write, but we assume that we don't know. Unless your message is directed to one of us, the rest of us have no clue of your action until after the update passes. **if you really want to have an action that the other players dont see you can telegram that IC message directly to me**

Example; you write to the Empire of Coldvar that you'll attack Druwaith Folk. The people of Druwaith Folk will see your message but they have to play like they have no clue about your attack - because only the player from the Empire of Coldvar knows of your plans.

But say that you write to the Empire of Coldvar that you'll attack Druwaith Folk and then you send a declaration of war to the Druwaith Folk. The Druwaith Folk are now the recipient of the declaration of war and they now KNOW that you plan to do something. They don't know if you plan to Attack Ithilien or Dagorlad, but they know that you are hostile to them. So even if you say to the Empire of Coldvar "I am going to attack them at Ithilien" and the person behind Druwaith Folk reads this message, they only know that you declared war on them and they must decide which province they want to secure.

Obviously, things can be roleplayed even more from this point. The Empire of Coldvar might be in league with the Druwaith Folk and they might tip them off. Or say you don't message anyone but you have only a conversation between your generals about attacking Druwaith Folk. Then no-one should know of your actions unless you, a priori, discussed with Druwaith Folk about having spies in one another's territories, and they end up discovering the act. But all of this falls outside the rules of the FAQ and this can be roleplayed as you want beyond the FAQ rules.

Does this make any sense? I'll try to explain it better if not. Please tell me.

Answer to your 2nd question

Yes. In the end, you get punished no matter what you do. Its a feature of the RP, life in Middle Earth is not fair!. If you grow too big, you get punished. If you remain stale, you get punished.

Moreover, the whole concept of Favouritism points is of diminishing returns, if you think about it. You only get 3 points if you win but you lose 8 if you do nothing. I'm happy that someone noticed (or hinted at) how evil things are! But its a pretty accurate model of how things are in reality; a superpower keeps its power as long as its expanding, and a faction that does not have a lot of influence (in our case, provinces) won't be treated with envy by others but will be treated in a demeaning manner by a superpower.

OOC: Thank you for the responses, Dispatch. The first question was answered more than sufficiently. It had seemed, previously, that the mechanic wouldn't work like that, but I can see now why it does.

Quite a funny thing, regarding the second question. I didn't expect that response! Very good, very good. Life isn't fair, and this is simply how the world is :)
